4. Working Poor
Yisrael Livman ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (10.17.12)
Alongside concerns about those who are living in poverty, this report shows that a high proportion of working Israelis are not managing to make ends meet, and many are living life on the edge, where even a small setback can trigger a financial crisis. The government should be helping the working poor by providing better support for those in crisis and discouraging easy credit, so that hard-working people can live in financial security.
5. Its the rip-off mentality of providers and market
Susya Bar Dror ,   Israel   (10.17.12)
Food and non-food are 10-50 % more expensive then in the country of origin or Europe. Food usually costs more than in the EU or USA, about 10-20%. Non-food >20% more (but with inacceptable customer service). Children have insufficient food in quality and quantity: how does the government expect them to be strong soldiers fighting for the country which does not provide them with food? Voters, think first before giving your vote to those who are stealing from you.
6. it's holiday time

Teddy ,   Jerusalem ,Israel   (10.17.12)
Many "exist" but do not enjoy life because of the crazy cost of living .
9. #7 that fact is still true.
Avi   (10.17.12)
It doesn't change the other fact that costs of living are higher here, and other factors are taken into account in poverty such as the way of life of Haredim, Beduin, and Arabs.
10. As long as I can see the contractor that I
jason white ,   afula, israel   (10.17.12)
work for is enjoying the good life, I am happy. So what if the contractor steals from my minimum wage job,but drives an expensive SUV. And all the family has nice new autos. And those trips around the world using money that was stolen from the workers. It is not a real crime,is it? Because if was illegal, then the contractors would be tried in a criminal court, not the toothless labor court. They would do prison time and not pay a fine and back wages for the last few years of employment. Too bad there is no knesset to protect the rights of the workers and not the exploiters!
11. Not to worry, Sarah B will come to the rescue...lol
Avi ,   Israel   (10.17.12)
12. # 10 Jason White: its up to you
Susya Bar Dror ,   Israel   (10.17.12)
you vote for a new government that does not waste financial funds and will grab your employer by his cojones. Again, you are not only an employee, but also a voter.

15. @5
(10.18.12)
I agree with you, except I think non-food is usually 100% up to 400% more. The whole country is a giant rip off.
16. 31% is consistent with the Arab and Haredi population
Alex   (10.18.12)
If we only counted non-Haredi and non-Arab Israelis, Israel would score less than any European country...
17. #11 Avi
Sarah B ,   U.S.A./Israel   (10.18.12)
You think its a joke Avi? If and when I become Prime Minister, I assure you that fighting poverty will be my priority after eliminating Iran and Hezbollah...
18. Sprotje , 14 . WRONG
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (10.18.12)
Not two decennia ago but in 2004 . They were already on the way to recover . And , as Germany is in need for workforce , those countries can procure it .
19. #16 Does it matter
Mark   (10.18.12)
Poverty of any culture is still poverty. Its not a competition for which country has the lowest, its about our governments doing their best to help its people. More money spent on detroying lives than saving lives. Private contractors making millions while most people are just making it every month.
20. #17
Greg   (10.18.12)
lol.. Your priorities shows that you will make the perfect prime minister
21. Sarah B
Avi ,   Israel   (10.18.12)
Let me get this straight.... If and when you become Prime Minister (may God forbid), you will tackle the problem of poverty after eliminating Hezbollah and Iran??? I guess we have to learn to live with poverty, because you are nothing but a day dreaming idiot...
22. 18 - They were already on the way to recover ,...
split ,   US   (10.18.12)
The process started with the creation of EU in '93, at that time former E. Germany as a part of Germany joined EU - In 2004 former Soviet block was still in a process of "privatisation" read, former and new "elites" stealing away what was left by commies, with 20-25 % unemployment rate and in a depth up to their ears ,...
23. That's almost 1/3 of the country.
Daniel ,   Israel   (10.20.12)
How can Israel claim to be a 1st world country while almost 1/3 of its citizens live in poverty?
24. 22 , sprotje . Again , as always , wrong
(10.20.12)
The EU was created in 1992 , but European countries were already united in the EEC . East Germany had a population from a 17 million . This means less than 10 % of the then EEC . Secondly they were at least skilled people , technicians in all fields of industry who needed only to adapt themselve a little bit to the more up to date techniques . Here the Israeli Arabs are less skilled , their ancestral traditions , the ultra orthodox not at all for most of them . We are not talking about the former USSR . That's something different
25. Israel was never a haven for Jews.
Rich ,   Toronto. Canada   (10.21.12)
It was created so that a few wealthy elite and their friends could profit from the continuous conflict between Jews and Arabs. Jews need to get out of Israel, asap!
