The sanctions are hurting Iran's society and economy deeply. It is not a pretty thing; ordinary people, like you and me, suffer. But if the sanctions can get Iran back to the negotiations table, and if Iran and the West can then make an acceptable deal, then it is worth it. Because who knows what will happen when a war is begun? Look at Iraq and Afghanistan. Did the wars there lead to desirable outcomes? Think about Israel's occupation of Southern Lebanon; what good did that bring? Nothing but it did help to grow and strengthen Hezbollah. Some things cannot be solved by war. Iran's desire for a nuclear weapon may well be such a thing.
