31. Egypt's honor is a lie
Ilan   (10.07.12)
Why is honor vauled more than truth? If the US hadn't insisted to spare the Third army Egypt would have been routed and humiliated more in 73 than in 67
32. Right there, #13
Cameron ,   USA   (10.07.12)
#16 reflects the all too typical Israeli-style regard & gratitude toward the US despite the decades of backing them on every level. The sort of posture that earned them 4 years of Obama & his approach to the ME.
33. winning
mike ,   los angeles usa   (10.07.12)
In the Arab World losing thousands of square miles of land is "Winning". Yeah, we meant to do that!
34. Kissinger
dave ,   Jerusalem   (10.07.12)
Their real 'Hero' should be Henry Kissinger......Israel had the entire Egyptian Third army surrounded and could have finished them off. They were starving and trapped. Kissinger forced Israel to let them go back home. That simple. Once again Muslims trying to brainwash their public into changing history!
35. 13 and 12
Mickey ,   Sydey, Australia   (10.07.12)
Israel didn't occupy Ismailia or suez because she didn't want to take responsibility for the population there. It was the egyptians who had there supply cut off after Israel completely surrounded their 3rd army. At that time, the Israeli army was only100km from Cairo. The US forced her to stop the war and allow supplies to reach the Egyptian army. They could have got the Sinai back if they entered peace negotiations with Israel without any war.
36. 13
Chaim ,   Haifa Israel   (10.07.12)
I was there. Israeli forces were never cut off from supply. The Egyptian scud missiles did shoot down some Israeli planes. America resupplied Israel with planes later in the war. We surrounded the Egyptians and they were cut off from supply.
37. I'm really scared....
Vlad   (10.07.12)
To imagine just what Arabs would consider a "defeat".
38. Victory??
Ralph ,   Caesarea   (10.07.12)
100 km from Cairo!!!
39. #4 Gee and his super dooper Jewsih memory...
Marco ,   Spain   (10.07.12)
What does your memory tell you about the humiliation of your mighty IDF at the hands of a few thousand lightly armed Hezbollah fighters? Gone are the days where Israel can defeat 3 armies in few hours. Gone are the days when Israel could invade Lebanon with the musical band of the Israeli army. The world is welcoming a new era where Israel is debating its own existence... Wake Gee and start preparing for your exodus from Palestine...
40. #11 Avi
Marco ,   Spain   (10.07.12)
The winds of change are blowing fast Avi. With Iran and Hezbollah in the wings, you should start looking for a friendly country for shelter. Prepare for exodus...
41. to #3 & #7 the 100 km-from-Cairo trap
observer ,   Egypt   (10.07.12)
Major General Avraham Adan who led his unit across the canal said that when the israeli tried in the 73 war to surround the 3rd army after the ceasefire and moved to occupy south of the Bitter Lakes the Egyptians repulsed them and the commander was killed then the forces moved northward to find itself entrapped by the egyptian 7th infantry division and the israeli forces had nothing to do but escaping westward to find itself after minutes inside a mine field . Israeli were the ones cutted off. Adan said;"before the cease fire any israeli trial to cut suez-cairo roads the the full two egyptian divisions were moving towrds us and thus our forces was forced to withdraw after massive losses and they didn't ever never were able to step on the road before the ceasefire and after the ceasefire they moved towards the roads because they knew that the egyptian forces (two divisions in the area beside the 1st field army) will not move because the Egyptians accepted the ceasefire, that is what they called israeli violation of the ceasefire. But, the israelis were forced to back to the cease fire lines and entrap themselves.
42. #37 thanks G-d,

since 73 he stopped being sacred.
43. # 19 the only reason AHH something called
ben   (10.07.12)
peace. Yeah the only reason... You forgot to mention the 2 billion a year the USA gives Egypt. YOU know like the US has been paying of Egypt to make peace with Israel for about 30 years now.
44. Such a victory where they he has to ask
SD Charger ,   San Diego   (10.07.12)
Israel's permission prior to sending Egyptian Troops into the Sinai, so Israel won't take em out. Right, Morsel?
45. What a victory ?
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (10.07.12)
Exactly the same victory the nazi germans won at Stalingrad. Gobbels also alleged this a victory as more soviet troops were killed than germans.Without the US's betray Israel should occupy Cairo, and half of Egypt.
46. Israel won the biggest military victory in the world history
olim hadashim ,   tel aviv/israel   (10.07.12)
and also suffered the biggest defeat politically. The delivery of the Sinai back to Egypt.
47. their life-time fault
observer ,   Egypt   (10.07.12)
The Israelis had built large 18 meter (59 foot) high sand walls with a 60 degree slope and reinforced with concrete at the water line. Had it not been directly on water line and just few meters off, water power bubs would not have been able to drive sand off the wall barrier down to the Canal water.
48. It's the propaganda method all over again
barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (10.07.12)
Say you were victorious to gain the loyalty and pride of the people. And if Mubarak is a hero, then why is he in prison - for killing a mere couple of hundred of his own people who were going to kill him or others?
49. Egypt satellites in Sinai 1973
observer ,   Egypt   (10.07.12)
scores of intelligence agents infiltrated Sinai before 1973, recruited Bedouins and sent satellite images about Israel's army routine in Sinai and IN Israel. It was a big devastating surprise for Israel that the ordinary Egypt army soldiers knew a lot (written and oral) about the IDF weaknesses.

observer, your knowledge of military history is impressive. What is your source(s)? egyptian comic books? egyptian videos? egyptian video games? hashish?
51. Why is it our ally the US always pressures us?
Israeli Citizen ,   Haifa   (10.07.12)
Why does our ally the US always stop us when we are about to win? Why does the US favor our enemies? Maybe they wouldn't if the US's only source of OIL was.......Israel?
52. when Sadat was asked "did you win war?
masry ,   Cairo ,egypt   (10.07.12)
Sadat say look at what is happening inside Israel and you will know the answer Israel must thank and pray for their american god who gave a cheating code
53. let them claim victory
JL   (10.07.12)
i was at the chinese farm battle and watched huge cat catapillars bulldoze thousands and thousands of dead eygptians into mass graves...and that was just an area a few square kilometers...victory...haha...you were stupid then and you are stupid now
54. Nasser said
Raphael ,   Netanya   (10.07.12)
"I light my cigarette in Cairo and finish it in Tel Aviv". Up to now, nobody saw the egyptian flag on Allenby street.
55. to the dazzled daze # 50
observer ,   Egypt   (10.07.12)
In 1973, over 2.800 Israeli soldiers had been killed, at least 7,500 had been wounded, and some 500 had become POWs. If the US had experienced equivalent losses in the Vietnam war, it would have suffered 200,000 American dead- a figure four times the actual number.
56. Victory?
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.07.12)
Right. Encircling the Egyptian Third Army and cutting their supply lines, leaving them to die of thirst in the desert (or they would have, if we weren't such humanitarians and gave them food and water); crossing the Canal with nothing between the Canal and Cairo to stop Israel .... nearly 100,000 dead Egyptian soldiers (the real numbers; forget what Egypt says) ..... that's a real victory. I wish Egypt many such victories in the future. Of course, next time around, the first thing that goes is the Aswan Dam. That should dampen (pardon the pun) their enthusiasm ......
57. to #56, in 73, Israel's troops were entrapped
observer ,   Egypt   (10.07.12)
1. suez-cairo road was under the egyptians' control as there were full two divisions 16th mechanized and 4th armored repulsed any israeli forces tried to get closer to the road as the israeli commander who fought the war say. 2. the israeli forces were the forces entrapped as the rear of israeli wedge was under control of the egyptians as Sharon failed for three times to occupy Missouri, which dominated the heights north of the Great Bitter Lake, was important for keeping the yard and bridge out of Egyptian artillery range. Thus the israeli supply lines was under control of the egyptian armed forces. 3. the egyptian 3rd army didn't ever never got entrapped as there were egyptian forces controlling southern of the bitter lakes and was able to repulse the israeli for many times and thus the 3rd army entrapped the israeli not the israeli entrapped the egyptians . 4. Two egyptian divisions were assigned to repulse the israeli beside the egyptian 1st field army was behind them and didn't joined the battles yet. 5. It was estimated by Israelis that the 3rd army was 30000 man with 300 tanks and 300 artillery pieces. Sharon division lost most of its power and only less than 100 remained for him and Magen division was only 80 tanks. Adan was the one assigned for the main missions and engaged the main battles which is a fact while Sharon and Magen divisions weren't primary forces which means Adan's losses must be greater than Sharon and Magen divisions , and again less then 100 remained for sharon out of his division which is supposed to be 280 tanks , and less than 80 tanks remained for Magen out of his division which is supposed to be 380 tanks. so is it resonable that those israeli tanks less than 200 tanks were not able to surround an army with 300 tanks beside the 1st field army west of these israeli forces beside those two divisions 16th and 4th which was enntrapping the Israelis.
58. To: No. 57
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (10.07.12)
Come on! Get a grip. You can paint it any way you want, the fact remains that Israel was able to mobilize on the holiest day of the Jewish calendar, and threw Egypt and Syria back over their borders, with huge casualties. Now, pay close attention: 1. The only reason that the Suez Canal even operates is because the peace treaty concluded between Israel and Egypt in 1979 eliminated the need for war risk insurance on vessels transiting the Canal. Everything that Morsi has done and said indicates that he is on the verge of abrogating the 1979 Treaty. So, apart from the fact that the terms and conditions of the Treaty call for the return of the Sinai to Israel in the event of unilateral abrogation of the Treaty by Egypt -- I can assure you that Egypt will lose whatever is left of Suez Canal traffic. 2. The very first casualty of any renewed outbreak of hostilities between Israel and Egypt will be the Aswan Dam. Make no mistake about that. 3. Egypt will not be able to hold onto the Sinai. You simply will not be able to withstand a full-out Israeli onslaught. Moreover, Morsi has been very busy purging his military because he is afraid of a military coup (with good reason). He's jeopardizing Egypt's ability to conduct military campaigns in order to secure his dictatorship. Not wise. 4. Do you really want to challenge Israel? Do you think that would be a wise move? Think again. How long do you think it would take Egypt to recover from the loss of the Aswan Dam? Truth be told -- Egypt may never recover. Egypt has already lost 90% of its tourism revenues; and well over half of its Canal revenues. War risk insurance is very, very expensive. Vessels -- those that aren't too big to transit the Canal; that's the growing trend in terms of vessel size -- will eschew the Canal in favor of going around the Cape. Much cheaper -- marine diesel fuel is inexpensive, these days -- and much safer in terms of piracy. So you tack on a week or two voyage time. Still cheaper and safer than transiting the Canal. 5. So, in sum: Egypt's top military leaders are quietly being purged; Egypt's economy is in the toilet; Israel can destroy Egypt -- perhaps permanently -- with very little effort. Egypt lost 100,000 men in 1973. Next time, it will be five times that much.
