2. Not getting attacked by nuclear weapons is a "green" issue
The problem is that the parties that have the clearest records on on environmental issues also have a horrible record in protecting Israelis from terrorism.
In addition, in the middle of a global economic crisis, voters weight economics higher than the environment.
This does not mean that the environment is unimportant; it just means that emphasizing the link between environment and economy is the best way to boost its weight at the polls right now.
As for security, parties that want better environmental results need to consider whether their positions in other areas have made them unable to connect to the mainstream. In that case, they need to stop considering themselves to be parties and start lobbying for their issue instead.
