And very true.
4. thoughtful article-zionism as mindset not ideology
avramele   (09.21.12)
All Jews should take pride in their heretics and free thinkers as well as their rabbis and classical scholars. The overlap is interesting as well. The new Jew of a sophisticated zionism is the one who understands that we all swim in a large ocean of ideas, experiences and contradictions. This insight I learned at Sinai.
5. Secular Judaism
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (09.23.12)
In Israel Shabbos is the national day of rest, chagim are bank holidays commemorating national history, Tanach is a national ancient history book, the Holy Tongue is the language of the nation, kashrus is no problem etc. Even secular Israeli Jews live more Jewish lives than most afilliated Jews in the Diaspora.
6. #5 re kashrut
Paqid Yirmeyahu ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (09.23.12)
Outside of bases and on boats, kashrut is a problem in Tzah"l, even for dati leumi (not mehadrin). It would be nice if seculars would know enough about kashrut to accomodate datim in such cases. Guess that's too much to ask of brethren~
