Other than the fact elections have been announced and Olmert doesn't yet have a party to run there is the fact that right now his name is mud with the Israeli public. Kadima might want him back but until they hold fresh primaries and oust Mofaz then he can't lead them. Sit it out this time round try convince Kadima ( for some reason they do want him back ) or even form his own party and he has a chance of getting into the Knesset but PM no way. Things are already looking bleak enough for Bibi right now with the very real prospect of a Labor, Lapid, Meretz & Kadima coalition who are going to ruin the economy as the socialists traditionally do very well and will give away everything ( Jerusalem & Golan included ) for a toilet paper treaty. If we end up with that kind of government the last thing the Knesset needs is more dirt and corruption in the form of a man who got in on a Sharon sympathy vote not his own qualities.

Olmert is an honest, charismatic and wise leader who knows how to connect with the common citizen. He was an excellent mayor and the best prime minister Israel ever had. As a lawyer for a well known real estate development company, I have worked closely with Mr. Olmert while he was mayor of Jerusalem as well as prime minister. Mr. Olmert excelled in what he was paid to do and maintained one of the highest levels of collaboration between business and government that I have ever seen in my 20 year tenure with my firm. Frankly, things have never been quite the same in my sector since bogus charges of corruption were brought against him. Mr. Olmert is a true patriot and I would vote for him again in a heartbeat.
