2. How about burkas for 3 year olds and be done with it ?
Then surely the good rabbi will be able to control is sexual desires.
3. 'her gown is interwoven with gold.'
How does this fit with his ruling that women must avoid gold or silver cloth? Some Haredim use the age of nine for a girl to observe the details of dressing modestly. The age of three is very Chasidisch; seven is a new one for me. 40 denier is lenient, many consider 60 denier correct. As a male I must admit I have no idea how to assess .denier'. It's worth mentioning that H M The Queen's skirts often have a weight in the skirts' hems to avoid her skirt blowing in the wind. One of her designers said she always sits down to see how a dress looks, whether her skirt will properly cover her knees, before she wears it. I can't recall any of her skirts having a slit. Most of her hats cover almost all her hair.

4. Imam Ayatollah Shlomo Aviner
He is absolutely correct and its time to adhere to islamic religious rules. His modesty rules are clear and explicitely pointed out in the Quran and Shariah.
According to his policy, Israel must bow to dhimmy rules anyway.

5. I was trying to keep tsniut, but this?
I give up. This is me who keeps a kosher home, me who keeps taharat hamishpacha, me who keeps more and more every year.
But Rabbi, reign in the men, we are not in a Muslim state. Get them to keep their eyes to themselves. I will now be perfectly comforable in my jeans and short-sleeved T-shirt. When you go too far you turn thousands of us right off. And my husband will look at the chicks in the street if I cover up like you say, not at me!

6. What does this Rabbi have against G-ds creation?
Why is this Rabbi insulting G-d by hiding his creation?
It is bad enough to misuse his leniency in observational rules as being the same as a prohibition.
How about between his ears? Doesn't he have anything better to do than issue edicts for 3-year-olds? What really bothers me about this is that some people take him seriously.
9. Nr. 3
But a hat certainly must not cover pubic hair?

10. From diapers straight to burka
why not? but first wash it.

11. Hungry bashers eat old news.
Haredi girls are dressed like that since long ago.
12. 4 If the Arab population in Israel...
will outnumber the Jewish population, you will sowieso have to follow the Shariah. That will not happen thanks to the Haredi big families.
I think that Reb Aviner must be channeling Mr Blackwell's evil twin.......
14. how can this be?
the learned rabbi seems to have collected the most extreme "rules" that have been made by others. but halakha isn't always about the strictest possible application of rules in any other area. rather, it is about rules that (imperfect) humans can live with, and minhag that has developed over centuries.
god did not command any of these rules (there is no specific prohibition of wearing red in the torah), and it was not the minhag 1,000 years ago (we have colour drawings of medieval jewish women).
and i doubt that this learned rabbi has ever tried to wear the clothing that he prescribes, in the heat of an israeli summer. he should wear pantyhose for a month, before dictating what is "modest" for jewish women.
15. Another fatwa, issued by a rabbl accountable to no one,
micro-managing the lives of the people who lack the common sense and good critical judgment to actually follow what he orders. This is not Judaism, but something else. The cult of the Haredim will be the downfall of Israel. Due to their high growth rates, the Haredim will reach a point where they will turn Israel into a theocracy. People, WAKE UP! These rabbis are only interested in power and control. This has nothing to do with religion. They are using Judaism only as the platform for their cult.
16. Ora , if they are dressed this way
since long ago , why has this aviner to open his mouth ?
17. No,do not mock these rullings because the rabbi is RIGHT!
If all women-included children-dressed modestly and followed such rules,I can assure that the number of rapes and sexual absurds that we have seen ,would diminish A LOT!
That´s a natural,obvious fact.
18. to n.5 Maya
So if all the chicks starts walking around naked, you will too, just so your husband looks at you and not at them?

19. 16 Charles,good question.
20. # 17
Keren, that is a discusting comment. You blame girls for being raped and harassed. A woman has the right to dress as she pleases, and how she dresses is not your business.

21. cross dresser
How does this man know so much about women clothing? Hmm.. my view he wears frilly red knickers under all that black.
22. Shoot the Messenger
Aviner has done nothing more (or less) than synthesize the existing codes as observed by Orthodox Jews
23. The Shlaviner and his Fatwah
is following his own personal understanding of something called "modesty". It is not necessarily a halachic rule, on the contrary. He is bending and twisting his own rules to make himself more important then he is.
Susya Bar Dror ,
24. 17: If boys and girls, and men and
women were permitted to mix snd interact to develop needed interpersonal skills, perhaps the incidence of sexual child abuse within the haredi community would be much less. Use your own common sense and good critical judgment before believing everything these rabbis say.
25. Why is Rabbi Shlomo Aviner and his ilk so afraid of women?
And why are women so afraid of their 'G-d' given power?
Excelent! Now we need to deputize squads of Talibanchiks to run around with rulers, measuring the length of ladies' skirts and making sure that their fabrics are not on the forbidden list.
27. All these modesty rules are artificial
The Torah does not even prohibit premarital sex, and I'm sure there was lots of it, and lots of "immodesty" in Israelite times.
It's only these rabbis who took it upon themselves to drastically interpret the laws with their own strict views of what is right and moral. It's time we start seriously questioning these rabbis over their rulings.
28. Keren if you'd shut up then the world would go better
29. Rabbi issues modesty rules
The major reason for all these modesty rules cast on women is the weakness and failure of the haredi guys to control temptation.
David Shichor ,
30. The greatest Jewish Rabbi, Yeshua of Nazareth said women
should not wear braided hair or pearls or gold or costly garments. Braided hair was too fancy.
