The assumption here is that wars will be fought between countries, as opposed to that between groups within a country, and ideologies which have no country. Consequently, we can expect more Internal strife. We are already seeing regions within countries calling for more autonomy, and unless central givernments provide this, then the risk of armed conflict increases. The "peace" we've experienced since WW2, is due to global domination by a small group of countries, backed by the British-created world government known as the UN. The world is waking up to the fact that the UN will never bring world peace, and that the members of its security council are power hungry empires who seek to dominate every last inch of the globe. These past 60 years will go down in history as a misleading calm before a massive storm. There will only be peace when countries start cooperating on a bilateral level. Imposed "peace" is a temporary band-aid that is bound to disintegrate with time.

If we had these statistics in 1914 would they have taken into account some royal would be assassinated and it would have led to a world war? The Arab winter took the whole world by surprise. On minute business as usual in the arab world, next thing you know th dictators are falling like dominos. You can predict things like war in Africa or wars being started by the likes of Saddam Hussain. You can never though predict human nature and that is what makes wars not tanks and jets. We must never assume we are past the age of war and stop arming ourselves because if we do that because we assumed there wouldn't be another war and we were taken by surprise we would lose and be killed.

But it really seems to commit many egregious statistical sins (isn't it more likely that infant mortality is high because a country is at war, rather than the other way around, as the study's assumptions suggest?) does not account for a number of emerging negative trends (scarcety/high cost of food, radicalization both in the developing and developed worlds, etc.) and ends up pulling its conclusions out of thin air. As much as I would love it to be true, and even overestimation (hey, why not 4%, or 1%, or even 0?), my own views are much less optimistic.
