1. what a useless talk Rabbi...
Oleg   (09.19.12)
you are back and forth...tiresome read
2. The example of Pichas has nothing to do with the film.......
Clear Thinking   (09.19.12)
it is a useless connection. In the first, people were killed in a righteous act because they (according to Torah Law) were sinners. Mohammed is not G-d, wasn't a prophet of G-d (the Creator NEVER would have said the things Mohammed said He said to him and are written in the Koran - ie) kill Jews or Ishael was to be sacrificed not Isaac.. etc)... whatever Mohammed said is BS from a psychotic jealous non-Jew. The whole idea of killing someone because he insulted this nut case is pure insanity. There is no connection to examples in Torah.
3. Good article and shows how zealousness should be directed
Nehama ,   Jerusalem   (09.19.12)
Thanks for good article showing how courts and not violent mobs need to take action. The Muslim riots show how insecure and violent their culture is.
4. two idiots don't make a normal...
ma nishma ,   modiin   (09.19.12)
Between the idiot that made the film and the idiots that riot, we don't see any sign of intelligence. In a case like this -1 + -1 = -3, since we Jews are stuck as the losers,
5. Pinchas
Mo ,   Jerusalem   (09.19.12)
The example of Pinchas was to teach us that unless one's intentions and thoughts are wholy and purely onlyL'shem Shamaim (sanctity of G-d) and with out any self serving motivations, zealotry is not encouraged or allowed by the Torah. There are very few who have achieved the level of a Pinchas, and they are few and far between. The proof you don't see someone on the level of R' Eliyashiv Zt"l or R' Ovadya Yosef, throwing stones at cars on Shabbat or other such acts of so called "Zealotry". And in our generation they perhaps could be considered as close to a Pinchas as one could hope to become.
6. Obscene film?
Paul ,   Vancouver   (09.19.12)
Rabbi, did you actually watch the film? The film is cheap, tawdry, has poor production values, but seems to capture who the desert demoniac actually was. Obscene? I don't think so. FYI - ob·scene/əbˈsēn/ Adjective: (of the portrayal or description of sexual matters) Offensive or disgusting by accepted standards of morality and decency. Offensive to moral principles; repugnant. As I said the film is not a good production but certainly captures who the man was. And if there is any obscenity it is only because historically the character of the man is obscene.
7. This is why this place is called Israel!
kuhl_blitz ,   doha/ chennai   (09.19.12)
Because of such people (author), Israel keeps light shinning on the world. Such a brilliant and a great article. For example, compare Israel with France. What did the French do to the riots in Middle East and Asia? They released a caricature which is going to further fuel the riots causing more innocent death! In short, French wants the world to be in chaos. Now, what did the Israeli do, or at least the author is trying to do? He is spreading knowledge! he is condemning both Film and riots - he is teaching us all! I believe if this article is beamed in a different channel wherein it can reach masses, esp in Middle East places, this will have a profound effect! Keep spreading peace through knowledge. This is what Israel actually stands for Great article.
8. Religion is obscene by definition.Islam more so:that's all!
tom ,   tel aviv   (09.20.12)
9. Brakman Points at Muslims: HaHaHa
Elad ,   Israel/Dallas   (09.20.12)
This is the guy who defend people who spit on children, insult and assault our femaile soldiers, will not serve in OUR military, and who treat women like cattle. Do you religious fanatoics not see that Muslim, Presbyterian, or Jew you are all alike? Those guys can quote verses too.
10. Film
Alex ,   Minneapolis, MN USA   (09.20.12)
I watched that film the other day and thought is was hilarious, idiotic but hilarious. Clearly made as a joke. No one in the right mind would take this film seriously. The point here freedom of expression right? I live in the USA a free county. Who ever does not like that film does not have to watch it. Why should we in USA care about offending some backward savages half way acros the globe? The mock Judaism, Christians constantly. The physically destroyed historical budda statues in afagnistan that predates islam as a whole. Why in the world should I care about their feelings?
