Germany can stop doing Israel favours now. Enough is enough, and the time is right for both sides to move on.

It is a heavily modernised version of the Type 209 and has a low acoustic signature, certainly compared to the bigger nuclear submarines but it is not and was never designed to be a stealth submarine. Whilst we have our nice shiny subs we should not neglect the surface fleet which the men with the money have always done. The 3 SAAR 5 missile boats are the most modern in the fleet and they are 20 years old now and the others being even older. The navy is decommissioning ships that are past their service life and not replacing them with anything new but outside the navy all anybody seems to be interested is the much more glamorous submarines. Time to share the military budget more evenly so we don't have the air and ground forces getting the lions share every year with the navy getting the leftovers.

Israel can be justifyingly proud it has submarines and fine professional crews, but there is a limit as to what they can achieve. With the biggest threats to Israel being a nuclear Iran, Hezbollah's missle armoury and some volatile neighbours, the bulk of the defence spending must stay with the air force, the missle units and the army so that in the event of attack Israel is able to defend itself and deliver the appropriate response.
