This CAN"T be true...! What "PSAK halakha"mentions that braiding your friend"s hair is forbidden? Are we all going crazy?

Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (11.13.12)
half of the point is to integrate Haredim into ISraeli society not adjust Israeli society to firt the Haredi warped view of religion - its the commander who should apologize
6. those who find sexuality in everything are perverted

7. braiding is permitted by the Torah
eddie ,   London UK   (11.13.12)
Haredim complained about what exactly? Braiding of hair is not forbidden, and nor is it forbidden to braid someone else's hair. In fact, the Torah in Dt 22,12 commands us to make braids or Gedilim, , i.e. tzitzit, so the normal practice of doing this with hair is permitted.

If this had happend to my daughter I would have told her not not to apologize and ask for a transfer to a unit with no religious personal. And we call our army modern, this put us back into the middle ages
11. it may be time

for Israel to admit that it may not be all that different from surrounding countries.....
12. something missing here
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (11.13.12)
Come on, who can believe this. How many boys in Orthodox homes see their sisters braid each other's hair? Something is missing here. Either the article is missing something important or the soldiers are missing something important!
13. This could only happen in the Israeli theocracy

14. ?????? 3. Immodestly sexy & provocative
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (11.13.12)
Act of making up another woman's hair , may arouse some Haredi sad as it sounds, You have to look how these sects are brought up in materially partial ignorance of the real world they live in, Generally learn Torah for sake of learning, not living . It is an issue that will get ironed out as we mature as a society.
15. I'mreligious and I have no idea what the problem is
Moshe ,   Yerushalayim   (11.13.12)
Was the soldier braiding mens' hair and that's what the problem was? What issur (prohibition) was allegedly transgressed if both were females?
Ze'ev ,   Nbg, germany   (11.13.12)
ISRAEL, WHEN YOU WILL WAKE UP! The haredim are becoming the greatest threat to israels future! WHO and WHEN they will get stoped! ITS OVERDUE!

You had me until the part about not wearing leather boots because you are a veggie. All I needed. Sorry, why don't your go out and start your own army?
18. #1 Israeli taliban
saul   (11.13.12)
sadly I am afraid this is coming true. People no longer concerned about the country as a whole, only their own narrow little view. There should be far greater concerns at this time.
19. Perhaps These Noodnicks should Check out
American Taurus ,   LA-JM   (11.13.12)
Our museums that have braided hair from our Jewesses from 2-3 THOUSAND years ago? So, Modern "Haredi" Judaism is against 'braiding hair in public'???? REEEAAAAALLLYYYY? Sooner or later, all of this taliban Judaism is going to backfire right in the faces of these Saduceean Faux Jews who brought their 'religion' from the Pale of Russia. This has gotten pathetic. Simply G-dless idiocy for ignorant noodnicks who do ZERO for the Jewish People and their relationship with Hashem. We don't need any taliban Jews in Israeli; send them back to the Pale and let them light up their superstitions and 'minhaggim' there...where it isn't FORCED on others and desecrating G-d's Holy Name.
20. Braiding friend's hair?
Oy vey...a capital crime surely warranting a public stoning . C'mon: When will pseudo-religion, make-believe stuff and fake religious mumbo-jumbo end? There is no recognized psak halach'ah that would prohibit one from braiding a friend's hair! The commander of that benighted unit should be made to write a 150-page essay about abusing his rank and should publicly apologize to that young woman. This whole thing is a very sick wonder people abandon Judaism in very large numbers. Religious Judaism/Haredi Judaism nowadays is a mish-mash of superstitions and senseless rules imposed by deranged rabbinical fools. YUCK!
21. Yet another example of religion's(read:men that invented God
tom ,   tel aviv   (11.13.12)
fear of woman's sexuality. Seems that the Judeo-Christian voodoo/bubbe-mayses/superstition is incapable of handling a sound male-female relatiotinship based on mutual respect& understanding. All it can provide, are chains of rigid "laws" given by Bruce Almighty!
22. Dont point fingers at chareidim here
reasonable ,   USA   (11.13.12)
The story clearly states that she was scolded by her commander. If it was "her" commander it must have been a non religous officer, who was misapplying the rules as stated by the Spokesmans office. No where does it say in the story that a religous soldier complained.
23. And you complain about turkey

25. anti religious
maxx ,   Israel   (11.13.12)
I think the point of this article is once again exactly what the center to left media in Israel wants to do is brand religious Jews as sharia law mongering people....this is.not true. The article starts out anti then ends by saying it was a mistake.....her daughter was aloud to wear other shoes and it isn't military policy not to braid a friends hair...what's the point of this article???
26. Jewish Teliban strikes again
Haim ,   TA   (11.13.12)
Maybe the "men" in question should get psychatric help in learning to contain their sexual emotions. Once again the ultra orthdox making problems in the army, just another trick of theres to get out of being drafted. About time the army stood up to these lunatics and made them in to men.
27. Military
Marcel ,   San Jose, Costa Rica   (11.13.12)
I cannot believe I am reading this. The IDF is a first-class fighting force. Trying to integrate the Haredim into its force is one thing but kowtowing to their religious sensitivities is completely unacceptable.
28. What about Haredi units?
Alex   (11.13.12)
The Haredis that demand that should be in special Haredi units. The more secular Haredim should be integrated in regular units.
29. Oh, they're just jealous
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.13.12)
She probably refused to braid their peyot. You know what? The haredim are more trouble than they are worth. Keep them out of the IDF. Cut off their funding to study Torah, of course, but keep them the hell out of the IDF. Soldiers like them only serve to foster friction and difficulty. What's next? Refusing to allow women to sing Hatikvah? To those who may be unaware -- these are not Orthodox Jews. These miscreants are Hasidic Jews. Most don't even support or believe in the State of Israel because it was not brought about by Messianic delivery. GET RID OF THEM. They are poisoning our society. Who would miss the Neturei Karta and the Satmer, anyway? No sane person, that's for sure.
30. braided hair
jo moor   (11.13.12)
Good grief! Have the wanking hareidim got nothing better to do with their time? Get a life out there. Wanking is not the capital of China. Grow up. Attend to more important things going on or going down in Israel.
