1. we know you wanted to get into politics for a long time now
zionist forever   (09.07.12)
Please Mr Ashkenazi keep out of matters that do not concern you ( your no longer Chief of Staff ). We know that you wanted to get into politics since the say you retired from the IDF, you even wanted the Knesset to waive the cool off period between getting out the military and getting into politics. Notice how all the men who used to have important jobs that are now speaking out against an Iran strike also have political ambitions once the cool off period is over. Meir Dagan, Gabbi Ashkenazi non of them have made any secret of their future political ambitions. If we are going to do it then it should be done before November to force Obama WHO IS COMMITTED TO ISRAEL'S SECURITY to get involved. What would all those Jewish voters and that nice man Mitt Romney have to say if all Obma did was sit back and make speeches whilst Iran fired missiles?
2. What about democracy, civilian authority over military, etc?
(09.07.12)
I think the civilian gov't knows better what to do than the military junta bigshots.
3. To #1
David ,   Israel   (09.07.12)
Ashkenazi was never a political man which is why he was quiet as Chief of Staff. He never involved himself with the media or made any effort to promote himself. this is evident by his move to work in the private sector both times - when he resigned in 2005 and today following his term as chief of staff. The man isn't a politician his a straight military man and one that was highly regarded and successful and still to this day is saying the same thing - do not involve politics with the military.

5. Ashkenazi is confirming what many people have begun to
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (09.07.12)
suspect that Israel's democracy is democracy in name only, and the reality is the Israeli Military call all the shots, from spending, to who has to serve.
6. #5 Good, then stay in London.

7. Sarah B spoken like a true Non Israeli
David ,   Israel   (09.07.12)
Gabbi Ashkenazi wasn't "retired" for any reason - he finished his term with an extra year that was giving to him by his good work as Chief of Staff. You have no idea what your talking about just like any other non Israeli that involves themselves with Israeli affairs. He was praised by Israeli public throughout his entire term as Chief of Staff and proved himself by successes of Cast Lead, removal of Syria's nuclear facilities, reshaping of IDF ground forces after Lebanon among many others.
8. #7 - it's an impostor. Sarah B would not write such nonsence
