ben   (12.22.12)
Israel's denial of the Armenian Genocide. Will that get Israel's name in the spotlight. or get mentioned on Fox news 500 million times like Iran and the Holcaust.
33. # 26 you forgot to mention the Arab man in prison
ben   (12.22.12)

34. #19 Nina
Madeleine ,   Israel   (12.22.12)
Get a lilfe, can't you? do you really believe that Tel Aviv was built on Palestinian land. Go read history. Actually, the only people who chased them out in 1948 were their own Arab brethren who told them to get out of the way of their invading armies and go to their brothers in Lebanon, syria and Jordan who would welcome them with open ars, and that within 3 days they could return to a successfully conquered Israel free of the Jews. Well none of that happened, their Arab brethren not onlydidn't welcome them, they tuck them in camps where they keep them as political pawns to this day. They ran away, left their h omes despite the Israeli government's plege that they wouldn't be harmed. So, tough, you relinquished your rights. At the same time over 800,000 Jews were forced out of Arab countries leaving with nothing. Look at what we did for them compared with the plight of those Arabs who fled to neighbouring countries. You are just another brainwashed idiot.
35. #34 madelaine - excellent post. kol ha'kavod!
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.22.12)
36. How's this for a boycott...
Mychal ,   TN, USA   (12.22.12)
Students should quit going to these professors' classes. And if the class is absolutely required for a major, and there's not alternative professor, then write a protest letter to the University saying that you do not want to take this person's class because of their strong anti-Israeli rhetoric, which does not foster a good classroom environment or teacher-student relationship. Then ask if they can appoint a different professor, allow you to take the class at another university, or substitute a different class for the academic requirement. They almost certainly will not do any of those things, but they will be on notice that the students object to the professor's behavior. If class attendance is down as well, they will eventually be forced to take action. A university is a business and it has to try and please its customers--the students. If a professor or professors can't keep butts in chairs and is actively driving people away, then tenure be damned; they'll find a way to force him or her out.
37. Nina #19 in NYC- you big hypocrite
Chief Pontiac ,   USA   (12.22.12)
The US murderd over 50 million narive American 'Indcians' taking over the USA, stole Hawaii from its people and lawful government. You squat on native owned land whose people are dead ...but that is ok for you and you say nothing of it. Return Georgia and Tennessee to the Crow and Cree; return New Mexico, Arizona to the Navajo and Hopi - and rest of US to the natives. And get out of your home and give it to a native you racist hypocrite
38. #30- Israelis vote for whom they want - that is democracy
Abraham ben Jacob ,   Canada   (12.22.12)
So Israelis should vote for leaders and governments that the World will approve of ? In this line of reasoning, if Israel had the " correct World approved " government then everyone will be happy and everyone will love Israel ? And Israeli educators and " intellectuals" will feel less isolated in the World ? This is not logical reasoning. This sort of reasoning comes from people who have low self esteem and have a lack of pride in their own country and it's leaders.
39. 'Silence those who oppose free speech!
Joseph ,   London UK   (12.22.12)
Even here in London most of the boycott Israel efforts are led by 'Israeli academics' or other Jews who hate Israel. This is where secular zionism in place of religious zionism has led.
40. I agree with you 100%
dan ,   China   (12.22.12)
41. They sleep fine because there are no direct
AK   (12.23.12)
Repercussions - they don't loose their job at the Israeli University, nobody point a finger at them making them a persona non grata, nobody openly condemns their actions. Today it is very safe to be anti- Israel/ anti-Semitic, even for the Jews. Of cause, what will they do if the boycotts win? What will they do if they loose the country? I think they do not teach Jewish history to the Jews e en if Israel, otherwise they would know that every wonderful place in the diaspora could easily change into hell in a blink of an eye.
42. why not write in hebrew so the majority of Israelis will be
(12.23.12)
able to read and comment on this article? I mean, the writer is a student in TAU, he must know Hebrew

44. Academics, liberals & feminists always been a problem
zionist forever   (12.23.12)
Academics they think they are well learned they as educated people who are not politicians and of course they love to lecture. They have all the answers nobody else does and if we either adopt their ideas or be punished like naughty children. Liberals the think the right has got it all wrong, they think the left has got it all wrong but they are not quite sure what is the solution so they mix right & left wing policies together and call it liberalism. Feminists are always looking for a new conflict to fight in the name of women's rights. That Women of the Wall group don't care about religion, they just want to turn it into the next women's rights issue. God obligated men to do certain things but did not ask women to do them so this is not fair and now the feminists have to make God understand there must be equality in religion. Feminists are traditionally left wing and confrontational so they make ideal people to champion the palestinians and I am sure add women's issues into it somewhere. I would love to see a three way debate between academics, liberals and academics on how to solve the problem
45. NINA #19: is there any hope for you?
Brant ,   Hilton Head USA   (12.23.12)
Nina; Is it too much to hope that you would actually read some history and learn the realities of what happened; as opposed to simply spouting doctrine. The jews' rights to the land; their roots and continuity on it, have endured far longer than the Arabs.. In the modern times that obviously constitute the only history that matters to you, Israel fought Aran armies in 1948 and 1967; not "Palestinians" . Egypt and Jordan occupied the "Palestinians" from 1948 to 1967 but there was nop Palestinian state created and none demanded. Please study the history of the hundreds of thousands of Arabs of the former British mandate who did not run away in 1948; who were not displaced in 1948 but remained and have vibrant communities throughout the Galillee and around Jerusalem. Your vindictive ideology is dishonest.
46. #42 This is the English version of Hebrew newspaper, Yediot.
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.23.12)
I'm sure if you look at the Hebrew version, there will be even more articles (probably this one as well), with more commentary.
47. 19
zionist forever   (12.23.12)
How do you sleep at night knowing your home was built on land where Oneida Indians once lived ? How many millions of natives were displaced so white men could have the United States? As a result of an arab war of aggression about 600,000 arabs were displaced the majority not driven out by the Jews as the Israel bashers would have us all believe. The Haifa Histadrut even encouraged the arabs not to leave. The arab states where Jews had lived for centuries forcibly expelled all their Jews. Israel took in Jewish refugees from the arab world but the arabs refused to take in the arab refugees who were created as a result of the war. Israel is not perfect but compared to Americans and the arabs we are angels.
48. Correct and courageous
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (12.23.12)
This correct and courageous statement hopefully will not cost its author in his own career.
49. How do you sleep at night?
Basil ,   Seoul   (12.24.12)
In the end, Harjo after reading about the issues has questions about Israel's human rights record, but I see no mention of Israel's human rights record and how it treats the people under its control, so how is that you sleep at night before casting stones at others in your article?
50. # 30They should all resign
joseph ,   Australia   (12.24.12)
In my company if I have staff that is not performing, the first thing I will do is to fire them. If these pampered Academics cannot in all respects stand the heat, nothing is stopping them from resigning. I also know of many people who refuse to fund the Universities in Australia because of their blatant attitude. I am holding my breath.
51. Only a few million Jews
Zircon   (12.24.12)
There only a few million Jews so if the Islamic world wants to stay intact they better take in the five million Palestinians and accept that the Palestinians are Arab and Islamic and take them in as their kinfolk.
52. #49 basil - correct
solomon ,   bklyn   (12.24.12)
But add to your question of how Israel treats people "under its control" (a phrase you should define, as gaza's government is Hamas and the WB government is the PA, neither under anyone's "control"), you should also question how Israel treats people who are sworn to wipe it out and kill all Jews. Do they feed them? Do they supply electricity? Do they treat their enemies in their hospitals (including their leaders)? (Hint: the answer to all the above is 'yes'.)
53. Israeli Academics
Robert Yufe ,   Toronto Canada   (12.24.12)
Scratch beneath the surface and you will find "academics" whose work is second rate, left the country because of their failure and are not respected by anyone in their academic field. This is their way of achieving international recognition and paying back the Institution that deemed their academia second rate.
