1. PAL try every gimmick but not direct talks
AFRIED ,   FLORIDA, USA   (10.02.12)
With the Muslim brotherhood supporting Hamas the PAL authority are scared to compromise. Hence they will not compromise for peace. The PAL authority needs a bold brave new leader like Sadat. This leadership is definitely NOT brave and too old and corrupt.
2. US SHOULD withdraw $$ support for non-existant
A ,   Belgium   (10.02.12)
Europe can't afford to fill any monetary gaps, leaving the "palestinians" to overthrow their corrupt leaders and choose the path of peace with Israel, *GASP* stop taking handouts, and learn to be self-sufficient. Personally, I don't see either happening, only that the "palestinians" will continue to rot in their own self-pity.
3. "Typical American behavior"?!
Logic ,   Israel   (10.02.12)
Wow, that's quite appreciative after the US helped prop up the PA for so many years with billions in aid, pressure on Israel, and inviting Arafat over more often than anyone else.
4. If the European Union ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.02.12)
... wants to support ersatz "Palestinians" at the United Nations, let them. Clearly, they haven't thought this through. Support for the ersatz "Palestinians" comes replete with beggar's bowls and a threatening demand for financial support. Copious financial support. I wonder how well that will sit with Greece .... Spain .... Portugal .... Romania .... Hungary .... and the rest of the broke European Union members. The ersatz "Palestinians" are a bottomless pit into which the international community (many of them broke) keep throwing money. Do keep in mind that the ersatz "Palestinians" are not content with merely political support. They demand -- no, they threaten violence -- if a great deal of money does not change hands. Good luck, European Union. You WILL need it.
5. When it comes to money
big bad Jew ,   United States   (10.02.12)
the pals will be on their own. No one can afford to support a non people whose sole claim is terror. The pals are an expensive joke on the EU. and the US. ( the US will soon end all funding to all arab nations.) Better to support Israel and join the anti terror brigade than to finance the muslim on muslim massacres.
6. It will all depend
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (10.02.12)
whether politicians within the EU see any political capitol of supporting either Israel or the Palestinians right to self determination. Netanyahu demands for a war against Iran on Israel's behalf by the western democracies may well mean, that western politicians support Palestinian self determination as a way of selling a war against Iran. This is the extremely dangerous game that Netanyahu has been playing, demanding that things happen on Israel's terms usually means that people demand something in payment. Couple that with increasing attacks on Christian places of worship in Israel and an Israeli establishment not exactly bothering to find those attacking them and Netanyahu is cooking up a perfect storm.
7. I see the usual talkbackers are as delusional as ever
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (10.02.12)
75% of everything that Israel produces ends up in Europe. Overnight the EU could, if it wanted, collapse Israel's economy, already suffering because of the economic downturn in Europe. Israel needs the EU more than the EU neeeds Israel.
8. something funny going on
alexandralongisland ,   sands point ny   (10.02.12)
sometimes i wonder if obama purposely leaks these issues so as to show americans "help aipac has us hostage, look at the cruel things i am forced to do to deny the pali's their freedom" same way as he slyly made it be known "israel is trying to force me into invading iran" by making the public statements against another war juxtaposed against bibi's hyterical demands also public. think israel think. remember he challengede romney publically "if mitt intends to start another war i think he should say so" if you dont think he's going to paint romney as the "israel first" candidate in the debates your not listening closely enough, mark my words.
9. To: No. 7
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.02.12)
Thirty-three percent of Israel's exports go to the European Union. That's a far cry from your ludicrous claim of seventy-five percent, don't you agree? The European Union could not, therefore, impact Israel's economy except marginally, and then only if (i) the European Union would agree to some sort of boycott and (ii) the European Union could find a new source for the goods it imports from Israel at the same very favorable cost. The next time you use the bathroom, please allow your "facts" to flush, instead of posting them on YNet. The stench is gruesome.
10. #7. and...
A ,   Belgium   (10.02.12)
If anything is collapsing, it is the European economy. Witness Spain, Greece, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, etc. 60 businesses are folding EVERY DAY in Belgium. Meanwhile, Israel showed a growth rate of 3.2% in the first half of 2012...something any nation would be proud to have these days...and a 6% increase in exports during July and August. So actually Israel really isn't that dependent on Europe, and there is nothing delusional about that.
11. It is only the "israeli-firster" in the US government
American Firster   (10.02.12)
that is against the Palestine state. EU has the moral backbone to recognize Palestine. Americans are become more aware of the jewish attacks on churches and mosques.
12. #7 I See the Usual....
ltrail ,   United States   (10.10.12)
Sorry, Sarah B. I guess my take on this, is on a far higher level. The State of Israel should never rely upon the EU. Never! There is the G-d of Israel. He is Who they must rely upon; forever.
