31. #17 The whole point is that Iran....
Robert ,   Australia   (09.29.12)
....has never said they wish to physically "wipe out" Israel. This is an interpretation based on Jewish paranoia and a notion spread by Israel to perpetuate the world's sympathy for them. Iranians aren't stupid. Don't you know they are well aware that if they initiate an attack on Israel they will be wiped out. Therefore it will not happen. If Israel initiates an attack on Iran it's a different ball game. It would mean the end for Israel.
32. I got sick from this subject.I ran is not building
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/ Toronto   (09.29.12)
and not planning to build nuclear bomb. They strategy is to be able to build one quick in case they are attacked .....period. this story is clear to all dummies.Keep threatening Iran in daily basis from Israel and the west won't scare them or retract them from this object. I fully agree with the expert view ,this will only speed up their effort to build a bomb .
33. PSEUDO-INTELLECTUAL TOPSY-TURVY "logic"! Not YES or NO, HOW!
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (09.29.12)
34. Cynic # 29
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (09.29.12)
That was perfect. It couldn't have been said better.
35. The usual yellow voices of cowardice spouting off again
Noodles ,   Coney Island   (09.29.12)
Like with the Japanese, heap nuclear destruction on them, and they'll lose the will for anything, except surrender....guaranteed.
36. # 32 You fully agree with the expert....
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (09.29.12)
view. That is an example of why you should not be taken seriously.
37. Welcome to Mutually Assured Destruction
James ,   Boston, MA   (09.29.12)
No country has launched an attack with a nuclear weapon since 1945 because it would annihilate the country that launched it. If Iran did develop a nuclear weapon, it could not fire it against Israel because (a) Israel's nuclear retaliation into Teheran (pop 12 million) (and possibly other locations), and (b) every religion in the world would be infuriated by the resulting 10,000 years of radiation in a most sacred location (Jerusalem). The real threat from Iran's nuclear technology is the proliferation of devices into the hands of non-national organizations, and that proliferation threatens practically every world capital. Israel, please calm down; Rest of the World, please take notice.
38. Israel knows this already, real goal is more settlements
Steven Benassi ,   Silver Bay   (09.29.12)
...and an Iran war to justify more settlements.
39. #20 (incognito)
Ehud   (09.29.12)
Well, Mr. Incognito, I was not on Mars, but actually much closer to Iraq than you. That may be why I know that Iraq had no WMD when the US invaded it in 2003. Such an invasion would have never occurred - same goes for the first Gulf war - if the reactor wouldn't have been destroyed , because by 1990 Iraq would have already had the bomb and could have deterred the US from military measures as North Korea does today. But you are not totally wrong: Of course it takes more than one action to achieve important goals, and military measures are not the only ones. My point is, taking no action will get you nowhere. To claim destroying Iran's nuclear facilities means helping them to get the bomb is just using Orwellian rhetoric to justify a Chamberlain-like lack of decisiveness. This path will cost Iran's neighbors first, then Europe and the US. Imagine the butcher of Damascus was now in the final stages of assembling a nuclear bomb. Would Turkey and the West even consider a no fly zone? Interestingly, nothing those experts predicted for Iran after a potential attack actually happened in Syria after the Israeli attack.
40. Retreat! Retreat! Retreat! That's the logic of this thinking
Harry Wright ,   UK   (09.29.12)
The bottom line - they'll get the bomb with or without an airstrike. You gotta love these "experts" for the comedy show they put on.
41. #21 ROBERT, I beg your pardon
BEN JABO ()MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (09.29.12)
I hadn't realzied that you were fluent in Farso All you have to do is GOOGLE "IRAN'S THREATS AGAINST ISRAEL," OR "ahMADinejad's threats" Since when were you concerned about Israel?
42. #22 I got sick of FAKERS PRETENDING
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (09.29.12)
to be Sarah B Iran has been hdiing what she's doing, refusing to have their sites inspected. If they'e not hiding something, why are they going through to efforts to hide what they're doing?
43. #29 CYNIC: BRILLIANTLY PUT
DA RAP ARTISTE ,   SAFED OPERAHOUSE   (09.29.12)
44. Insanity or nonsense?
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (09.29.12)
The premise is that Israel should not try to prevent a nuclear attack that would destroy Israel, because that mightl result in an increased effort to produce nuclear weapons with which to destroy Israel. Assuming those who make this argument are sane, this is utter nonsense.
45. #42 Ben Jabo same here
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (09.29.12)
but if you are going to apply the criteria about hiding what they are doing and refusing to have their sites inspected. Then you have to apply the same criteria to israel. Or you have taken sides, and that doesn't bode well if you are trying to negotiate with a regime such as Iran to disclose what they are up to, and to then proceed in having nuclear power in a completely verifiable way. You cannot have one rule for say Israel and then expect the Iranians to abide by another rule.
46. Iran is already developing ballistic missiles-that is it!
Jouko ,   Finland   (09.29.12)
Iran is already getting ready for sending nukes far away - decision to make nukes is just a small step after the missiles are functioning. It is all the same how the decision is made - after the attack or without Israeli attack. Iran is anyway ready for it!
47. #45 sarah imposter
solomon ,   bklyn   (09.29.12)
Israel has never threatened to use the bomb, does not support terrorists throughout the world, does not kill its own people, does not have fradulent elections, etc. You cannot have rules for say Israel and then expect the Iranians to abide by no rules.
48. So if we don't strike, Iran builds their nuke much slower???
Yaniv ,   Israel   (09.29.12)
49. # 39
inconito   (09.29.12)
sorry i am more likely to belive, Martin Dempsey, James cartwright recently retired N°2 of US army, john abizaid, Admiral fallon, antony zinni tree formers head of CENTCOM and, many other militarys, and expert : like James mattis current head of CENTCOM. they all said the same thing, air attack will not prevent the emergence of an Iran nuclear. only full scale invasion, and occupation can do it ! or others experts who know what they are talking about like: Meir Dagan, Robert Gates, Mike Mullen, Collin Powell, Michael Hayden, and the list go one than you ! where ever you are !
50. Strikes could send Iran back to Stone Age.
Chaim ,   Israel   (09.29.12)
Anyone want to bet these New York Times "experts" are Obama regime supporters? Their claims are ludicrous. Israel is capable of striking Iran in a manner that would send it back to the Stone Age. If that is what it takes to stop the Mad Mullahs from building nukes: so be it.
51. #49 inconito
solomon ,   bklyn   (09.29.12)
It could be that an attack on Iran will not dissuade them. But your original contention that the Israeli strike was not the cause of Iran giving up on the bomb is wrong. The experts you quote are talking about Iran, not Iraq.
52. #32, Sarah B...I pity you...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (09.29.12)
53. The NYT "experts" are Jew haters...so what ?
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (09.29.12)
These MORONS will always support Irans nuclear Holocaust project...
54. Ben Jabo at No.41
Sarah B ,   U.S.A./Israel   (09.29.12)
Well, we should admit that it's true what Robert said. Iran actually never said that Israel should be 'wiped of the map'. The correct wording is: 'the Zionist regime has to come to an end'. Ahmadinejad wants the 'occupation' of the ersatz "Palestinians" to stop, he does not want to kill all Israelis, let alone Jews. Believing this is paranoid.
55. Ben Jabo at No.42
Sarah B ,   U.S.A./Israel   (09.29.12)
Thank you for defending me, these imposters make me sick as well. You are one of the few intelligent writers here, although not as eloquent as I am.
56. Fake Sarah B at No.45
Sarah B ,   U.S.A./Israel   (09.29.12)
No, my dear, the same criteria does not apply to Israel, because Israel has not signed the "Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons". Therefore we must not show anything to nobody. However, it is a fact that Iran only denies access to military facilities, because they fear the IAEA gives the information to the US and Israel. Would not be very clever with a war in the air, would it? We remember the IAEA giving the names of the Iranian nuclear scientists to the US and Israel, that ended in their assassination. The IAEA is corrupt to the bone, we know it and the Iranians know it.
57. #51 oops - should read...
solomon ,   bklyn   (09.30.12)
"about Iraq, not Iran".
58. FAKE SARAH B.
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (09.30.12)
I have an idea, let's prove you're a Jewess, the real Sarah B. would have the answer at her fingertips and forward it in English/Ivrit Mhat was your Bas Mitzvah Parsha? This question has alway been found to be a great rat catcher
59. not experts. mind games thats all. as if iran not doing all
ralph   (09.30.12)
