32. The Gaon Reb Moshe Feinstein ztl
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (12.17.12)
The late Posek HaDor [generation's leading halachic authority] Reb Moshe Feinstein was asked about women taking on men's mitzvahs such as tefillin etc. He responded that if a woman does this out of genuine spirituality she may do so , preferably in private, but if she does it to show women can do whatever men do, she is not fulfilling a mitzvah. Women at the Wall have their own place at Robinson's Arch, but prefer to knowingly offend other women who pray at the Western Wall by adopting men's practices. Contrary to several other posts, women can carry a Sefer Torah and can lain for other women -- althouigh this is not the usual custom and should be done where it will not cause offence.
33.  True story.

A secular sponsor proposes a huge amount of money to a famous Rabbi,if he accepts students without beard . The rabbi , without thinking twice, accepts the generous offer. ... and opens a school for girls.

and every visitor should have unconditional access to The Wall. It is a national treasure and not a religious shrine. Many Israelis fought and spilled blood to liberate The Wall, some gave their lives, now they and their descendents are being subjected to humiliating conditions of access by religious fanatics who do not own the structure more than others do. We all own it and we all should have freedom of access.

Stan ,   Israel   (12.17.12)
But if you live in Israel where there is no separation between State and Religion, There are no civil mariages. Divorce is only given by a Bet Din (religious court) If the woman is lucky, her husband will agree to give her a divorce. For 20% of the women this is not the case, and they can remain "agunot" (women waiting for their husbands to release them) for many years. DO YOU HAVE THE SAME SITUATION IN THE USA ? Conservative and Reform Jews in Israel are not recognised as Jews. The salaries of all rabbis in Israel are paid by the state ( except the Conservative and Reform) I am a member of a Mesorti (Conservative) community, a number of years ago one of our Torah Scrolls had to be repaired. We asked the religious council in our town to help fund this very costly repair. The head of the council, an American Chabadnic, said to our representative "YOU ARE NOT JEWS" !!!!!!!!!!! WHEN THE RELIGIOUS AUTHORITIES OF THE STATE OF ISRAEL RECOGNISE US AS EQUAL, THESE WOMEN WILL BECOME LESS MILITANT
36. Reply to number 11 Touching a Sefer Torah
Joseph ,   London UK   (12.18.12)
A Sefer Torah is not mekabel tumah, and a woman may touch a Sefer Torah even if she is Nidah, although many do not. People confuse the prohibition on touching Kodshim in the Bais HaMidkdosh with touching a Torah. Although women can wear tefillin they should discuss the details with a Rabbi, and shouldn't do so where it will cause offense. A woman can put tzitzis on a suitably large piece of clothe, but should not wear a standard men's tallis because of the Torah prohibition that describes crossdressing as an abomination.

My guess is that they are not fanatics like those who do go and pray at these places!

Christian Schiffer ,   Sandefjord, Norway   (12.28.12)
Hi I have decided to convert to Judaism and I have been a Christian before, for 30 years so I have studied the Torah, unfortunatly not the Mitzvots as I was wrongly taught they did not apply to me. So I wonder, what does the Torah say in this regard? Shalom.
