Then why Israel is receiving welfare checks from the US taxpayers.
They are not welfare checks. They are either conditional grants where by Israel must use the funding to purchase US manufactured goods and services or out right loans which Israel has never defaulted on repayment. That yachabibi Harold is a good investment.

3. #1 Harold. What welfare checks?
Israel does not receive any welfare checks from any country including USA. In fact USA does not give any welfare checks to any country.
USA does invest in foreign countries for her own interest. For example spends money i African countries to end malaria and AIDS. As a result these can be prevented from threatening US citizens. USA helps countries hit with disasters as a result gains friendship and with this friendship comes clout in conducting world diplomacy. USA invests in Egypt and Israel so that both countries can maintain better relations. USA also contributes huge sums in the Palestinian Authority because it serves our interest.

4. Is Israel wiped off the map?No Israel in the map of index
I just visited to see Israel was wiped off the map of said index.
If you want facts, Significant number of workers from Some of top countries in index came to Turkey to work illegally!
Among them, Bulgaria, and even ENGLAND, I saw a british women cleaning room for small money in southern Turkey summer season. Beside we have so many nurses from abroad etc.
I read your comment all the time and my ? is: If we give you a conditional grant to purchase our goods and services aren't we in reality paying for those goods and services? Welfare checks sound right.
6. response to #3
USA sends checks to Egypt to protect Israel. Egypt is not our neighbor nor do we rely on it for anything. America contributes huge sums to the P.A. because it serves Israeli interests, not ours. Israel is the occupier and it is responsible for the occupied yet somehow you missed that point.
you are a third world country. israel is not.
8. To #6
So America should spend it's money more wisely by stopping the flow of aid to Egypt, so that they can never defeat Israel militarily and thus ensure peace between them. Your country should also stop financing the PA lining the pockets of terrorists so that they will collapse and Israel can annex its hard won territory and offer permanent resident status to those who will not take up Israeli citizenship. The US should take all that money saved and step up its business relations with Israel so that israeli tech and know-how could continue to better the world. Voila!
9. Welfare for whom?
If USA gives a conditional grant to israel to purchase US goods and services US is in reality paying for those goods and services. It is a Welfare but not for Israel, it is a welfare for US industrial military complex. As forthe money US is giving to Egypt, Pals and the likes, it is not intended to benefit Israel, it is simply buying influence, but it is money NOT well spend. Non of the muslim countries are friends of US or any other civilized country. USA will be jbetter off concealing all aid programs to the muslim world. They want to be backwards and go back to the 14th century, let them! Less money they have less aggressive they will be with their pseudo religion and backword Indialogy.
Peace to all who wants it.
10. Personal freedom
Why is Israel scored 118 in personal freedom category?
11. #1 funny thing is
The only foreign country sending aid to America for Hurricane Sandy happens to be Israel.
Where are all your friends?
12. I checked the grading of the site and this index is a joke
in this index rioted Britain has better marks in security than germany..hillarious..or the usa get best marks in education...where just in Yale and Harvard? - where only the rich can go, while study in europe is mostly for free and for everyone?
13. # 2 nadia.Israel is the first line of defence
of western civilization against the barbarians,so,it's in the interest of the US and Europe to help Israel, didn't you yourself escape some oppressive regime in the muslim world ?.
14. Tax the rich!
15. another attempt at humour
General prosperity, for all its faults it is reasonably good but no way 40.
Entrepreneurship, I think 30 or possibly even higher.
Social capital, it is actually reasonably good with the health funds etc but again no way reaches 22.
Security, I would say that Israel itself gets much better ratings than it gets.
Security is one of the countries biggest spending areas and people are very security conscious, I think the people who came to these concluions have been watching the one sided media.
Freedom, it deserves a much better rating than it got.
Thos good old social justice protests, Israel was congratulated on the fact it allowed such things to go on.
We have people protesting all the time over different things, there is freedom of speech and for the most part very few travel restrictions so what is wrong with freedoms?
This thing is a joke and not worth taking seriously.
Top bracket income tax level is already very high but the social justice protestors have been trying to give the impression that the rich don't pay tax.
Top rate tax bracket is 48% which is at least comparable with US top range income tax bracket.
17. Blacks are at the bottom of prosperity
Go to any black community in the USA too and you will see an economic crime-ridden wasteland. Pharaoh Hussein will work hard to turn ALL of America into a black-ridden economic wasteland. He will release all black prisoners in a presidential amnesty and like locusts they will destroy what's left of the former America.

18. To #14 "Tax the rich".....
Taxing the morons would bring infinitely more money to the national coffers.
19. Malta is better than israel?
Don't make me laugh.
Hhahhahha hahha hhahoooo hahahooo
What aload of nonsense
20. legatum cannot be taken seriously
118 out if 140 in personal freedom?
Why not 140 ? Smacks of good old British anti-Israel bias!
21. 7 Israel IS a third world country...
22. A clearly biased list
Does Israel really rank below one- hundred countries in the area of personal freedom, or for that matter security? Consider what is going on in most of the nations of the Islamic world, or in large parts of Africa?
Obvious bias is at work here. Israel may not rank in the top ten but certainly should be in a much higher place in regard to these two particular matters.
Shalom Freedman ,
not according to any statistics by far. israel is in the oecd. considered a DEVELOPED MODERN NATION ACCORDING TO THE OECD.
its economy is one of the best in the world at 17th percent of all globe nations. also considered one of the best education in the world with four of its universities in the top 100 in the world. not a single turkish or arab university is on that list. i wonder why! not!
all this acheived in only 64 years.!!!!!!!!! imagine that!
jews are brilliant and it shows!
24. #7 Definitely not a 3rd world country.
Turkey as a whole may not be considered more prosperous than East Europe countries but she is definitely not 3rd world. Turkey is the successor of the Ottoman Empire which was a main player in the Middle East in its hayday and remained so even when it became "the sick man of Europe" in late 19th and early 29th Century. Turkish law, education, values are elevated. In israel we still use components of Ottoman Law. David BenGurion and Moshe Shertok were proud graduates of the University of Istanbul.
Few little facts about this third world country:
In the technology industry Israel is considered one of the most important places in the world after Silicon Valley.
This third world country has a highly advanced medicine industry and people come from the US and other western countries for medical tourism because Israel's medicine is considered advanced and affordable.
Its a leader in renewable energy.
It is a leader in water recycling and is exporting its technologies to both the third world and Europe.
Alot of modern scientific discoveries have come from Israel.
The country designs, builds and launches its own satellites.
Pretty good for a third world country I think.
It has its problems like every other country, nowhere is perfect but if its a third world country then all third world countries should strive to be like Israel.
All this in 64 years and in those 64 the only modern arab countries are the Gulf states who are swimming in oil and their idea of development is having foreign contractors build private islands for the rich and wasting water on indoor ski slopes.
26. #2 Nadya
That is like saying that the US Government should not provide financial assistance or temporary work visas to foreign students who come to American universities to study. They study here, we have to pay their tuition bill then they can work here in the US displacing American citizens and fully legal US residents. That amount of direct aid and indirect lost economic earnings to American citizens and fully legal US residents is the real 'welfare check' that you maybe trying to identify.
Habib Seliman ,
New York, USA
27. Third World
The US is fast becomming part of the 3rd world and Israel is 25% Arab.
