1. 2.1% is needed for a stable population ..
michael redbourn ,   arad israel   (09.11.12)
Anything less than 2.2% means that the population is shrinking. Time to wake up people in N. Tel Aviv!
2. Can tiny Israel support 8 million? 10 million? 12 million?
Avi   (09.11.12)
With the unbelievable costs of housing and the water crisis compared to our small state, one must wonder just how big a population can Israel sustain. We don't want to end up like Egypt after all.
3. Congratulations !
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (09.11.12)
These numbers show the strength of the jewish nation and the ultimate success of the zionist idea.

5. #2: sustaining a population
david ,   new york   (09.11.12)
its going to get pretty crowded there, but it can be sustained: they are starting to deslinate water to solve that issue, economically, you could urbanize the whole place and fit 10 times that number. it is vital that they hold on to all of the west bank and golan because their gonna need it.

Vlad   (09.11.12)
There was once a friend of Herzl's who thought the idea of a Jewish state in Palestine an impossibility, because by 2000, the land would only be able to support 500,000 people.....
7. #1, you're wrong
Avi   (09.11.12)
This is population growth. A population that grows by 0.1% per year is still growing, not shrinking. You're confusing with another statistic. 1.8% is quite high for a developed nation. Most developed nations have between 0.3% to 1.1%. About 0.5% to 1.2% is a healthy growth for a developed state, depending on things like retirement age, the economy, and life expectancy.

preach for the Armageddon, all I can say is that if you consern about population increasing than encourage people to use condoms. that is surly the safest way around.
11. #1 Wrong
EGGM ,   Petah Tikva, Israel   (09.12.12)
For sustainability you need 2.2 children per woman, not a 2.2% population growth. In other words, for about 0% long-term population growth you need 2.2 children per woman (not taking into account increasing life expectancies and migration, which kind of complicate things). Israel has above 2.2 children per woman and positive migration, so we're not in any danger.
