Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (11.04.12)
for the jewish state for free.
2. Pay rises
Philip ,   Afula, Israel   (11.04.12)
The true face of Israeli politics, MKs scum bags one and all if they take it.
3. Communist Russia did the same.
Shalom Ber   (11.04.12)
They take away from yeshivas and from citizens and divide the money among themselves.
4. What a chutzpa!!
Sammy ,   Israel   (11.04.12)
It seems like we pay too much taxes. I can't believe they are taking 1,000 NIS. who ever gets 1,000 NIS wage increase in any other job??? Right now with the way things are they should not be getting rises. Makes me sick.
5. You, the people of Israel are the real suckers
Al   (11.04.12)
for you put up with this crap. Throw them out all of them..Reform the political process and do away with the small parties. There must be political reform. You have no real representation, thus they do what they want. You are the suckers, 1) For taking it 2) for allowing it to continue. You have no one to blame but yourselves. Who needs the Bolshevik Revolution when you have home grown hebrew speaking Bolshiviks screwing you over day in day out. Yeah...baby you have come a long way from Trotsky...(lev Bronshtein)
6. #2 socialism
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (11.04.12)
In capitalism you only get a pay raise when you earn it or deserve it. Linking salaries to give automatic pay raises is a socialist invention, that in Israel was proposed, pushed through the knesset and legislated by the extreme Left. This idea is not innocent: it is a way of buying political support from the masses of the public sector.
7. Represent the people
Miche Norman ,   Hod Hasharon   (11.04.12)
Arie Deri almost got it right - there are two Israels - those that generate the income that the country needs to survive and those that don't. Which could be translated as the private sector and the public sector. This is not to deny that many front line workers in the public sector do not do vital important work that is much appreciated. What is pronounced in recent years - is that the employees in the private sector have seen their salaries cut, frozen or disappear. This is not only a result of the government policies -it is largely the result of the anti-business atmosphere generated by the anti-social protest movement. Surely the only equitable move would be for government salaries to be linked to the movement in the average wage in the private sector.
8. balance
john ,   toronto   (11.04.12)
Without balancing the books no one should get a pay raise. That is a bad example to the rest of society. No politician should get such a raise.
9. COSTS BESIDES SALARIES
DAVID ,   JUDEA   (11.04.12)
Although this article mentions the increase in salaries, which is absolutly in line with our self serving politicians. It does not talk about all the other perks like cars, phones and so on which cost us the tax payer a ton of money every month. On top of that many of these same politicians, after having served and helped the powerfull money elite, get nice paying board member jobs. The knesset chair dance is a very lucrative business oppertunity, which serves the interests off those who trully hold the power in our little ghetto here.
10. Public officials
Marlon Gobitz ,   Modiin, Israel   (11.04.12)
I think it's fair that people who are in the government earn a decent salary. Netanyahu, with all his responsibility only earns 46000 shekels monthly - most CEOs in many private companies make at least double. Don't understand me wrong: i wish i would get a pay rise too. But we should pay politicians well - they represent the country and most of them want to do what's best for their country. BTW If you check the salary of Obama (135000 NIS per month), or Angela Merkel : 90.000 NIS...
11. ANOTHER raise? They just got a 3% increase......
Frier ,   in Israel   (11.04.12)
while the rest of us got nothing but higher bills, less at the pump and market.... and utilities go up and up. NO WONDER everyone wants to be a POLITICIAN. DISGUSTING!
12. and for 6 months now they will do nothing but campaign......
Absolutely ,   Disgusting   (11.04.12)
until the elections. After that (yawn) maybe a few days a week. What a LIFE.
13. Meanwhile...
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (11.04.12)
There is no money for kupat cholim. Healthy baby centres are being closed down. Schools are having their budgets cut and teachers are being fired. There is no money for the development townships (NOT the settlements, the development towns). There is no money for defense in the south being hit by rockets daily. Hospitals are having their budget and their staff cut. I could continue this list for at least another 20 items...just today the subsidy on bread is being cut. People - get out there and VOTE!!!
14. Ahhh, now I get it
Yehuda ,   Haifa   (11.04.12)
So, this is why VAT was raised back on 1 Sept. It wasn't for budget balancing, it was so they can give themselves a raise!
15. Disgusting
(11.04.12)
16. looks,smells....
michel ,   ashkelon   (11.04.12)

17. Shut down migrant shops people who work-give yourselves more
miki ,   tampa   (11.04.12)
18. # Maybe you right
Yaara ,   Israel   (11.04.12)
the salary might be lower then in another countries. But to take a pay rise now when everything goes up is like slap on a face of all decent people who try to make decent living. Everyday is harder and harder.
19. disgusting
sue ,   jerusalem   (11.04.12)
20. Taxes go up and politicians get pay raise - duh!
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (11.04.12)
21. Let's see if any have the integrity to refuse it.
David ,   Hartford USA   (11.04.12)
I doubt it. The pain of the average Israeli is neither felt nor considered by these 'elected' politicians. Time for Israel to get a real constitution and a true representative government and to do away with the hodgepodge of special interests that hinder real progress.
22. What do you want?
nibor ,   israel   (11.04.12)
The cost of living has risen. And it's also getting harder to keep us poor schmucks poor, so of course, they all deserve a raise.
