IDF restores deterrence    Ron Ben-Yishai
1. hamas terror
srael's Military Response to Hamas Rocket Attacks In 2012 alone, 768 rockets were fired into Israel from Gaza, and in the 72 hours preceding Israel's Pillar of Defense operation, more than 130 rockets were fired into southern Israel. There are two main objectives for Israel's current military action: (1) to protect its citizens, and (2) to cripple the terrorist infrastructure in the Gaza Strip.
bob ,   or yehuda   (11.14.12)
2. The issue is incessant rocket bombardment of South.
Israel is not pursuing advantages but justice.
Miron ,   USA   (11.14.12)
3. Give me a break!!!
"However, there are two reasons why Israel would be wise not to expand its operation in Gaza at this stage: Israel does not want to give the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt an excuse to violate the terms of the 1979 peace agreement, and it also realizes that Hamas does not have full control over Gaza. Israel would be wise to wipe hamass off the earth along with morsi and his brotherhood of demons. Ron Ben-Yishai, grow a pair!
DavidR ,   USA   (11.14.12)
4. Deterrence
The time for deterrence is fast running out. If deterrence is to be by military means, massive attacks on both Hamas and Hezbollah will be required, both involving great loss of life and damage to cities. However, the threat is not military, it is religious. The threat arises because the mullahs call for the destruction of Israel and death to the Jews. The threat will continue to exist so long as incitement by the mullahs continues. In order for a response to be effective, it must be impressive to the mullahs. Israel should implant explosives around the Al Aksa Mosque, and declare that another Muslim attack on Israel will bring the destruction of the Mosque. The decision as to whether the Mosque survives or is destroyed will lie with the mullahs. If they decide to preserve their Mosque, the attacks will stop. If they decide to continue the attacks, the threat to Israel will be no worse than it was, and the military response will be necessary. But, also, the site can be cleared for reconstruction of the Jewish Temple.
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (11.14.12)
5. I do not believe, that this really restored deterrence!
Deterrence is like happyness: As time goes by, it dulls. Deterrence against these people does not exist. They are licking their wounds, replace their commanders and as soon as they are ready and become the "GO!" from their puppet master, they continue. The only way is to blast away their local leadership! If Hamas, Jihad, PLFP and all these barbarians are without leadership, there only will be savage left, who do what savage do, when it comes to take leadership! They will be busy killing each other for a while.
Yael Schlichting ,   currently Munich   (11.14.12)
6. But Ben Yishai, NO time is ever good for you!
Am Yisrael Chai!   (11.14.12)
7. You err !.
There is only one option, The Gaza strip must be wholly Militarily uncapasitated, sooner rather than later. Arn.sweden.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (11.14.12)
8. tople hamas and Fatah
Detterence?its a joke one rocket here and there is as bad.Mexico would lauch a rocket at the Us.They would be back to riding on horses in 2 days.any rocket even 1 is a declaration of war.Past presidents would never putt up with that
mike benchmuel ,   canada   (11.14.12)
9. Deterrence means breaking the to fight
I do not believe that pinpointing and killing some leaders of Hamas is a deterrence of Hamas... The 2009 operation was a half deterrence operation... To be a real deterrence the blow on Gaza should be devastating and unforgetable... However this kind of blow is not allowed by the US and European nations...So, what remians is the tactic of continuous painful attacks... and hope that as time goes on a kind of deterrence will prevail
Salomon ,   Sao paulo, Brazil   (11.14.12)
10. force
When you try to FORCE peace you get rockets in your face. Peace is the last thing you want to force. The word has been pervertly turned inside out. How many blue doves did we see in Beer Sheva and Ashkelon during the disengagemnt- those poor people belived the lie sold as truth. Hopefully we will all be able to internalize current events and realize how vital the heart of our country is- strategically- you dont have to be religious to know this. Wake up and smell the Fajers!
leah G ,   Itamar   (11.14.12)
11. there is no such thing as deterrence
you are dealing with radical muslim extremists whose goal is the elimination of Israel. they should be pounded into submission as any other country would do including the islamic countries. any more rockets on the south should leave gaza in rubble. if egypt wants to have a go pound their backward country as well. you don't tread softly when rockets are being fired at your civilians. what kind of mindset is that? the same one that allowed the nazis to exterminate millions of Jews.
Barney ,   USA   (11.14.12)
12. Why?
B"H Why would it be wise for Israel not to expand operations in Gaza at this stage, Ron? Because you're a clueless leftist who doesn't have to run for his life in Sderot?
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (11.14.12)
13. Your lexical ability
Very impressed by your lexical ability: The assassination of Jabari " thank you for the academic lesson and your overt name smearing of Isreal's army during a war.You evidently try your best to look cool, distant, academic. What a perfect yefe nefesh , tell me where I can send to you flowers , you desserve them.
Raphael ,   Rome   (11.14.12)
14. deterrence is gone
Obama won the elections. Hamas,Hezbollah,Syria,Iran, and Egypt know that US is gonna watch from the sidelines. Israel has a choice;end zionism or commit suicide.
shachalnur ,   mexico   (11.14.12)
15. Retake Gaza forever!
The solution is to reverse the cause of all our Gaza problems. Our problems were caused by Israel's lunatic retreat from Gaza. The answer is to retake Gaza forever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.14.12)
16. To No. 15
OK. Retake Gaza .....and then what?
Bertram ,   London, UK   (11.14.12)
17. "Electoral" mopping NOT ethical. VICTORY & Arab transfer IS!
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (11.14.12)
18. FLAW ANALYSIS!
Who gives a damn about what anyone might do or not do. Ron ben Yishai's advise will bring never ending attacks on Israel. With such a flaw analysis, we are looked upon as cowards. They will continue to mock us. Finish them where it hurts once and for all and Israel should also change its policy regarding ambassadors. Cut off all relations with anyone not willing to place their ambassadors in Jerusalem. Do not fear, Israel!
Israeli 2   (11.14.12)
19. You attack the weak and call that "restoring deterrence"?!!!
How about instead of attacking the frail besieged Gaza Strip, you man-up and attack Hezbullah in Lebanon without getting your collective Jewish ass kicked again?!
Marwan ,   Tel Aviv, Palestine   (11.14.12)
20. Nr 15. Yes .
Esajah 11 14 But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall despoil them of the east together. They shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab, and the children of Ammon shall obey them Arn. Sweden.
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (11.15.12)
21. #19 - Marwan....
Don't you realize its a matter of time before you and yours are killed or deported? Get out now while you can.
Andy ,   Washington, DC   (11.15.12)
22. #19 - "The weak" was shooting hundreds of rockets at us.
That's reason enough to retaliate, dummy. And Hizbullah? They not dare tempt their fate with us, and do not shoot rockets at us. They know what would become of them, and they are too afraid of our collective Jewish ass. But if they'll be stupid enough to try anything, rest assured their fate will be very much the same.
Tahl   (11.15.12)
23. Your Openion
It would be better you keep your crappy openion to your self. Its time we we ignore Egypt or the Americans and do the best for the people of Israel.Must teliminate all their head of Hamas and the rest and also enter Gaza and Destroy it like they did in Leabanon. Then deal with the World. Our citizens can not have a nights sleep properly or to go along their daily lives. Its time we cut off their water and electricty supplies.PLO is not better than Hamas or PLPF or Mujahdin or any other terrorist group.
Ronny Judah ,   Melbourne   (11.15.12)
24. to 19
what are you doing in Israel. go live in syria, iran, lebanon, egypt , sudan or any one of the islamic countries. oh, you don't want to live in those backward repressive countries? take your ignorant opinion and leave the home of the Jews with Jerusalem as the capital
Barney ,   USA   (11.15.12)
25. To # 19
Marwan , The islamic republic Of the Mullas in Iran that carries weapons and finance assistance for the " poor " Palestinians! has taught them to be so thick skin to bray like a donkey in politics also?
David Fakheri ,   l A USA   (11.15.12)
26. Continue to pound Gaza until such a truce is reached
Keep the drones flying and keep pounding the metal workshops, the tunnels, rocket launching sites, police stations, training camps. Fire 10 back for every rocket fired into Israel and it is time to shut off any electricity coming from israel
real vision ,   usa   (11.15.12)
27. #16. Rebuild Gush Katif bigger and better than ever.
Then what? Rebuild Gush Katif bigger and better than ever. Completely reverse Israel's disastrous retreat from Gaza; which is the root cause of ALL our Gaza problems. Drive our enemies from our land.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.15.12)
28. What should be the quota of rockets
received daily before Israel should respond ? The fact is that one rocket is one too many
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (11.15.12)
29. I don't buy this.
Seriously, the situation is already intolerable. The Hamas is already too bad... If there are other extremes, that is all of the more reason to topple these terror cells in Gaza. Be the Hamas, or the next two 'worse' ones. I don't believe in the saying that 'live with Hamas, because the others are worse'. Heard this stuff for so many years. No!
Jonathan   (11.15.12)
30. BALANCE=SECURE BIG ISRAEL=BUFFERS better than "deterence".
Jerry ,   The Netherlands   (11.15.12)
