An endless war    Eitan Haber
1. in a sane world
it would be perfectly acceptable for Israel to invade Gaza and take it back: the road map is in pieces, after all, and that is not for want of concessions from the Israeli side but for want of will on the other
Anne ,   Australia   (11.15.12)
2. dead children
both sides need a strong third party to help them out of this
bill ,   canada   (11.15.12)
3. jews don't get it
home made missiles with something in them very special can very easily drop on tel aviv, as last resort or the one before it
wm   (11.15.12)
4. A SOLID & SOBER ASSESSMENT
Cutting Gaza off from its Sinai arms supplies would however help...
Rafi ,   US   (11.15.12)
5. eitan, better to fight than go to gas chambers
israel still fights with one arm tied behind its back. it tried haber's way with the cursed oslo which has led to no end of troouble. israel has to use rockets to smash gaza and to thing of wholesale smashing of haniyeh, not pinpricks.
yetta   (11.15.12)
6. We do support you, Israel.
All real Christians, all true Democrats, all conscious people around the world, are at your side, Israeli brothers and sisters. You are braving a repeated aggression from a hateful terrorist entity that rules Gaza's Strip. They, and other equal ones, don't want any peace. Their only goal consists on destroying your State. In fact, they blame God Unique and disregard the true necessities of Arab people as a whole. You must struggle with firmness for defending your country, but never giving up to make a good peace's agreement. Although it is difficult today, it will not be so, perhaps, in the future. Mankind moves forward, and final victory belongs to the righteous ones.
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (11.15.12)
7. They will never make peace
It is simple enough, many people can´t grasp it... The Arabs will never make ANY peace deal with the Jews! Even if Israel keeps only Tel-Aviv! They want you go back to Poland!
Salomon ,   Brazil   (11.15.12)
8. It's funny that you think there will be no military solution
But seem to think that there can be a political solution. I say in the meantime, while we wait for the panacea, we have to speak to the terrorists in the only language they understand, and wipe out their ability to harm Israeli civilians.
Miracle Dog ,   Israel   (11.15.12)
9. Road to peace???
As long as Islam refuses to accept Israel as a neighbor, there is and will be no road to peace.
Larry ,   Israel   (11.15.12)
10. thoughtless
"peace, peace, and there is no peace." israel has done everything to make peace, including "disengagement" from gaza. and this has culminated in 100 rockets a day, and a steady increase in the terrorists' capabilities, until they can reach beersheva and the outskirts of tel aviv. all this talk of "piece" is what has destroyed israel's deterrence. and there will be no peace while those who hold power in the arab world cling to their dream of destroying israel. haber is beating a broken drum.
tom ,   toronto, canada   (11.15.12)
11. Unicorns and fairies
Eitan, your editorial reflected a sober, reasonably accurate account of events -- until your last paragraph. That paragraph, which begins with the sentence, "There was never, there is no and there will be no military solution for the abscess called the Gaza Strip" not only fully negates the accuracy and reasonableness of your previous 10 paragraphs, it also negates logic, common sense, and history. When it comes to an intransigent, maniacal enemy, bent on your annihilation and armed to the teeth with the means to achieve it, there is ever ONLY a military solution. Any belief otherwise represents the triumph of magical thinking over adult reality.
SF ,   London   (11.15.12)
12. Peace?
Peace with who? Just because you want peace does that mean Iran and its proxies want peace. Earth to Haber.
michael pielet ,   Israel   (11.15.12)
13. one thousand victims of Oslo
The price of war is high, but necessary. The same can't be said to the deaths from the foolish whim of self-proclaimed peace messiahs
Ilan   (11.15.12)
14. Peace? With whom?
The terrorist rabble to our east? The terrorist rabble to our west? The terrorist rabble to our south? The road to peace, Mr. Haber, lies in the destruction of all the terrorists who surround us. When they are gone, and Israel enjoys secure borders, then -- and only then -- will there be peace. They are a cancer in our midst. Present day Amalekites. They must be completely destroyed. Then, there will be peace.
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.15.12)
15. A war can be a solution!
What makes you so convinced that fighting those who wants to kill us takes us no where? Peace is for those who want it.if not the solution will always be war,if we won't fight - the other side will. it's a solution to prevent ourselfs from being killed, the only solution.
Gil ,   Israel ramat asharon   (11.15.12)
16. Re: "definitely be expanded into a ground offensive"
Dear Mr. Haber, say 5 more times Iron Dome Iron Dome Iron Dome Iron Dome Iron Dome and Sderot can sleep like a baby. Want a dumpling?
Miron ,   USA   (11.15.12)
17. Road to Peace!!??
Why can not the left grow up and realize that there is NO road to peace and there never will be as long as radical Islam is alive and thriving. Their toxic philosophy and fantasies of grandeur can only be put down by either destroying Islam or killing all the illiterate Islamist radicals. Stop already with "Road to Peace...Road to Peace" this has gone too far and there is NO road to peace other than what I advocated. Let us stop this fantasy held by the left and clean out Jerusalem and the West bank of Arabs sending them to Jordan. Next cut off all electricity, food, fuel and water to Gaza and tell Hamas they are next if there is any additional terrorist attacks launched from their sewer.
Dan ,   Florida - Tel Aviv   (11.15.12)
18. Two Problems
Haber (author) points out that neither PM nor DM can afford to look weak. This is now part of the election culture as soon as the elections are announced. Both must show how big and hairy and scary they are by bombing or killing some "mastermind." No discussion of peace has ever involved granting conditions to the other side that Israel would be willing to live under, including actual independence and actual sovereignty to the same degree Israelis enjoy. So now you are in Cast Lead II or Pillar I. But the sequels are inevitable unless the other side can have the same conditions of freedom and independence and sovereignty you enjoy and no zones of death and no siege, just to be sure.
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (11.15.12)
19. There is only one side that wants peace!
Israel. The PA and Hamas could have had peace and a country ten years ago , 20 years ago, and 60 years ago. The only thing that is proven that the Pals consistently want is the destruction of Israel and all the Jewish people. They teach it, they believe it, and they live it. No amount of talk will change it. Haber, as usual you still don't get it.
Edward ,   New York USA   (11.15.12)
20. Total Israeli victory is the true road to peace.
What would a "peace deal" between Israel and the P.A. look like? Israel would lose Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, freedom from constant rocket attacks, defensible borders, freedom from inundation by hostile Arabs. In short, Israel would lose EVERYTHING. Almost all Israel's serious problems are rooted in Israeli retreats. Total Israeli victory is the true road to peace. Pay "Palestinian" poseurs to leave our land forever.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.15.12)
21. There is no partner for peace
I wish there were
Jack ,   NYC   (11.15.12)
22. "If we fail to find..."
Surely, Mr Haber knows that you need two to tango - and Hamas is not a dance partner.
Meir ,   Toronto Canada   (11.15.12)
23. As long as jews fight god
their loving/ vicious creator will encase their sins in arab dog-men and other sewage and harrass them. The only way for peace in this miserable planet is to accept the hell on earth and its loving creator. Hahahahaha .
koon pig   (11.15.12)
24. A stupid and defeatist article!!!
No good military option?! Not only is that the only wise choice, but the total annihilation of the Palestinians is an inevitability--guaranteed! Gaza will be retaken!!!
Jake Stone ,   USA   (11.15.12)
25. What do you mean "victim"?
"Ahmed Jabari was the victim this time"...? The terrorist was eliminated, certainly not victimized - the above comment is an affront to the real victims.
Tomas ,   Canada   (11.15.12)
26. Quite The Opposite, Haber!
B"H - To Jews peace always comes as a result of Jewish victory and never as a result of a “diplomatic process”. Peace is G-d’s gift for compliance with His Torah and until “we” continue spitting Him in the face, as we do, we will have no peace: Why should we? Are we serving Hashem, our G-d, on His Land with all our hearts, with all our souls and with all our resources? No, we don't. As you know all too well Haber, we serve new idols, like the State and its IDF.
Ariel Ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (11.15.12)
27. Peace with fanatics?
Peace with savages?
Shalom ,   U.S.A.   (11.15.12)
28. Eitan Haber as usual provoques
at time of war. "There will be no military solution" he says. How wise of him. What does Hamas proposes, Mr. Eytan Haber? Do you know? Annihilation of Israel, no more no less.
Nora Tel Aviv   (11.15.12)
29. Great idea. But does Gaza Gang WANT peace with Israel?
Alan ,   SA   (11.15.12)
30. unfortunately, that is the reality
even if we were to sign a full peace treaty with Abbas giving him everything he wished for, Hamastan would still be there, supported by Turkey, Qatar, Syria and of course Iran and Egypt. The rockets would continue to fly! We Israelis are not naive and stupid, we learned our lessons from Oslo and the Leftist lies that made us believe it was the solution! Peace means the spread of liberal democracy among Arab Muslims, in other words- when there is a gay pride parade in Mecca- then there will be peace in the Middle East !
