I wish all of these selfish SOBs were made to issue a get right in the courtroom when divorcing or have the police arrest them right there. No walking away to issue the get "later", issue it right then or go to jail.

No doubt he was pressured in to marriage and in denial of his sexual orientation. There are thousands of men in this situation. will not give a get. The husband will not do his obligation in Torah law to give his wife a get and can go out and have sex with anyone he likes as he doesn't care about breaking any Torah laws. The wife is not free to marry anyone else, to give the children a new father, to be supported by a new husband, her life becomes miserable. Jail should be the first option for a get refusal, then the husband and the wife can divorce and go on to lead their own lives.

Women should demand them each time and become very our about it until the situation changes--men should also lose all their compensation. Money is what they want and if it costs them their half of the allotment to delay granting a get, then after say 30 days if the get is not signed the allotment is denied and the get is automatic.

Why should it take ten years? If he was actively gay prior to their marriage and contiued to be gay, the Beth Din should be able to annul the marriage without a Get. Why wait ten years to jail him for contempt of court? Once the Beth Din orders him to give her a Get and he refuses he should have been jailed. Here in the Diaspora we can't jail them, but in Israel the Beth Din has that power.

In most Western societies the Judge can grant the divorce without the husband's agreement. In Jewish Law both sides have to agree to be married and both sides have to agree to a divorce. Why is that undemocratic?

very simple: you don't jail a man just because he refuses to divorce !!! Jewish laws or not ! The 2 parts must work to find an agreement even if takes 20 years ! In a modern country and society, you don't jail people to put pressure on them. This is done in countries like China !!!
