4. Holy See agreement with Israel
Helen ,   USA   (10.01.12)
What is the Holy See? What is the financial agreement. I'd love to know what that agreement is too. The end times prophesies include Rome. Hmm. Here is the definition of Holy See: The Holy See (Latin: Sancta Sedes, Italian: Santa Sede) is the episcopal jurisdiction of the Catholic Church in Rome. The primacy of Rome makes its bishop the WORLWIDE leader of the church, commonly known as the Pope. Since Rome is the preeminent episcopal see of the Church, it contains the central government of the church, including various agencies essential to administration. Diplomatically, the Holy See acts and speaks for the whole Roman Catholic Church. It is also recognized by other subjects of international law as a sovereign entity, headed by the Pope, with which diplomatic relations can be maintained."[1][2] Often incorrectly referred to as "the Vatican", the Holy See is not the same entity as the Vatican City State, which came into existence only in 1929; the Holy See, the episcopal see of Rome, dates back to early Christian times. Ambassadors are officially accredited not to the Vatican City State but to "the Holy See", and papal representatives to states and international organizations are recognized as representing the Holy See, not the Vatican City State. Though all episcopal sees may be considered "holy", the expression "the Holy See" (without further specification) is normally used in international relations (and in the canon law of the Roman Catholic Church)[3] to refer to the See of Rome viewed as the central government of the Roman Catholic Church. (Please know that this is not true to the WORLD church according to the one church under the messiah, Jesus Christ. - it simply is not and nor do the churches worldwide follow or are under this Rome rule church. This is a title with misrepresentation. They are large but the "christian church" is not boxed into a neat little package as this Rome church would promote. The real church is spiritual not politcal. And this is not of this world...Rome Church or any for that matter.
5. thanx
uri weil ,   Israel   (10.01.12)
Thank you Helen. Your comment was very helpfull and informative to me.
6. As an Israeli who had a long experience
Shoshana   (10.01.12)
living among protestants, Orthodox Christians and Catholics, I know so well why Helen makes this clear cut difference. Simply because hundreds of millions of Christians do not belong to the Holy See, to Vatican or the Pope. Should I also add, they will never belong to any of them in Rome.
7. It would have been interesting, proper
(10.01.12)
and awfully nice if the article reported on what the Pope had to say on such an important diplomatic occasion.
8. #2 u r misquoting the Protocols of the Elders of Zion!
(10.01.12)
I mean really if you are going to be so very anti-semitic and that old fashioned sort of way...well at least go do your homework and get it all down right!
9. Helen get that Protestant Chip off ur shoulder...
(10.01.12)
its downright unChristian and non-ecumenical the way you speak.
10. Not Just Prayers, But Active Mediation
Tim Upham ,   Tum Tum, WA   (10.01.12)
The Pope and the Vatican can really play an active in role in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. Pope Benedict can call upon Hamas to recognize the State of Israel, for the Vatican has. As well as helping to set up the boundaries between Israel and an independent Palestine. I am sure His Holiness can draw from a lot of Biblical passages to deal with this modern challenge.
11. Who is the pope fooling ?
Gabe ,   Canada   (10.02.12)
G_d only is Holy.
12. #1 keren, #4 helen
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.03.12)
The financial agreement dealt with the fact that although Synagogues and Churches were both taxed at the ‘ecumenical’ (lower) rate, Jewish communal buildings other than synagogues were taxed at that same low rate, while Church buildings were taxed at a much higher rate. The agreement was to tax Church buildings at the same rate as the Churches themselves.
13. #2 gentile - your post is one-sided...
solomon ,   bklyn   (10.03.12)
at best. Christians are persecuted in most arab countries, as well as Gaza and under the PA. Christians and Muslims practice their religion freely in Israel (this does not include childish riots due to ‘insults’). Non-Jews are forced to support the government of Israel through taxes...as in any other country that collects taxes. Some rabbis do preach anti-christian dogma. Their number is miniscule compared to the “teachers” of Islam that preach anti-semitism. What they tell their people to do to Jews is far worse than what anti-christian rabbis say to their followers. You live in a dark fairy tale, assisted by your own prejudice. Welcome to it. But not welcome to post lies and deceit stemming from half truths.
