61. #1 punishing Palestinians cause of what europe does .
Abdalla   (12.06.12)
Really?
62. We're going to pay
Frozen ,   Toronto, Canada   (12.06.12)
It's OK. the price will be worth it. Whatever the Europeans charge. The Arabs have been bad for centuries and have not paid at all. It's about time we started being bad as well. And if times get hard we should be even worse. It seems to get them what they want and maybe it will work for us as well.
63. #61 Abdalla
Vlad   (12.06.12)
You Palestinians are the ones who go crying to Europe and the UN begging them to punish Israel.
64. #51 and 52 ynut
Vlad   (12.06.12)
Israel may not have the capability to force Europe's hand, but it can at least make the Europeans pause and think through their actions. EU sanctions would be painful, but Israel is a hi-tech hub. Practically every computer user in the world uses Israeli technology. Sanctioning Israel would not be like sanctioning a major power, but it wouldn't be like sanctioning a third-world banana republic either. Unless Israel begins expelling or killing Arabs en masse, significant political and economic sanctions are unlikely. Also, Israel's energy supply may not be crucial to Europe, but is sure tempting. I doubt the Europeans care enough about the Palestinians to stop the flow.
65. EU announced: NO SANCTIONS!
Wade ,   NYC USA   (12.06.12)
66. Disagree with #11
Marcos ,   Brazil   (12.06.12)
A strong nation must act to defend their own interest. International community cares only about money and are corrupted by their oil needs.
67. disagree
dan ,   Washington DC   (12.06.12)
israel must stand up to this nonsense. it is not ok to support or abstain from the decision of the palestinians to "declare a state" without negotiating with israel or regard for israeli security or mutual arrangements. if the europeans think it is ok, then israel can also take unilateral steps. yes, one can try to make this less "argumentative" by lying down, but in the end you will only get quietly rolled over.
68. The EU is broke ....
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.06.12)
... and morally bankrupt. They cannot afford their ever-increasing energy costs, and here's tiny Israel, who can discount natural gas to the EU out of those two enormous natural gas fields off the coast of Haifa. The EU is caving in to vocal and violent Arab and Moslem minorities; France is already a lost cause, as is the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Norway and Sweden halfway there. Germany sinking fast. Every other country is either bankrupt or facing imminent bankruptcy. On balance, Europe is really not relevant, and hasn't been for some time. The sovereign State of Israel should ignore the EU. They want to boycott Israeli products? Fine. I hope they also remember to boycott Israeli technology and Israeli natural gas, or else pay fair market value -- time to end the deep discounts that Israel gives the Europeans. There's no reason and certainly no incentive for us to keep trying to make that passel of terrorist lovers and anti-Semites like us; (a), it isn't going to happen and (b), we don't need them NEARLY as much as they -- and their skyrocketing energy demands -- need us.
69. To: No. 56
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (12.06.12)
Not quite. It's deeply discounted Israeli top-of-the-line technology and very inexpensive natural gas -- or lip service to Europe's obnoxious and violence Arab and Moslem minorities. So, if you think the ersatz "Palestinians" can give you what you get from Israel -- by all means, go right ahead. It will hasten Europe's demise and, frankly, that's a good thing.
70. Memo to Shiffer: You don't scare us!
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.06.12)
Shiffer you're not scaring Israel with your sick campaign to induce us to concede to our genocidal enemies. We are not scared of Europe. We are not scared of "paying". We are not about to cede our sole Homeland because of your pathetic, disgusting attempts to induce us to panic. Your sick gig is over.
71. #31. Most Americans are more pro-Israel than Obama.
Chaim ,   Israel   (12.06.12)
Poll show the opposite of what you write. Most Americans are more pro-Israel than Obama. This tiny land belongs to Jews and "Palestinian" poseurs will ultimately have to go.
72. to 38
(12.06.12)
sure it is not money but ....hahaha
73. To N 57
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (12.07.12)
Dear Israel Israeli. Many people, around the world, like me, do admire and endorse your country. She has to be much strong against the ones which don't stop to attack her. But, listen. There is no other solution than "Two States" into "Old Palestine". Of course, never endangering Israel. Is it possible? It may be difficult. But, out of it, the "stalemate" will never be ended. God bless you and all Israeli brothers and sisters.
74. Shiffer long time Arab Apologist
MysteryMan ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.08.12)
Nothing new here Shiffer is a long time Arab apologist with a special affinity to the Arabs, man of mystery dissapears from public view and then there he is , not an influential journalist not known by many outside the hard core left cabal.
75. How much $?
J ,   isr   (12.08.12)
how much would this new barrage of settlement construction will cost the tax payer? How much will cost the tax payer in security for these new settlements? how much will cost the tax payer creating road networks to connect and ultimately consolidate the settlements? what does it do to our image on the world stage? what does it cost our yet developing democracy? Must be a huge amount. Now what else could be done with this money?! How about improving our medieval-era infrastructure? investing in green tech? funding education? the list goes on... no matter how you look at it, we aint getting nothing from settlement construction besides the waste of money and the wrath of the Palestinians and the rest of the world.
