Better to learn Arabic to understand Israel's neighbors and enemies. Also better to learn Russian to understand the new Israelis, who are pragmatists and not afraid of hard work. Learning Yiddish is an academic endeavor with no practical use.

Israelis don't like iidish; when I was a teenager I wanted to learn it, but there were no teachers. Slowly, as a lot of people become disappointed with their alyah absorption and come back to their countries of origin (like me), maybe iidish might flourish again in the diaspora. It was the real language of our ancestors, every day usage, not Ivrit.
