i really and honestly fail to see how israel's position id precarious according to you. each and every day, another country in europe, in africa, in latin america and in the balks does robust trade and research and development projects with israel. they need israeli knowhow and technology and all scientific inventions of these most brilliant nation, the jews. hameed aboughaze, iranian

One lesson that Jews have learned all too well is that the State of Israel and the People Israel stand alone. Our so-called "friends" tend to be fair-weather friends, and turn their heads just as they did during the Holocaust. But the Jews have been restored to their homeland, and no one -- but NO ONE -- will change that. We can manage without "friends." We're not at all afraid of our enemies, but our "friends" we fear greatly. For good reason.

Before the advent of Islam there were large Christian populations due to the Roman Empire. However, in the past few hundred you are quite correct, they never were a majority and in fact while Jews fared much better in the Maghreb, than Christians did. I hope this helps put the authors point in perspective and I hope that Byzantine/roman empire period is what the author was referring to when he made mention of Christianity being a majority in certain North African countries.

and you are one ignorant dude my friend. you can continue to hate, but your hateful feelings must never be translated into self serving lies on your part. and please, do answer the man/woman who in her post asked you to provide proof of the atrocities you claim israel does to arab christians and their churches. i believe this also is part of your fantasy world. any proof my friend? i am waiting for you to give me one proof as to your claims as well. hameed aboughaze, iranian

ha! yes, i googled it. some obscure rabbi no one pays attention to ripped some pages from the koran this past year. first time this happened in israel. i wouldn't consider this an atrocity or the kind of lack of freedom of speech or crimes against humanity that arab muslims practice on their christian populations. it is amazing how an ignorant imbecile such as yourself would take one idiotic incident that no one even cared about and do a sweeping brush stroke to mean that israel practices this kind of attitude towards christian arabs. now, why don't you google the church of the sepulcher (an arab christian church in the old city of jerusalem) incidence where arab suni islamist terrorists ran into to hide from the israeli army, stayed there in that church, killed a priest., robbed all the food and USED THE NEW TESTAMENT BIBLE PAGES AS TOILETTE PAPER WHEN THEY DEFECATED. THEY ALSO DESTROYED THE CHURCH! now, this is what i call christian persecution and disrespect of their institutions and bibles. you see, unlike you, i can substantiate my claims as fact. you on the other hand are an idiot. hameed aboughaze, iranian

"The Christian part of the population has decreased everywhere in the region, but nowhere else has it decreased as drastically as in Israel. We can discuss the reasons if we want, but those are facts we cannot deny. " Actually we can deny - why because you are a liar. The only country in the entire Middle East where the Christian population has INCREASED is Israel - everywhere else it has in fact declined. So yes we can dispute that and call you a liar
40. Christians in the Middle East
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (01.04.13)
The Imams call for "Death to the Jews" and "Death to the Christians". And, of course, death to infidels, death to any who might leave Islam for another religion, death to women who are accused of committing adultery, death to homosexuals. And, of course, it is perfectly all right for a Muslim to kill his wife or daughter if he feels that they have tarnished his honor. Islam makes no apologies for its practices. It is the Western leaders who keep saying that Islam is the religion of love. And Christians, like Jews, are recipients of that love.
41. To #7: I agree with you BUT
Sephardic Jew ,   Sefarad (Spain)   (01.04.13)
The persecutions, the crusades, the inquisition... are the past. You can't blame the Christians for what their ancestors did. Do you want a people who has nothing to do with that to apologize? Really? The Catholic Church apologized.

...How about visiting Israel and not read garbage... sorry to disappoint you I was born there and there is no Israel bashing here, just the plain truth the Haredim are no better than the Islamist, no tolerance
43. To: No. 41
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.04.13)
The Roman Catholic Church has NEVER apologized. In point of fact, the official papal bulls (and now I know why they are called that) have always steered well clear of even referring to the State of Israel. They always only refer to the "Holy Land." By the way -- can I blame the present-day Swiss, who continue to refuse to honor fully paid up life insurance policies taken out by desperate Jews in the 1930s? Or do you think that the trillions of dollars (with interest and penalties) owed to Jews since 1945 is part of the past, too? The Roman Catholic Church was complicit in the death of millions of Jews in the Holocaust and, if you wish to go back further, the Roman Catholic Church was complicit in the death of hundreds of millions of Jews. That is easily documented and proven fact. Seems to me that anyone calling themself a Roman Catholic today is equally complicit in the death of Jews. There is no statute of limitation upon murder.

45. Christians versus Palestinians
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (01.04.13)
The Christian world seems obsessed with the plight of the Palestinians, kept in refugee camps by their fellow Arabs, while amazingly quiet about the persecution of fellow Christians who are persecuted throughout the Middle East, aside fom Israel, where the number of Christians continues to rise. The Palestinians, beloved of the European Left, persecute Christians in Gaza and the West Bank, where even Bethlehem has lost its Christian majority.
46. Israel versus the Islamic world
Danny ,   London England   (01.04.13)
In Islamic countries including the PA a Muslim who converts to Christianity can be executed. Yet the Europeans criticise Israel, where Christians are equal, while keeping quiet about the Islamic treatment of Christians in the Arab world and Iran.
47. #12: a 400% increase!
Igor ,   Germany   (01.04.13)
According to numerous easy-to-google sites, the Christian population in Israel has increased from 34,000 in 1948 to 150,000 today.
48. To N 43, Sarah B
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (01.04.13)
Mr's Sarah B. Excuse me, but you must reduce your hate against my religion and my church. It hurts me, as a true friend of Israel and of Jewish people. Listen, please: 1) "Holy Land" is a religious expression, not political. Israel is recognized by Vatican. 2) John Paul II, in 2000, apologized for the terrible sins committed against your people. Also before, in 1965, II Vatican Council abolished all bad references, about Jews, into the prayers. 3) It is erred to say that Roman Catholic Church was complicit in Holocaust. Remember several priests, like Saint Maximilian Kolbe, that choose to die in order to hide and protect Jews from Nazist rule. 4) We, Sons and Daughters of Abraham, need to act together for a better world. Our God is the same.
49. To N 7, Ben Jabo
Luiz F Haddad ,   Niteroi, Brazil   (01.04.13)
Brother Ben Jabo. For us, true and renewed Christians, Judaism is much important. Jesus was a Jew, like Virgin Mary and the Disciples. We do repudiate the terrible crimes committed against your people during past times, under ignorant and stupid clerical authorities. But remember that nowadays all of it has been erased. We have to be united for a better world. Old divisions, old prejudices, are appreciated by our enemies; the ones which want Israel's destruction and a Middle East ruled by oppressive radical entities, absolute kings and ruthless dictators. There are lights after the shadows. I salute you.
50. Some distinctions must be made
James ,   Netherlands   (01.04.13)
about Christianity in relation to Jews and Israel. First, most Christians fall into one of three categories: A. Roman Catholic, B. Some brand of Orthodox churches (Russian, Syrian, Coptic, Greek, ...) C. Protestants. Roman Catholics and Orthodox believers have not been very friendly towards Jews and Israel, generally speaking. However, many protestants truly support Israel and Jews in general. But here a second distinction must be made. Protestants fall into two groups: Bible-believing/conservative on the one hand and liberal/modern on the other hand. Of these it is only the first group, Bible-believing/conservative that supports Israel. The fact that the numbers of this group in the USA are much higher than in Europe, explains in large part why the USA is more friendly to Jews and Israel than is Europe.

i as an israeli jew agree with you. some people like sarah, though intelligent, have a hard time forgiving maybe becuae they lost their entire family in the holocaust and it is known that christian persecution of jews was horrendous. so, we also need to understand sarah b's feelings here even htough she needs to tone it down and also comprehend that christians today, a lot of them, are supporting jews and israel everywhere around the world. but, i agree with you about what you said here in your post. thank you sir. a lot, for your support and kindness to israel and jews everywhere.

56. 50 - Catholics and Orthodox believers have not been
split ,   US   (01.05.13)
Maybe because they got to know them better than other faiths - By the way my friend Jews got expelled from 2 Catholic countries guess where from the rest of the expulsions took place? ,... "numbers of this group in the USA are much higher than in Europe" - Europe have 2000 years less than great experience of co-existence with them US less than 100 years with numbers close to 2 %, prior to that despite insignificant numbers not good and not getting any better today for the same reason they got kicked out from 109 countries and places since 250 AD.
57. Show your true colours!
FI   (01.05.13)
16# Said, don't worry - non-believer Christians do not really care and the Western leftists also love their new pets; radical Islamists! But still at least true Christian believers should care - and also support Israel! It must be sometimes hard for Palestinian Christians, but "love your neighbor! - and "enemies" too (= so even prize tag -vandals!) And re-established Israel - that is God's will! Also our Christ as a man lived among Jews. And remember Palestinian Christians - that our only true kingdom is the kingdom of heaven! When some Palestinian Christians seems to share the same opinions than those radical Islamists - then it is no wonder if some Israeli Jews do not like or trust you. So show your true colours! And remember that after Saturday comes Sunday and taqiyya is easy - I would not trust any Abbas-Mashaals based on their opinions and acts. But still, Christians should love Muslims too. And Said, remember that Christianity and Judaism are older than Islam - so in practise, Jews and also Christians have been everywere before Muslims! And some of your ancestors may have Jewish or Christian roots too. It seems that Christians have no future in Muslim countries anymore - so leave before it is too late! But those who choose to stay are very brave!
58. What about Messianic Jews?
FI   (01.05.13)
Muslims, and especially radical Islamists - are not so kind to their own Muslim brothers either. This radicalication and islamization seems to mean that Muslims kill Muslims too, more and more. And if the Muslims are not safe how could the minorities be! Do some Palestinian Christians really believe that there will be room for them in a Palestinian Islamistic regime? Just remember those motorcycle boys in Gaza. Or are some of them just so angry to the Israeli Jews that they do not care - if there will just another "Talebanistan" - where they cannot live? Think also how many Muslims from Muslim countries are now living in Western countries as a refugee. But many Israeli Jews do not accept Messianic Jews at all, even though they are totally Jews from Christian point of view - just like the non-Jew Christians are not Jews, but gentiles! Their situation is sometimes even harder than Palestinians. And maybe that is why Israel as a state protects even Palestinian Muslims and their rights more than Messianic Jews. That is the real tabu in Israel!

60. True of American Jews too. Protecia wipes out competition.
Josh   (01.08.13)
This article lies through its teeth. Islamization is not the only one. Fact is that there should be a level of pride and credit taken by the Jewish religious leaders in their ability to cull their own from the influence of other religions. Most aliyah ends in failure and that is because in the Middle East they will work to make exclusive reign. There is oppression. Ask a convert. You shall not harm the convert. Sarcasim should be noted.
