1. Oppenheimer Inhumane
EGGM ,   Petah Tikva, Israel   (09.06.12)
I guess many already noticed this and I'm not saying anything new, but it needs to be said anyway. According to Stalin, when one person dies it's a tragedy, but when a million die it's a statistic. This seems to be precisely the logic that Oppenheimer and his friends are following—that kicking out 100,000 people from their homes is homehow not such a big deal. I suggest a different path: kick Oppenheimer out of his home. He will say it's a tragedy, so suggest also kicking out 100,000 people who think like him. I wonder if he'd agree. He obviously won't, and hopefully people will see his disgusting hypocricy.
2. Talking to this guy is like throwing pea at the wall.
Miron ,   USA   (09.06.12)
They are dangerous, violent, and will not stop at crime, be it petty, blackmail, or any other methods. These people are at war with Israel and my nation. Right now, when they have all the motivation in the world to be peacefull. Why does press associated with Israel allows virtulent Anti - Semite propaganda, glorifying pogrom?
3. Failed Logic
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (09.06.12)
B"H Sorry Oppenheimer, Land for Peace concessions ALWAYS produce terror and more terror, not peace, as Peace Now claims. Historically peace is achieved by winning the war, not by losing it.
4. Not linked at all!!
Avinoam ,   Ashkelon   (09.06.12)
Next tentative of Oppenheimer would be: "motivation to end warm summer period outweighs price of settler evacuation"
5. i disagree with oppemheimer and peace now
qwerty ,   jerusalem   (09.06.12)
I support Jewish life in ALL areas of Israel including Judea and Samaria. I disagree with Peace Now.
6. Interesting how the Left creates agreements without Arabs...
gedaliah   (09.06.12)
Interesting how the Left creates agreements without Arabs input. The Left Forces their views not only on Jews but Arabs as well. They claim that "Settlement Blocks" will be part of a final status agreement going to Israel while "Issolated" settlemnts evacuated. Have they asked the PLO or Hamas what they think? They have but ignore their answer because it doen't fit in the framework of what they already decided. The PLO and Hamas, bit in their charters, DO NOT RECOGNIZE ISRAEL...not in Efrat, Not in Beitar, NOt in Tel Aviv and not in Eilat... As long as the Arabs reject Israel's right to exist and the Left ignores their stance, the state of Israel and its settlements will continue to grow.
7. Evacuation vs peace
Amram ,   Toronto, Canada   (09.06.12)
I would agree with this article if there were any proof that evacuating (so called) settlers leads to peace. But that is not the case. History proves the opposite.
8. How does he feel about Civil Wat
Joe Sombrero ,   USA   (09.06.12)
How does Peace Now feel about Civil War? That is exactly what's going to happen in my opinion if his vision happens in my Opinion. Why is this in my opinion Spy still not in Jail still.
9. Permanent total end to Israeli retreat is the real solution.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.06.12)
It is impossible to have a rational debate with the likes of Peace Now. They have been infallibly wrong about every position they've held. Every single Israeli retreat is an absolute disaster. ] Israel's Sinai retreat was a disaster. Late Egyptian President Sadat personally admitted Israel got screwed. Israel's South Lebanon retreat was a disaster and lead to all our Lebanon wars and our current dangers from Lebanon. Israel's Gaza retreat was a disaster and lead to all our Gaza Wars and our current dangers from Gaza. The truth is that ending Israeli retreat totally and permanently is the real solution.
10. not everything is reversible
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (09.06.12)
When Oppenheimer can raise the dead and grow back limbs, he should revisit his article. In the meantime we'll just mourn the dead and wounded from Oppenheimer's "peace" fantasy that has given us the First and Second Oslo wars, Cast Lead and Lebanon II, attacks from Sinai, and rockets from Gaza and Lebanon.
11. nothing in life is reversible !!
michael redbourn ,   Arad   (09.06.12)
12. They Are Residents, Not Settlers
emanon ,   USA   (09.06.12)
These were permanent homes, not tents. These people were Israelis living on Israeli land. These people had productive jobs, were working towards building a better community for themselves and supporting each other. Now, compare that to what's happening on the other side of Gaza and tell me who the aggressors.
13. #1
Jarda ,   Czech Republic   (09.06.12)
Do you know what happened to Arabs in 1948?
14. #13 sure do
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (09.06.12)
They ran away. Do you know what happened to the Sudeten Germans? I for one agree with Peace Now is part. Many things are reversible and it is desirable to reverse some of them. We could have real peace if we reversed the decision to allow illegal Jordanian colonists to remain on our lands. Now that would be truly peaceful and we have those wonderful Czechs as a perfect example of how to do it.
15. Peace Now is an enemy of Israel
Rachel ,   US   (09.06.12)
16. Peace Now
M.C.   (09.06.12)
Peace Now is a disasterous NGO and should not be interfering with the internal workings of the sovereign state of Israel. It causes nothing but trouble. The 2 state solution has born dead The whole of Israel belongs to the Jewish people and can't be carved up and given away. Arabs who want to live peacefully within the state with the Jews are are welcome to do so! Oppenheimer should get himself a 'real job!'
17. #13 yes, we do.
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (09.06.12)
In 1948, the British occupation forces withdrew from Israel, leaving their weapons and forts to the local Arab gangs that had been attacking Jews since 1920. Emboldened by their good fortune, the Arab gangs, together with professional armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Lebanon and Iraq invaded Israel with the declared goal to genocide the Jews. They succeeded in many places: Gush Etzion, Kfar Darom, Jerusalem but against unbelievable odds and through unimaginable heroism the Jews managed to survive the war. Like in any war, many Arab civilians fled the fighting. Most of these were either guilty of persecuting the Jews or Arabs who had only recently moved to Israel.
18. #13
David ,   Czech republic   (09.06.12)
Do you know what happened to Sudeten Germans (3 millions of them) in 1945?
19. Peace Now biggest enemy
Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (09.06.12)
This POS group sent me a letter to my home yesterday asking for support. They talked about how inhumane the Israelis are in their treatment of the Palis. How unfair it is that ISrael is stealing land and keeping Palis in an open-air prison. Then they stated how people thought George Zimmerman was Jewish. They said "Why wouldn't people ask? They see the atrocities perpetrated by Jews everyday in Israel. It's not hard to see how they would think he's Jewish." I was absolutely furious! I'm calling them today to bitch them out. The worst enemy Israel has are the leftist Jews outside of it. Their dream is to destroy Israel & force Jews to live in the diaspora forever until we are all assimilated into foreign society & have no Jewishness left.
20. #13. Jarda: "Benes decrees" - still in force
Tom W ,   USA   (09.06.12)
21. Peace ONLY via BALANCE, balance ONLY via SECURE BIG ISRAEL.
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (09.06.12)
22. So if everything is reversible
Jake ,   USA   (09.06.12)
Then can we send the Palestinians gov't back to Tunisia, cancel Oslo, and return the Palestinians to their homeland in Jordan. Can we have the billion dollars that Arafat's wife stole and split ti evenly among every palestinian.
23. The guy who invented the nuke wants to lecture us
Fred ,   France   (09.06.12)
24. This "conflict" has existed...
Guy ,   KC, USA   (09.06.12)
...since Muhammad signed his first aman treaty with the Jews of Ayla (Eilat) in the 630s CE, or at least when his successors began garrisoning dozens of Arab tribes from the Hijaz and Yemen in Israel. Prior to that, the Banu Lakhm and Banu Judham were the only Arab tribes ranging near Israel's modern-day borders. The populations have swung among Jews, Arabs, Franks, Turcoman, etc., but it would be naive to chalk up relations between Israelis and Arabs to a contemporary political issue, and ignore centuries of Arab-led subjugation and taxation against a majority Jewish population prior to the Crusades. (Could someone please send Oppenheimer a copy of Moshe Gil's "A History of Palestine: 634-1099," or the Cairo geniza, or even any Arab-written historical work from that era?)
25. Everything is reversible, expel "peace now" to gaza.
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (09.06.12)
26. Worked so well in Gaza and Lebanon
Danny   (09.06.12)
We have to rush to implement it in the West Bank and East Jerusalem right now.
27. If expropriating pal land is not reversible,....
Palestinian ,   Ramallah, OPT   (09.06.12)
Then surely future will be worse than past. Jewish cousins, don't stand in the face of historical wheel. Be wise and don't commit suicide. Get rid of Masada complex.
28. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance of 1 State
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (09.06.12)
...but not to worry, Palestine Israel will be much much better than Israel is today. Safer, more secure, more prosperous, and at peace with itself and the world, no small task.
29. Why Should Jews Move at all?
deborah lurya ,   irvine   (09.06.12)
Deaer Mr Oppenheimer, my question to you is this: Why concede 100,000 Jews, or for that matter, 100, or even 1? Why not make the arabs move. Juderein is unthinkable and immoral. No other government, no other human rights organization would tolerate it. No Mr Oppenheimer, not one single Jew should be forced to leave his own, based on his religion or cultural heritage.
30. Kach was banned for suggesting arabs move back to arab lands
BH ,   Iowa   (09.06.12)
Yet groups like "peace now" openly advocate forced removal of Jews from their homes. Jews did not rebuild Israel to be second class citizens. If Oppenheimer longs for the pogroms perhaps he'd be happier in Europe.... or back in Egypt.
