1. Thank you
R ,   Israel   (12.21.12)
Ido, thank you for this article and for your and your fellow students' efforts to battle this hypocrisy. And thanks to Joy Harjo for standing up to these thugs. Hope she had a great visit.
2. Self-boycott by Israeli academics
Edgar Pick ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (12.21.12)
Congratulations, Mr. Daniel for your courage and slpendid ability to state the simple facts as they are. You are right in every sentence that you wrote. The most important comment is the one in which you point out that those who, by their very position, should have defended Tel Aviv University from the absurd lies about apartheid on the campus (take a walk on the campus and in Ramat Aviv) kept silent. It is the President and the Rector of Tel Aviv University who should have raised their voice against the boycott and the self-boycotters and not leave this task to the students. The Minister of Education should also have taken some time from his electoral activities to deal with this issue. As you have rightly pointed out, our silence in the face of an organized campaign of villification, is the main reason for its success. Edgar Pick, M.D.,Ph.D. Professor Emeritus, Tel Aviv University
3. Remarkable that Israeli "academics" and NGOs are so blind
Carl ,   USA   (12.21.12)
How can these people who are inside Israeli universities proclaim such lies as "apartheid" when Arabs and Jews are students in their own classrooms. These academicians sit side-by-side with Arab faculty in their own institutions and they undoubtedly collaborate with Arab professors at every other Israeli university. When they are sick, they can be treated by Arab doctors and nurses, while sharing a hospital room with an Arab patient. How about protesting the true apartheid that takes place throughout the Arab world, where non-muslims are second class dhimmis and women have no rights whatsoever? How shameful educators keep promoting outright lies instead of facts and truth.

Fantastic, well written article. Thank you
5. The Anti-Israel Crowd Gets Inspiration From PressTV
LookingUpAgain   (12.21.12)
To know the distorted world of these activists led by Chomsky, Bennis, Benjamin, it is worth to visit MEMRI's selection of PressTV clips.javascript: save()
6. Kol Hakavod to you guys.
Susie ,   Nitzan, Israel   (12.21.12)
It is about time that someone stood up to these left wing despots.
7. Wow that's great!
Nili   (12.21.12)
8. Excellent
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (12.21.12)
Great piece. Thanks. Am forwarding to all I know.
9. Ido Daniel
Michael ,   Haifa   (12.21.12)
His essay is deserving of an F grade in any self-respecting academic institution. He did not cite a single example of an Israeli academic objecting to this lady's appearance at T-A University. He implies that all Israeli academic staff who support Peace NGO 's also support the boycott of Israeli academic institutions. That is an outright lie. It boggles the mind that such a person was accepted as a student at a respectable university
10. Liberal & Feminism
Tova ,   Canada   (12.21.12)
Liberals don't care about the world. Feminism does nothing to benefit to women. Both talk about peace & equality. But the smart ones make sure they have lots and lots of money while protesting. And makes sure the IDF protects them when war comes. Liberals & Feminism both dangerous combination.
11. How do they sleep at night?
R. Dunlop ,   Chicago,IL   (12.21.12)
Kol Hakavod Ido Daniel and Yasher Koach Joy Harjo
12. the enemy within
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Zion, Zion   (12.21.12)
israel's most dangerous enemies are jews who want to destroy zionism and with it the jewish state of israel. the vast majority of normal israelis must stand up to these traitors within israel. they must vote for political parties that are zionists.
13. Coalition of women for "peace"
Danny ,   BC   (12.21.12)
Give me a break... Bunch of haters
14. Is this the best argument Israeli students have to offer?
Mikesailor ,   Miami, FL   (12.21.12)
If this us an example of an Israeli education it is pathetic to say the least. I'm still trying to understand exactly who or what this 'student' is railing against. those who promote an academic boycott? Yet, the student professes to embrace a 'Jewish' state, in other words Jewish domination. I wonder if the student learned anything from the universalist message of the lecturer? It doesn't seem so. .
15. #9 Leftist Semantics Dont Work With Us
NudNik69   (12.21.12)
Yes he did. Dr. Dalit Baum - even though currently resident of USA, does classify as an "Israeli academic".
16. Excellent article!!!
Ilana   (12.21.12)
I cannot express the distaste and disgust I feel when I read about Israelis calling for a boycott. They are traitors of the very worst kind. The others calling for a boycott are bad as well, but pale in comparison. Shame be on their heads. I really don't know how they sleep at night, but they do, on expensive linen, too.
17. How do they sleep
EddyL ,   Melbourne Australia   (12.22.12)
Having lived with 40 odd years of seemingly endless protests and social engineering, Ido Daniels shows the narrow minded hypocritical bigotry that sometimes accompanies those who loudly proclaim freedom and tolerance, while denying the same to others.
18. Self demonization of Israel radicals
prof. I. Barr ,   University of Michig   (12.22.12)
The anti Israel Israeli academics prosper in the "academic freedom" environment which today does not require any accountability. They do not provide factual accuracy and frequently lie. They are not fair, balanced or responsible but demand everything from those who oppose them. They do not allow criticism, discussion openly, but resort to self serving facist tactics. Ilan Pappe, Niv Gordon and alike all were rewarded for their Israel demonization. Yet, Israel must recognize the enemy within. Do not send your children to classes of those academics who may turn them into marxist anarchist and anti Semites.
19. How do YOU sleep at night?
Nina ,   NYC   (12.22.12)
Knowing that the home you live in was once where a Palestinian lived, you displaced them, chased them out and pushed them into camps. Now they are being shelled by Assad or are being harassed by Settlers and IDF.
20. Excellent -- almost
Neal ,   Minneapolis USA   (12.22.12)
Excellent, Ido, in every respect but one: A person 60 years old is NOT elderly. Maybe you meant she was an elder of her community, which would be OK. But I'm 68 years old, and blessed with good health I and my age cohort are anything but elderly!
21. The true test of a democracy is freedom
ben   (12.22.12)
of speech. In a real democracy Noam Chomsky would have been allowed to speak at a Arab university
22. Decades of anti-Israel propoganda have an effect
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (12.22.12)
The arab countries could not beat Israel in wars but they tried. So they started using the Pals/arabs as pawns: The " poor pal/arabs suffering under Israel occupation" was their new strategy against Israel. There are decades of repeated attacks on Israel by the news media including the BBC, CBC, NBC, ABC, CBS, Time magazine and many more. Young people who listened to this unceasing torrent of anti-Israel " news", started to believe what they heard and read from such anti-Israel news media. These young people grew up to be professors, decision makers, journalists, and they also continued to spread the same anti-Israel lies that they themselves were succered into believing. Today, decades later, Israel faces a World that has been " educated " for so long on the anti-Israel lies and propoganda. Congratulations to these students for standing up for Israel and speaking the truth.
23. Boycotts
Rick ,   Herzelia Israel   (12.22.12)
Israeli universities, being the democratic institutions they are, allow just about any view to be held by staff or students. I think that many of these critical of the government do not realize that instead of attracting those who seek real debate on very sensitive and deep issues, they are attracting those who wish only death and destruction to Israel and the Jewish people. The boycott against Israel is not a boycott against any particular group within Israel. Rather, it is a bandwagon that encourages those who hate the Jewish people for all manner of reasons to scream and shout and incite to murder. These boycotts are against all Jews in the same way as the boycotts against European Jews in Europe for generations has always been against all Jews. I believe that the Israeli universities should pursue a policy of monitoring those who unwittingly encourage hatred against the instutions who pay their salaries and allow total freedom of speech, since these institutions of learning are indeed a beacon of freedom in the wilderness that is the rest of the middle-east. A boycott of Israeli universities is a boycott of the entire voice of the Jewish people.
24. #14 mikesailor - is this the best you have to offer?
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.22.12)
Yes it is, as you obviously can’t make any good argument about the article. Israel is a JEWISH state, or didn’t you realize that? The anti-Israel groups mentioned want to make it into an arab/muslim state. That is definetly not a universalist message but one for arab/muslim domination. If you don’t understand the article, read it again and again and again...
25. How do they sleep at night?
David ,   Israel   (12.22.12)
Thank you and -Kol Hakavod to you guys
26. The Courage of Joy Harjo
Robert Elman ,   Montreal Canada   (12.22.12)
As the Canadian President of Friends of an Israeli University, permit me to say Yasher Koach to Joy Harjo (May G-D ) give you strength. I have had friends from South Africa in my life and used to befriend a great South African theatre producer. I have seen through the eyes of nativ SA. what aparheid is all about. They could not go to the same toilets as whites, look at a white women, hold rfesponsible jobs or live among the whites . There are Arabs in the Knesset, who live among Jews who go to Israeli universities, who own businesses, who invest in Israeli companies. This debasement of Jews is another attempt to deligitimize Jews , to make them seem like Nazi's who tried destroy us or compare us to the whites of SA. How many countries provided aid to the US following Sandy Say Israel then you can stop. Who was one of the first countries to provide on site rescue and medical assistance in Haiti Stop after you say Israel. Where on earth can Arab members of a government speak out against the country Stop after you have said Israel (Just try this in Iran or Syria,) Thank G-D for the freedoms that Israel has to offer. Just ask those who escaped from Darfur who are non Jewish and living in Freedom in Israel
27. Let's face it: denying Shoa or being "critical" of evident
tom ,   tel aviv   (12.22.12)
truth will get your name in the spotlight (if even for a moment) AND your fellow European, intellectual monkeys will applaud you loudly. What it is, that turns otherwise highly educated individuals into a sorry spectacle of self-hating antisemites is probably beyond the scope of science. This phenomenon seems to be a sole property of the Jewish tribe. Could the countless years of persecution have anything to do with it? Hmmmmmmm...... We have to live with it, but be careful not to expose young children & pets to their influence!
28. Ask the necessary questions
John   (12.22.12)
The article is fine for an opinion piece but what wasn't asked were the necessary questions: What has BDS really accomplished? Has Israel had to alter policy because of BDS? Answers are not much and no.
29. Academic boycot
Salvator Eskenazi ,   Türkey   (12.22.12)
Excellent written , we have to act together to block this Real danger of delegitimisation .
30. Israeli academicians suffer from isolation and criticism.
Michael ,   California, USA   (12.22.12)
At universities and among their peers overseas Israeli intellectuals are criticized and in isolation unless they come out with strong condemnation of their country's policies. Israeli intellectuals feel obligated to put distance between themselves and the rightist government back home. If the Israeli government was isolated less in the world, Israeli intellectuals would be received with less criticism and not in need to defend themselves all the time. It was much better before Likud came to power and may still change. The solution is in the hands of the voter.
