61. Unhealthy obsession with women
Glen ,   Tel Aviv   (01.07.13)
Aren't these creatures supposed to be spending their days and nights buried in torah books rather than contemplating and obsessing - most unhealthy - on women's clothing? And they're actually miffed that they've been compared with fundamentalist Muslims!!
62. It's OBVIOUS that the purpose of this article is to bellitle
Riva ,   Israel   (01.07.13)
the main purpose of this article is to belittle this Rabbi and his practices! Notice that an advertisment with women wearing evening style low cut dresses just "happens" to be placed next to it! People that read ynet are not the type of people who follow his guildlines, but at least, we owe this Rabbi respect!
63. we owe this rabbi respect
iselin ,   Oslo, Norway   (01.08.13)
Respect for what? For sexualizing 3-year-olds? I would be censored for calling him what I think he deserves to be called, but let's just say that he pays too much attention to things that shouldn't concern him.
64. #17
joemoer ,   israel   (01.08.13)
and i suppose we would also not have as many car accidents and floods and locusts what a lot of hog wash
65. #32
joemoer ,   israel   (01.08.13)
what a load of hogwash.....with your beliefs what are you doing reading this paper
66. Too many apples
Dan ,   Kefar Saba   (01.08.13)
This is what happens to a person who keeps eating forbidden fruit from the tree he should not eat from.
67. ORA, #34: Of course there is sexual abuse
Runner1983 ,   USA   (01.08.13)
of children in secular society. However, it seems to be more prominent in the haredi commnity, especially by rabbis, who abuse their position and trust - a sin! The haredi community is criticized for its detailed rules of dress, even for 3 year olds. Don't tell us that this is in natural! You need to do some introspective thinking about the way the haredi community defends accused child abusers and vilifies victims, the way victims are encouraged not to report the crime, the way the haredi community shuns and threatens those that do report. By not bringing the accused to justice in a civil court, you are enabling him to commit future crimes against children. This is not Judaism you are practicing, but something else.
68. rabbi acknowledges pedophilic tendencies
Tamar ,   Israel   (01.08.13)
It seems you are acknowledging the pedophilia in the Charedi community. Wow! There it is! Amazing how topical it is! You are also blaming women for the sickness among even many "religious" to sexually abuse. Wow, this is 2013 and this insensitive, albeit ignorant belief is clearly alive. So you teach young girls to cover up early? How do you explain the sexual abuse of boys? It is also known that not only among secular families, amongst religious families, there is abuse of boys--using bribes, secrecy, and where do the boys go for help when everyone Is focused on what the girls are wearing and blaming them? Modesty and respect is one thing. Rather than focusing on how much the woman should cover up, why not redirect the subject to educate the dominant perpetrators of abuse, the lustful, disrespectful behaviors of men toward covered and uncovered women. Because you cover the woman doesn't mean the sickness, the urge to overpower and abuse will go away. These so called "pious men", are often saying one thing and doing other things, no different than what happens in the secular commnity and nobody wants to deal with it honestly. Meanwhile, the behavior is perpetuated, until the female is blamed again for the male's biological weakness. Instead of teaching "fear the female", the community leaders should be teaching males how to respect the opposite sex regardless of "urges", not just in words, but in action, both in front of others and behind closed doors.
69. Rivkah, #31: The worst way to teach
Runner1983 ,   USA   (01.08.13)
boys to properly interface with girls is to keep them so separate that they do not develop the interpersonal skills to keep their hormones in check. I point to all of the sexual child abuse committed by haredi (including haredi rabbis) as proof that yours is a failed system. Are the practices within the secular society perfect? Of course not, but preferable to system that marginalizes women, strongly discourages reporting sexual abuse of children, and shuns those parents that do. You have drifted away from Jewish values.
70. 67 Things are changing...
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.08.13)
Thanks G-D more and more crimes are reported. Everything is not perfect in neither orthodox nor secular society.
71. #55 HS in Brooklyn
Ben ,   Chutzlaaretz   (01.08.13)
Rabbi, I would agree that much of our laws, are as you state are oral, and I abide by them, however, I find it wrong when respected members of the community, Rabbi Aviner in this case, add to to them what is in my opinion no-where to be found, not in written format or intended format. This isn't Torah Shebalpeh nor Halacha. It is simply his opinion as to how women should dress so that he can feel safe about the purity of his thoughts when he sees them. If his wife and daughters feel compelled to dress this way, than by all means, they should. but as his opinion carries significant weight, his commentary impacts large groups of people and in my opinion is damaging to klal Israel. I fully understand the concept of fence building out of caution, but I believe many in our faith take it too far and in the process alienate our own.
72. rabbi dress code for 3 year olds
emw1 ,   usa   (01.08.13)
This guys sounds like he's a pedophile. A dress code for 3 year olds so they cover their modesty? This is why ALL religion is evil.
73. ORA #70: Things are not changing fast enough.
Runner1983 ,   USA   (01.08.13)
Things will only change when you and your fellow religionists use your own commin sense and good judgment and ignore your rabbis when you feel you should. It appears that haredi rabbis are only interested in maintaining thier own power and control over people. This has nothing to do with religion. I call your attention to the case of rabbi Nechemya Weberman in Brooklyn, a so called "therapist" who was accused of sexually molesting a young girl, was charged with this crime, and was convicted by a jury a month ago. Weberman was a Satmar, and what the Satmar community did to this young girl and her family was despicable! Her family was threatened, shunned, and her father's business was boycotted. What is more disgraceful is that this is common within the community when a member is charged with this type of crime.
74. what goes around comes around
yael dvorah ,   north miami beach us   (01.09.13)
what goes around, comes around .... it was only a matter of time before some rabbi clamped down on this one ....it has become common to see women in orthodox synagogues with their cleavage showing, slit skirts that reveal almost to the crotch, and skirts so tight you couldn't get a finger in .... fashionable tznius has definitely been taken to a new low .... kol kavod for this rabbi finally addressing this troubling issue ..... Jewish women deserve real beauty, not fashion .....
75. 73 Want to see immediate results?
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (01.09.13)

76. #73: ORA: Guess you have no effective response
Runner1983 ,   USA   (01.09.13)
post about the dispicable and disgraceful actions of the Satmars. Their actions reflect on you.

So that a civil war is avoided. Unfortunately, I am afraid that is where Israel is headed.
