Anyone who served in the 80s until 2006 knows that Shahak was responsible for stifling the IDF for a whole generation. Going on the assumption that there would be "peace" and that "wars" were a thing of the past, he stopped all development. The other big change was "Professor Generals" who used words instead of getting the job done. Soldiers often had to hold their heads after hearing them talk. It went straight from Shahak to the younger officers. History will indeed treat Amnon harshly.

I salute General Shahak for his bravery and service to the nation. I do not understand his politics. Why would he support Oslo? Negotiate with a mass murder, terrorist Arafat, AND bring him back to the land of Israel. The whole Oslo process was poorly, planned, and reckless . A terrible decision made a bad situation much worse. I am thinking about all the Jewish people, children that were, killed, maimed and scarred. Israel will have to, must do better in the future
