1. The assassination of rabin was simply "mida keneged mida"
Shalom Ber   (11.04.12)
(measure for measure) but many years too late. Except for the 16 Israelis murdered because of rabin, how many Israelis have been killed or maimed because of his Oslo foolishness?
2. compromise
john ,   toronto   (11.04.12)
When it comes to deciding borders compromise is the best way forward. Uprooting Jewish communities is not good. With the land that is free, both sides should decide the way forward.
3. at #1 - No. It was "simply" murder.
Rube Vogel ,   Jerusalem   (11.04.12)
I didn't like the man. His policies were wrong. But there are legitimate ways to fight wrong-headed leadership and then there is murder. Mida Kinegged Mida is for Gd to decide - for us we have "Al Tirzach".
4. it's surprising that
E. G. Marsch ,   Nahariya, Israel   (11.04.12)
Segal doesn't mention Rabin's last speech to the Knesset, a month before he was assassinated, in which he explicitly stated that in his vision, Israel would retain considerable parts of Judea and Samaria in any final deal with the Palestinians, and the Palestinian entity would not be a state. Easily available by searching "Rabin's last speech to the Knesset."
5. #1 enough
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (11.04.12)
Enough with the Leftist crap: Rabin was killed like any unpopular politician gets killed, by someone with a gun. There are only two possibilities who that someone was: the lone assassin Amir or the "conspiracy". As time goes by, the conspiracy theory gains credence: just recently the coroner who investigated Rabin's corpse was forcibly retired because it turns out he was a psychotic ghoul who gave false testimony innumerable times.
6. All politicians in this country are liars and parasites.....
Arale ,   Jerusalem   (11.04.12)
I am SO SICK OF THE STUPIDITY AND SELFISHNESS IN THIS COUNTRIES POLITICS
7. Peres had rabin murdered because he wouldn't go far enough
Haim ,   Israel   (11.04.12)
Everybody knows this is what happened.
8. Murdered by a Jew for Jewish "ideals" nothing Israeli
miki ,   tampa   (11.04.12)
9. some military kibutzniks like barak
mordechai   (11.04.12)
I have a cousin in the army, a good soldier who had come out years ago with pride saying he was a leftist. I find such labels stupid. Labels are meaningless. But he like ehud barak come from the kibutz have this ideology. When you balance this against what happens whenyou let them accumulate space for a state, you get rockets, stabbings, tractor terror, homicide bombings against which barak in particular did almost nothing for wh ich he was tossed out on his ass in 2000. He did virtually nothing against west bank terror. Palestinains behave like the syrians as indeed that is who they are- syrians, egyptians, yemenese, sudanese. The 35,000 that have been killed in syria, multiply by 10 and you get what the arabs will do to the jews if they ever gain the advantage. The arabs are not europeans- they will not behave reasonably with the jews unless the jews are tzimmis once again. The best thing that israel could do is to massively reject barak and boot him right out of the knesset. Whatever he did before, since at least 1999, he has been a disaster for israel, an absolute disaster and his predictions are lousy like assad would go in weeks!
10. #7 haim
solomon ,   bklyn   (11.04.12)
"everybody knows" is a sign of your wishful thinking, not reality.
11. #1 shalom
solomon ,   bklyn   (11.04.12)
By using the term "simply" you go down the horrid road that negated the "it can't happen here [Israel]" attitude. You are condoning murder. You are wrong.
12. #3 rube
solomon ,   bklyn   (11.04.12)
Agreed. Kol hakavod. (and it does not say much of we Jews when one has to use the term 'kol hakavod' when someone protests against murder).
13. Rabin
Marc ,   Israel   (11.04.12)
Yeah Hagai I am sure that Rabin is reading this article in heaven, nodding his head and wishing he was still alive so that he could vote Likud!
14. Left/right/dati/secular: UNITE! BIG Israel ONLY option LEFT!
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (11.04.12)
15. Segal is correct about Rabin's views ...
Rivkah F. ,   jerusalem   (11.04.12)
And, in one of last speeches, Rabin reiterated his support of a united Jerusalem, capital of the State of Israel. So did Leah Rabin. I wish people on the Left would really read Rabin's words more carefully..
16. End the idiocy of Israeli retreat forever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.04.12)
Israel suffers massively from every single Israeli retreat. There is not a single exception to this rule. One merely needs to glance at a map to see the suicidal lunacy of Israeli retreat. This tiny land is all ours. Retreats make Israel indefensible and unviable. Had Israel allowed the cretinous Oslo Agreements to be implemented; Israel would not exist today. End the idiocy of Israeli retreat forever!
17. #16 = RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (11.04.12)
18. oslo was clinton's folly
arne ,   chicag usa   (11.05.12)
rabin & peres were nothing more then pawns--rabin was a reluctant partner to that event, I do beleive he was never in favor of bringing arafat back, giving him guns and money and a place to stay--it was forced on them by clinton, who got a pass on the bad deal. as i stated many times, neither sharon nor begin nor bibi would have allowed clinton to put the mussle on them..
19. #1 S. Ber: yours is formula for chaos, civil strife
Rafi ,   US   (11.06.12)
... basically everyone interpret the law for themselves - and then act upon it. as they see fit. People with your approach are destroying Israel from within.
