The city of Aleppo has 2,1 million dwellers, as Damascus only 1,8. It reflects well, that invented Syria is an artifical state. If once Aleppo is larger, why the capital is Damascus ? French and british colonialists were bad pupils in geography when they created Syria after the Ottoman Empire collapsed. A very logical provisional solution would be to divide Syria into a northern part, with Aleppo of alavites and a southern one with Damascus of sunnis. Immediate independence for 2 million kurds ! Seems to me that the current situation has resulted in much more damage to Syrian population and infrastructure than the state of belligerence between Syria and Israel in 65 years. Ultimately, it amazes me that Syria can still feed itself as I cannot understand how a distribution system is still working. Contrary to what I have read, I feel that the UN has done very well so far to prevent the war spilling over to its neighbours. How they will prevent the WMDs falling into the hands of terrorist organisations is yet to be seen.

Answer is simple, the regime has murdered those civilians its has detained all those months early...and people wonder why Syrians are flipping he'll bent to tear Assad to pieces. What else explains UN ability to state with some certainty it knows the vast majority of the numbers of dead. It because the dirty secret is the Ba'athists have executed tens of thousands of civilians it has held in detention since this revolt began in 2011. Would not be surprised to find out many of them where flown to iran to be executed.
