bigoted! But they have great reason to be bigots against the bigot regime in turkey!
2. Sayin Egemen Bagis:
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (12.31.12)
You say that "Today there is no government in Europe which is more reformist than our government," and yet there are still close to 100 journalists at Silivri jail kept there with no bail, no real charges, no real right for defense and falsified and planted evidences (as we have seen in the ODA TV case) . Mr. Bagis: Passing laws in the TBMM does not make reform if these laws are ignored and not carried away. Today the human right abuses in Turkey are worse than ever and worse than China. An elected representative from CHP a world recognized doctor organ transplant surgeon Professor Haberal is still in Silivri Jail. Mr. Bagis: The uneducated, fatalist 50% of the Turkish population might buy your fantasies but the EU and the rest of the world, the educated Turks are not buying.
3. Get to the point!
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (12.31.12)
France, Germany and most other EU countries do not want eighty million Muslims allowed to freely enter Europe and the European job market. To most Europeans Muslims are potential terrorists and therefore unwanted in Europe. Less than five percent of Brits are Muslims and about eight per cent of French are Muslims.
4. The muslim party of which erdogan leads
Observing ,   world   (12.31.12)
wishes to push for greater influence in europe...islamization of increasing returns every year.
5. A Big NO!!!!! Until 2023,2033,2043 just NO to Turkey in EU
Anna M Sedda ,   Rome-Italy   (12.31.12)
Turkey in in Asia, not in Europe..!!!! Turkey is in the "half moon area",a continent so far from EU ....keep dreaming...
6. Just what reforms are they talking about?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (12.31.12)
The ones where they imprison anybody for saying anything the Edrogan doesn't like? Or the entire military staff? Or the invasion and occupation of Cyprus, Kurdish Iraq? The blockade of Armenia? The theft of more churches? The aid given to Iran? Their support for terrorism? Just exactly what reforms are they whining about anyway?

dear anna pick up a map and search for cyprus then read your post again:) Eus bias this time works on favour of turkey, for its not in the long term interest of the country to joın the block
8. Anton it depends what is 'long term'
David Israel ,   New York, USA   (01.01.13)
When I was young in early 1960 ies it was for the best of Turkey's long term goals to join the EU. The application was made but EU was not very eager to accept Turkey. Today you say it is not 'long term interest'. Maybe you think this due to the so called booming Turkish stock market. Here is a question to you? How much of your money did you invest in IMKB stocks? As far as I know most of the shares are owned by foreign investors - or Turks investing from oversees bank accounts - The US economy is slowly but surely returning back to normal. Unemployment numbers were around 7% which is very promising, there is quiet work done to make USA OIL independent by 2020 and exporter by 2030. As this recovery builds up (which already started to show results) these foreign investors including Turks investing from their foreign account will find US companies attractive and safer then Turkey. Guess what will happen at that time?

Turkey is suffering the long process initiated by Erdogan: Bullying Israel Siding by Hamas No stopping the flottilla Harrassing the neighbors Cyprus Armenia Silence in Syria when ambassador is still there after Syrian bombed the border As you see Turkey has lost all credibility Keep up the good work and keep crying for the consecuences
11. PM Erdogan ..
ben zeev ,   be olam   (01.01.13)
and his islamic party grip on power is doing one step forward , two steps back dance for a real democratic Turkey to be opened for serious reforms. The war on the kurdish rights , doesn't help ether or real freedom of the press being minimized, no much to offer Europe in any regard.
12. Turkey and EU
mimi jacques ,   oob,usa   (01.01.13)
Turkey is No. 1 in journalists' imprisonment- minorities have no equal rights (language, culture, advancement in society- Kurds,Armenians,Alawis,Orthodox Christians etc.) confiscation of properties-Jewish,Armenian,French Hospital from Turko-Russian War,Vatican, and other minorities. Kurds suffering in Turkey where PM Erdogan did not allow aid in earthquake-housing. Drone attack on Turkish Kurds mislabeling them PKK terrorists.Inmumerable sorties into Iraq/Kurdistan decimating Kurds as PKK. Cyprus-invasion to back ethnic Turks on Cyprus. PM Erdogan's party gerrymandering election districts- Islam teaching at schools/mandatory in vocational ones-headscarves - tried to remove Ataturk's statue in Istanbul/Istanbul Mayor so far refusing- biggesr mosque in Istanbul on Bosporus planned- state interfering with judiciary, academia, armed forces' show trials (Sledgehammer,Erdonok)- constitutional separation of powers (Erdogan's latest impeding checvks and balances)Iran trading- bullying France not to pass laws re;Armenian Genocide- no public drinking (stiff penalties)- honor killings- raped women marriages to rapists. EU is not medieval- EU is the debate society trying to enact laws for behavior/climate/bread ingredients/cheese designations/being the EU Congress in Brussels /always blaming Israel for building homes or accrediting universities. EU also remembers PM Erdogan being the bully boy at UN/NYC fistfighting UN security personnel.
13. naivete is dead
StevieT ,   USA   (01.01.13)
Maybe this bigotry charge would have flown before 9/11, the pivotal moment that brought the Worlds attention to the Koran and its bigoted content. Does Mr. Erdogan follow the Koran? Case closed, game, set and match.
14.  Ataturk and Erdogan
Shish-kebab ,   USA   (01.01.13)
Turkey wants to join the EU by 2023? Ataturk has established Turkey envisioning it as a democratic, progressive country where religion is thoroughly separated from the State. Erdogan reversed all Ataturkian principles. Contemporary Turkey aspires to become a second Ottoman Empire, a fundamentalist islamic caliphate. It has no place among civilized nations. It has no place in EU or NATO.
15. # 7 - The EU has the right
Yaara ,   Israel & Czech Rep.   (01.01.13)
The EU has the right to decide who they want to join the EU. You do not have an automatic right just because og your position on the map.
16. the illegal occupation must end
zionist forever   (01.01.13)
Turkey is still illegally occupying Cyprus which is a member of the EU. How can Turkey be granted membership of the EU if it occupies one of its members? Erdogan is just having another of his tantrums he is so famous for when he doesn't get his own way. I don't know why though he is seeking full EU membership because once he gets it things are going to become a an expensive bureaucratic nightmare (it will cost Turkey millions each year). Turkey will have to give up alot of its powers to the EU, some major others trivial ones which will annoy the hell out of the ordinary people. Fact is these days EU membership can be more trouble than its worth but once your in there is no getting out because of the economic & political backlash.
17. Erdogan - the dog that barked when Israel / Gaza clashed
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (01.01.13)
Now he's getting bitten and doesn't like it. Maybe he should try some wisdom and realize - that you get what you give.
18. #7 anton
Albrecht Klein ,   Germany   (01.01.13)
Which part of "we don't want you in EU" do you not understand?
19. Anton #7
Thessalonian ,   Canada   (01.03.13)
You wrote, "Eus bias this time works on favour of turkey, for its not in the long term interest of the country to joın the block." This statement may be your opinion Anton, but does not reflect your compatriots sentiments. It does however conform to Aesop's "sour grapes" tale. By the way, unless Turks get out of Cyprus, there will be no EU membership regardless of all other factors which also negatively affect this equation. See you at HDN's forum. Regards
