The President of the United States is a busy man who is presented with a miryad of problems - and he has to set priorities - his priority was to try (unsuccessfully) to mend fences with the ISlamic world so as to facilitate withdrawing troops from Iraq and Afghanistan so as to concentrate resourcesin the USA on domestic issues - that is legitimate. Our genius Prime- Minister and his internationally accepted debonaire foreign minister, well known for his tactful, diplomatic approach to foreign affairs had the simple goal of doing a Shamir - which meant not doing anything at all. Abbas - who has lost any legitimacy he might have had is in no position to make the compromises necesary for peace and had the choice of joining Hammas in armed struggle or going down the path of peace - he chose to do neither and played a game with Netanyahu called lets get the other party blamed for the lack of progress. So why on earth should the leader of the free world want peace more than we or the Palestinians do - We and they are not interested in progress so why should he invest his time? On top of which he could be guaranteed that our great leaders would cause him embarassment. In addition, with our Ayatollahs castign scorn on American Jewry every time they open their mouths, they have done an excellent job of creating a situation of alienation, and Obama realized that not kow-towing to our disfunctioning goverment was not goign to cause him any trouble domestically.

They were handing out candy on the streets in many Arab countries on 9/11/2001 and in subsequent days following the attack. Those moneys are not gifts. Israel contributes a lot technologically to the USA in certain sensitive areas. Including UAVS. Also in the intelligence sector Israeli contribution is vey important. So what the USA gives is not for free. This is something USA doesn't publishes, because the picture the want to show is their magnanimity. Which is fine for me, but this is a double way traffic. And finally the difference with other countries that receive military help is that no american soldier in official service in the US army has fought in any Israeli war. No americans killed like in Irak, or Afganistan or in Somalia etc etc

I'm not exactly a fan of Obama either, but it's petty and stupid to make this is an issue. GW Bush never visited Israel until the last year of his last term in office and he made sure to visit the Palestinjian Authority as well. He did, however, visit dozens of Muslim/Arab countries though in both terms of office. No Democrats suggested that this was evidence of an anti-Israel bias on W's part.

Also, wouldn't Europeans find it odd if the US president visited Albania and Moldova and held state dinners for their leaders, but refused to visit Germany and the Netherlands?
