Obama's first responsibility is to the USA not Israel, most posters here are acting like it should be Israel. If Israel is armed to the teeth with all manner of weapons, why does it need the US especially as it also claims to have the best military in the world?

No "rational" leaders would behave as Ahmadinejad/Khameine are doing - openly,continually and consistently threatening the destruction of Israel ( even in front of the UN chief!!) and backing up the threats with lies, deceit and the "secret" development of a nuclear bomb. How naive are you? Mad men like Hitler also spouted vitreolic pap and idiots like Chamberlain "talked" to him and then waived a worthless "peace in our time" paper in glee - what followed ( WW2 and the Holocaust ) was a direct result of sane ( but very naive )people trying to "talk" with a mad man. Obama is also making the USA look very weak in the eyes of the rest of the world and that is exacerbating the gravity of this situation. Arab psyche ( and I include Persian ) does not respect weakness - it tramples on it. Know your enemy Obama and stop kowtowing to them. So this president wants a nuclear free world doesn't want to do anything to stop another country joining the nuclear club. The only military offensive Obama likes to boast about is the killing of Bin Laden and he likes to sell himself as a real gutsy president for giving the SEALS green light. Forget Israel Obama is harming American interests through his weakness.

Iran's society will probably the first one in the Middle East to emerge out of the Islamist movement, simply because they lived and suffered under it longer than any other society -- having started it themselves in the Eighties. Should this happen, what would be wrong if Iran emerged as a pro-western regional power in the Gulf... and if only to keep the Arab states in check? Sadly, a military attack against Iran at the moment will slow down the transformation of their society, because if attacked, they will, of course, close ranks with their mullahs. So attacking Iran can be unproductive in the middle and long run, as it would deprive us of an important ally in the fight against Islamism. Neither is NOT attacking Iran an option, if they are really building nuclear bombs and close to their goal. If the mullahs can get the bomb, this will significantly slow down the transformation there and not attacking would be just as counterproductive. So the world is damned if it attacks Iran, and it is damned if it doesn't attack Iran. We don't know what's the best course of action, because we don't know what will be faster: an internal regime change, or them completing their nuclear bombs program.
