1. OK i'm not in israel, but
dani ,   Washington DC   (11.21.12)
how about a unilateral israeli cease fire, to last for 24 hours (this time limit not to be stated). this war is initiated by hamas to score diplomatic points. so a) beat them at this insane game by showing rockets coming from gaza, shot down by iron dome, without israeli fire. b) it might force a stoppage to rocket fire, allowing for talks to continue c) if talks fail, or rockets continue after 24 hours -- then israel must uproot hamas and they can go to Tunis.
2. Denial
Marcelo Freitas ,   Sao Paulo   (11.21.12)
If I could use one single word to summerize the whole conflict, the word would be DENIAL...Like:Earlier Tuesday the army airdropped fliers warning residents of northern Gaza neighborhoods to evacuate their homes and move towards the center of the Strip. Hamas, in turn, urged the residents to stay, saying the leaflets were means of psychological warfare.
3. SOLUTION : CUT THE ELECTRICITY WE SELL TO THEM !
Mark ,   T.a. Israel   (11.21.12)
4. Well, there's a surprise
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.21.12)
Hamas is not in a position to make demands or set preconditions to a cease fire which they want only in order to regroup and rearm. And Israel will not lift the blockade (one of Hamas' preconditions). So let's just clean out that terrorist rabble once and for all.
5. Why trust Mursi if can't trust President O
Norbus ,   Jerusalem   (11.21.12)
USA Guarantee re Sinai worthless why pretend a truce is of any alue finish the job
6. No ceasefire. No dialogue with terrorists.
David ,   Hartford USA   (11.21.12)
Hamas just slaughtered 6 of their own citizens on contrived charges of helping Israel. Hamas is the Gestapo on steroids. They may accept a ceasefire under the guise of taqiya- lie to the enemy until you have a better hand to defeat them. This is their law. Do not talk with them, destroy them. Hillary was chummy with Qaddafi and thought Assad was a 'reformer.' She has no idea what the fundmentalist Islamic mind is really about. And if she does, her boss won't let her mention it. Just like pirates, the only good Hamas member is a dead one.
7. No truce yet
Rabbi Yakov Lazaros ,   USA   (11.21.12)
Good. Because Israel has not finished the job. Every rocket and missle in the Gaza strip must be destroyed. Including the ones that Gaza Arabs are firing from their homes. If Israel wants to be nice they can give them a 5 minute warning. But every house harboring missles must be destroyed.
8. "Pounds"
CL ,   U.S.A   (11.21.12)
Dear Ynet, Your use of the word "pounds" bothers me greatly. It sounds as if you have the opinion that Israel is using more force then it should. It implies that you have an opinion whereas the media should be neutral and impartial. Let the people decide for themselves. Use a different word. If anyone thinks I am wrong I would love to hear from you as it might make me feel better... :/
9. There's 1 solution: Recycling
(11.21.12)
Instead of destroying the rockets with the Iron Dome and waste costly missles, have the Iron Dome "recycle" them by returning them automatically to the sender. Israelis are smart enough to figure out how to "fix" the Iron Dome. And you know what? You won't need more than 1 rocket going back to its sender to make the region quiet.
10. You know what will end this evil game
Cameron ,   USA   (11.21.12)
Ground offensive. Just no avoiding it. Mustering your forces only to sit at the gates of Gaza is a tragic joke.
11. The rolling war against
John Prophet   (11.21.12)
Iran is picking up speed. Assad is nearly done, Hamas is bleeding profusely and the Israeli call up of 75,000 reservists is meant for Hezbollah. All this while the US is teeing up Iran.
12. The harder Hamas is pounded, the more durable peace will be.
Daniel ,   Los Angeles, USA   (11.21.12)
And all good people want peace. So pound, pound, pound away.
13. Why waiting
CJ ,   Nigeria   (11.21.12)
While waiting for days to attack, giving the enemies time to plan and execute.
14. #2 - Denial?....or Ensuring Human Shields??
William ,   Israel   (11.21.12)
Hizbullah did the same thing albeit more forcefully in 2006. They forbade the evacuation of S. Lebanon by civilians and forced them to turn their cars around and return to the war zone which just happens to be dotted with the same hidden weapons caches and rocket launchers. If you want to know where it's safe, look for Hamas leadership. Only they seek to preserve life (their own) while they sacrifice so many others.
15. "POUNDS" sells paper my friend!
Brett Levitas ,   JHB South Africa   (11.21.12)
If the papers headline was ISR uses its limited force where it could flatten gaza in a day line, it would sell and people would get bored of it. But you are right, even in the sytianbloody civil war where whole buildings are flattened and people myrdered en mass, reporting is as viciferous. We just have to have a thick skin and accept thats the way it is!
16. Unfortunately, CL /8, you live in the US
DI   (11.21.12)
and cannot not fathom the real local semantics of English words. "Pound" is a term which the Hamas understands to its full extent. Middle Eastern apologetics is totally misunderstood and perceived as weakness and treated accordingly. You should at all cost show your enemy that you indeed are stronger than him and can subdue, contain, defeat or destroy him at any time. Whilst this is sadly true in this part of the world, the Europeans and the Americans have shifted their English into politically correct and connotational geers of language. In these parts of the world NO CAN DO !
17. # No Truce Y. Lazarus : You tell'em
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (11.21.12)
You babble on like a cat in labour from your pulpit somewhere cosy in the USA . You probably had 80% of your congregation vote for Obama. You might sound more credible If you were living here in Israel
18. Diplomacy is good. Hillary, Syria awaits a real diplomat.
Jake B. ,   Cleveland, OH   (11.21.12)
While she's in the region, will Clinton be stopping in Syria (less than 1 hour away by plane) to discuss 'a durable outcome' to the violence there? Will she state that while world attention is focused on Israel, 165 people are killed each day in Syria? That's more than the sum of both Israeli and Hamas casualties together in the past week. Will she acknowledge that Israel is fighting a war against terror in the very same way the US has been fighting al Qaeda? Will she ask her president what he would do if a terrorist organization were firing rockets from Mexico into 25 percent of US territory? Of course the answer to all of these questions is No. The real purpose of her visit is to pressure the Israeli government not to wipe out the Hamas terror organization. Wednesday morning, I'll be watching the press conference on CNN while I play my favorite game, 'misdirection bingo', placing an X on terms like "working toward a comprehensive peaceā€, "nation building", "de-escalation" and "our allies" - the usual favorites. Three across and, Bingo, everyone looses.
19. Lieberman has proved...
Raoul ,   Herzliya.   (11.21.12)
he is really stupid!! Unbelievable.
20. Not so, #8.......blunt & appropriate terminology employed
Cameron ,   USA   (11.21.12)
YNET is a curious beast at times, but fault them not for the manner in which they title their posts. Always one of the more positive aspects of the site. Few do it better on the Internet.
21. US GO HOME. US ARE THE PROTECTORS OF BROTHERHOODS
(11.21.12)
22. Clinton : go to Syria !
(11.21.12)
23. So only the Arabs want peace?
rube ,   jeru   (11.21.12)
Once again our leaders fail us miserably in the war for public opinion. Is it so hard for us to make public offers for cease fire if for example Hamas destroys all its remaining missiles? At least we will have offered.
24. The problem is we seem to have NO
DT ,   TA Israel   (11.21.12)
leadership. Lieberman is turning into a huge disappointment by saying "we want a few years of quiet..."! Presumably so Hamas can lick their wounds and rearm with more advoanced weapons and statrt all over again
25. @2: I wouldn't leave, too
Walter ,   Germany   (11.21.12)
Because I would be afraid if I leave my home I would not be able to return because Israel gave my home to some settlers. We know Netanyahoo and his supporters who dream of Gross-Israel.
26. #8, CL - Good point, but
Avinoam Katz ,   Modiin, Israel   (11.21.12)
Note that this news item also went out to AP. AP and AFP wire services (sometimes cynically referred to as 'Approved for Palestinians') will just not accept an article for syndication unless it contains a slant against Israel. Apparently, 'Pounds Gaza' was good enough for them. Compared with other English News sources coming out of Israel, yNet is doing an excellent job.
27. Walter from Germany, you have no idea
(11.21.12)
what you are talking about. For some mean, weird reason, you take this conflict out of context. I wonder why? Why don't you deal with your Faterland instead?
