1. glad there's an investigation at least
ilanadiamant.org ,   USA   (10.06.12)
At least Berkeley is taking this seriously.
2. Its about time. Go get 'em!
Edward ,   New York USA   (10.06.12)
May this be the start of a series of lawsuits against a plethora of universities where campus antisemitism, racist incitement, and civil rights violations of the Jewish population have been clothed by the leftists as free speech.
3. Jews should not go to Berkley and others
David ,   USA   (10.06.12)
Jewishi students should go to Colleges that are not full of radical liberal losers like Berkley is known for. Simple solution.
4. Better to ban moslim students and to
jason white ,   afula,israel   (10.06.12)
deport all moslims. Even those born in the U.S. Or Kenya.
5. Don't Shoot the Messenger
Golden Dome ,   Washington, USA   (10.07.12)
When is protesting policies that are racist and deny others their human rights "anti-Israel". These protests should make pro-Israel supporters glad. Unless your a racist and criminal.
6. To: No. 5
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.07.12)
Since when does Israel deny anyone their human rights? You've been drinking the Kool-Aid. But why are university campuses so selective? Why such anti-Israel exclusivity? Where are the protests against what is happening in Syria? Or in the Congo? Or the resurgent Taliban in Afghanistan that is once again preventing girls from going to school (that should certainly tweak a university, but thus far, it has not). What about the treatment of women in the Moslem and Arab world? What about female circumcision in these same societies? No, none of the foregoing is particularly appealing to the average American idiot. Makes them somewhat hypocritical, wouldn't you say? Also very difficult to understand without calling into question whether it has nothing to do with activism and EVERYTHING to do with anti-Semitism. Well, well, well.
7. Number 1. Federal Govt
Akiva ,   NYC   (10.07.12)
The article seems to say the federal govt is taking the allegations seriously. Berkeley has tended not to worry about it. We hear a lot of criticism of UK and EU universities, but the USA has its own loony Left as well.
8. GOOD! Northeastern university just silently fired its revere
hippocrates ,   earth   (10.07.12)
revered imam because the guy was so anti semitic and tutored several convicted home grown terrorists. There are a lot of hamas frontmen wearing the wig of muslim group president out there. Berkely is not even the tip of the iceberg
9. The campus population - then and now
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (10.07.12)
When I was in college many years ago, this was not a problem. What's changed is the growing presence of Arab and Muslim students on campus. This in part reflects the growing population of Muslims in the US (now roughly 1%) but also the radical increase in student visas to students from Arab and Muslim countries. The other critical factor is the multi-culti ethos supported by this generation's campus administrators, who grew up in the 1960s and 1970s and are quite tolerant of anti-Western and anti-Israel sentiment.
10. To: No. 1
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.07.12)
Berkeley's not conducting the investigation; the United States government is doing it. You need to work on your reading comprehension; you're not very skilled.
11. To: Hippocrates at No. 8
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.07.12)
Exactly! And one of those front men was none other than Barack Hussein Obama, who was president of Columbia University's Islamic Students Association. I'm hard-pressed to understand how he went from that to being a self-proclaimed "Christian ....." He's never spoken openly about being Moslem -- although his grandmother made a much-publicized haj a number of years ago. If he did in fact convert to Christianity, perhaps he's afraid -- some imam somewhere is sure to view an apostate as worthy of a death sentence and issue a fatwa against the president of the United States. Now THAT would be interesting ....
12. UC Berkeley, the home of many Israelis.
Michael ,   California, USA   (10.07.12)
They came here and received excellent education, learned how to live and function in the modern world, absorbed ideas and carried it back to Israel with them. Many became professors, researchers, leaders in academic, economic and political spheres. They are continuing to make Israel successful despite the negative legacy of religion. UC Berkeley, along with the other campuses of the University of California, has contributed to Israel immensely over a very long time. This will continue and the critics of the UC system will accomplish nothing.
13. #12 And your point?
Cynthia ,   USA   (10.07.12)
UC Berkeley is an excellent state funded univerisity on public property. The school has a Code of Conduct and a state mandate to provide a learning environment free of harassment to students. Not doing this could impact the school's accreditation. UC Berkeley must take these complaints as well as negative publicity very seriously. The fact that Israelis attend UC Berkeley and benefit from this education is irrelevant.
14. They staged anti-Israel protests? ,...

16. To: No. 12
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.08.12)
I believe you are confusing the University of California / Berkeley with Stanford University. The UC system has never been terribly friendly to students from Israel, with UC Berkeley leading the pack. On the other hand, both Stanford University and the University of Southern California have been extremely eager to accept Israeli students, and have also been very generous in terms of scholarships and research grants. Why do you persist in plucking "facts" from your posterior orifice?
17. To: Cynthia at No. 13
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.08.12)
University of California at Berkeley is one of the single largest university recipients of federal funding -- especially in terms of Defense Department funding (as if THAT isn't the height of hypocrisy!). Berkeley had better clean up its act, or risk losing it all -- in which event they would have to close their doors as the State of California is very nearly broke.
18. #12 Your whole post is written in the ENGLISH PAST TENSE.
Alan ,   SA   (10.07.12)
19. Sara B.Is it really true that BHO was President of Columbia
Alan ,   SA   (10.08.12)
Students Islamic Association? If its true then I am shocked! I didn't know that.... Id not be surprised ,however!
20. #13 Cynthia, The point is that Israelis love UC Berkeley.
Michael ,   California, USA   (10.08.12)
And UC Berkeley loves Israelis, as well as other students. A lot of things that are happening at UC are because of high moral standards, which coincide with what "must" be done for accreditation. Are you up to to such standards upheld on both private and public lands? Are these points too complex for you?.
21. Most U's in California are frequented by Israelis.
Michael ,   California, USA   (10.08.12)
As you say, Stanford is, and so is U.C. at Berkeley, at L. A., and at the other campuses. USC is very friendly also, as is Caltech. California is a great state and that's an indisputable fact.
22. this will become MORE common under Obama
ej ,   omaha   (10.10.12)
The radical progressive left has infiltrated academia, hollywood, and the Democratic party. They are in cahoots with Radical leftists and see Jews as a common enemy. Under Obama, a progressive leftist who attended an anti-jewish hate fest for 20 years at Jeremiah Wrights' Church, will further enable the radical left to entrench itself in American culture. BEWARE!
