4. Excellent opinion piece
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (11.26.12)
Perhaps Israel should simply rein in the terrorists ourselves. The world will shrug its shoulders and move on. We're used to the double standard -- one set of rules for Israel, and a completely different set of rules for every other country. The very existence of that standard simply buttresses Israel's absolute right to do what it takes to ensure that we do not have to revisit the issue of missiles fired from Gaza. We know they have only retreated to a corner in order to lick their wounds, regroup and rearm. It is criminal to subject Israeli citizens to the whim of terrorist groups bent on the destruction of the State of Israel and the extermination of the Jewish people. Hamas and the rest of the terrorist rabble in the Strip need to be eliminated. We know the world applies a double standard -- so that makes their reaction irrelevant. Israel is in the business of looking after Israel, not in placating the international community.
5. The International Community? Before Gaza Op?
Sarita Montiel ,   Israel   (11.26.12)
Oh that's easy to answer The International Community was in the same place they have been since the beginning of the Syrian Civil War in March 2011...they were busy carrying for the Palestinians in Aza (Gaza)... The International Community is myopic and profoundly deaf when it comes to any other people in the region... The International Community only cares about the Palestinians.... but then we have all known that since at least 1964!
6. We Think "Serves The Israeli Warmongers Right"
World Citizen ,   the world   (11.26.12)
That's what the international community was thinking. The problem with you Israelis is you believe 100 percent of the propaganda put out by your government and the Jewish controlled western press. You have convinced yourselves that Jews have a divine right to Palestine. Most of the international community gets their news from objective sources and can see what you are doing. And thank G-d, we have also moved past your primitive self-serving relic religion. You don't have anymore rights to Palestine than I do. It's time to go out and read what others are saying about you instead of spending all your time at Ynetnews. Thenyou can better understand not what the international community thinks but why we think this way.
7. Dan Calic, you cannot mislead your readers, dont try .
Salma ,   Palestine   (11.26.12)
Where was international community when tens of thousands of Palestinians were expelled from their villages and cities to Gaza and WB and outside the borders of Palestine? this is the question, war started from this point
8. The whining of the delusional
esse ,   --   (11.26.12)
I wonder if any American media complained that no one in the "international community" seemed to care that Iraqi insurgents were planting IEDs that were blowing up American soldiers? I very much doubt it. Sure, America was occupying Iraq and we have left Gaza, but it's the same dynamic. Why is it we have people like the author (and talkbackers who agree with him) who don't seem to realize the reality of our situation? Do they honestly think we're 100% the "good guys" and any hate directed toward us must come from antisemitism? Are there really Israelis this delusional? Obviously there are. If we want to keep our current policies toward the Palestinians, we must at least stand up and take responsbility for the consequences (hate from Palestinians and hate from the international community.) Not doing AT LEAST this really makes us look pathetic.
9. @6Which part of"no peace ever"&Hamas charter cant you unders

understand? Please list All the Jewish owned media BBC? CNN?
10. Many questions Calic, no answers!
Jack Klaber ,   R. Hasharon, Israel   (11.26.12)
What is so difficult to understand? France to the French, Brittain to the Brittons, Denmark to the Danes. So Palestine to the Palestinians. We Jews must go where we came from: Hell or the far side of the moon. Auschwitz is now a museum bringing in lots of foreign currency to Poland, so no way they are going to spend money to rebuild it for its original purpose.
11. #7 "Salma", WHO is "misleading" whom..?!??!
Jenny ,   Brooklyn USA   (11.26.12)
Palestinians were asked by invading arabs to leave villages and cities (snort!). Lets get some facts straight. No on, and I mean no one, was "expelled". Jenny
12. Bravo Dan! You said it perfectly.
David ,   Hartford USA   (11.26.12)
And until the UN and the world behave differently, Israel has every legal and moral right to beat the tar out of Hamas in any way it deems necessary. (and it always does.)
13. #6 world citizen
Isaac ,   USA   (11.26.12)
Hamas' charter calls the the anihilation of the Jews. Not of Israel, but of the Jews. They want to commit genocide against them. This group was given the most votes when Palestinians had elections, and there was no gaza blockade until these homicidal maniacs who have the same aspirations as the nazis took power in gaza. They will stop at nothing until theyve accomplished their plans. What is israel supposed to do? Open the gaza blockade to weapons and give them land and hope they change their mind about genocidce? Your comments are a perfect example of what the writer of this article was talking about. It's dummies like you that allow evil to proliferate in this world. Congratulations you moron.
14. The really important question: What was Israel doing?.
Chaim ,   Israel   (11.26.12)
The really important question: What was Israel doing? Why did Israel's government allow hundreds of terrorist rockets to fall on her citizens before doing anything about it? Even under Obama, the very first rocket to hit an American city would trigger a devastating response. You can't expect the international community to respond to anti-Israel terror if the Israeli government barely responds.
15. I agree with the author totally
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (11.26.12)
16. The correct answer is that we did not hit
jason white ,   afula, israel   (11.26.12)
the terrorists and their civilian supporters years ago. We made Jewish life cheap and we were apathetic to the death and suffering of our own people. We showed the world that we care more about the lives, property and welfare of those that want to kill us and their supporters. We let anti Semites and anti Zionists diss us and we never hit back. We let some of our own citizens demonstrate both here and abroad for the enemy. Why weren't they arrested here for aiding the enemy? Why weren't they hit by a Mossad hit squad overseas. We let the enemy sit in our knesset and pay them to spew their hate of Jews,Judaism and Israel. We are our own worst enemy. We are to blame!
17. Wow, World Citizen, you must be very
Israel Forever !   (11.26.12)
sore and one little bit and you will surely implode. But it serves you right ! Your vitriolic attacks on the Jewish people, Israel and our religion are the worst possible BS and drab one can spew. Not even you believe what you are vomiting. Therefore, I assure you that no humanoid creature like you will ever succeed in making one dent to the Jewish people in Israel. Am Israel Chai !

You are a MORON,we jews don't have to go and read other people's opinions,we've been reading them for two thousand years and it hasen't changed. It all comes from jealousy of us.it's your kind that should go out and read THE TRUTH.You personally wouldn't be on this site if you didn't want to read the truth.Go to any MUSLIM site and get your laughs then come back for some serious education here.
19. Israel lacks in Propaganda
David Ashtamkar ,   Dimona Israel   (11.26.12)
Basically I am writing this as my personal opinion, When I was living in India, I knew very little about what is happening in Israel, in fact, that is what I found with others when I tried to get information about Israel before Immigrating. Even during the last operation in gaza, I was also concerned as much others but since I do not know Hebrew, i found myself out of touch. I personally feel, hebrew is OK, but we must not neglect English, we should have atleast one 24hr News channel in English during such crisis, so that people like me can get a chance to know the views of prominent people. Channel like BBC & CNN should take footage from our English channel, so that we can beam our views
20. Dan how many of these 12000 rockets killed israelis?
Gregg ,   Haifa Il   (11.26.12)
21. You're about 6 years late with this article
Gracey ,   Israel   (11.26.12)
The international community should have been aware of the first rockets fired into our countr back when we pulled out from Gaza. The world doesn't understand why our response was so harsh - because they think it only started last week.
22. #19 david
friend of israel ,   n ireland   (11.26.12)
you are exactly right, your government has to do a lot more to get the israeli message across and promote themselves. its a well known fact that the terrorists are winning the propaganda battle with their lies and make believe pitiful stories against israel. the IRA did it here for years and misled the world about british injustices in Northern Ireland. Terrorists will always lie and gain support, its time the Israeli government promoted the truth and showed the world how the evil terrorists operate and lie in order to gain support. Strength to Israel and no surrender!!!
23. Too TRUE
hippocrates ,   earth   (11.26.12)
24. #6 - take the religious aspect out of the equation
William ,   Israel   (11.26.12)
and we still have a right to our homeland where it stands today. Why? Because we followed the rules of State building, Intl Laws at the time, and purchased much of the land with deeds to prove it. That's the legal argument which swings heavily in our favor. Conversely, the "Palestinian" argument is - "it was always Arab land." Wrong. "It was stolen from 'Palestinians'" - less than 5% of the entire British Mandate of Palestine was ever in private hands, and of that, less than half was in Arab private hands. Many of those who claim to be "Palestinians" will land rights have no proof to that effect - not in the form of a land deed, not written in the Ottoman Era Taba - nothing. "The State of Israel was built on the State of Palestine" - Palestine never existed as a State nor as a sovereign region. And finally, Jewish immigration was welcomed by the Ottomans from as early as 1820, especially to places like Jerusalem. So it's not the "invasion by Europeans" as Arabs claim. So yes - take the religious angle out of the argument and you see an even greater justification for Jewish ownership and self-determination today.
25. I would add one more perspective to this article
William ,   Israel   (11.26.12)
In addition to "where was the intl community when South Israel was being hit with rockets?" I would ask "where was the Israeli leadership all this time when southern Israel was being hit with rockets? Once Tel Aviv became a target suddenly the govt was concerned. Coincidentally, both Barak and Peres have expensive homes in Tel Aviv, and Meretz and Labor have their HQ there.
26. #7 - they didn't say very much, salma
William ,   Israel   (11.26.12)
because there really wasn't an expulsion as you try to make us believe. During the war, there were UN staff in the area as well as journalists from all over the world covering this. Yet, no one documented any forced expulsion as you claim occurred. Even Hazem Nusseibeh of the Arab Higher Committee admitted the lies on the BBC in 1998. Come clean Salma - most Arabs expelled themselves out of fear or greed...just like your grandparents I suspect. If Arabs were expelled why did so many remain in Israel and stayed to build the State together? Gazans claim to hail from Jaffa and Haifa, yet both cities are full of Arabs to this day and are relatively peaceful. The war didn't start when Arabs fled but rather in 1919 when Arab massacres of Jews began in ernest with calls from the Muslim Brotherhood under the banner of Pan Arab Nationalism (your "flag" to this day, remember?).
27. #8 - nice try, but two can't be equated
William ,   Israel   (11.26.12)
Are we 100% good guys? No, and war is hell. But while the goal in Iraq with IEDs may be to repel US forces, the goal here was to kill and ethnically cleanse an entire race of people. This began well before the independence of Israel in 1948 and their goal hasn't changed. A few Arab nations have realized that war isn't the answer and gave up destroying Israel, and they live in peace. The precedent has been set but "Palestinians" refuse to follow that path. In 1999, during the biggest boom in the economy and biggest hope among all populations, the PLO launched a failed intifada. Why? Because any pending deal would have ensured Israel's existence, even alongside a "Palestinian" State, and this was unacceptable. Iraqis didn't try to erase the US, they wanted to US out. Not the same with Arab terrorists targeting Israeli civilians.
28. #20 - so you're saying that terror is OK
William ,   Israel   (11.26.12)
as long as no one is killed. OK. So instead of the IDF firing on rocket launchers and weapons depots in Gaza, Israel should level the playing field by simply firing rudimentary rockets into Gaza periodically - without warning or remorse. Maybe it will hurt someone, maybe not. It will certainly terrorize them and if I heard you correctly, that's ok. Too bad for the screwed up children who ARE indeed casualties to your 12,000 rockets, Gregg.
29. In the eye of the world
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (11.26.12)
jews are permanently comiting a crime : they are insisting to live.
30. Israel made 18 requests to UN in 2012
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (11.26.12)
Since the begging of 2012 Israel made 18 requests to the UN to take some action against the Hamas rockets launched to Israel. The UN did not act on any of these requests. Israel showed 11 months of restraint before acting militarily. Let me compare this to another similar issue in the ME. Turkish border was hit by Syrian mortars once, by mistake. Turkish military retaliated immediately. Did not wait for 11 moths and hundreds more attacks to happen. Muslim Turkey did not send any warnings to civilian population to evacuate before attacking them. They just attacked. If Muslim Turkey has the right to defend herself so does Israel. And shame on the UN for not even issuing a condemnation of Hamas rockets.
