1. unbelieable
elane ,   jerusalem   (01.09.13)
this story is hard to believe
2. Coward
Person ,   The World   (01.09.13)
When you do nothing, you concede. A real Israeli woman would have told these idiots on the bus to shut up, and probably would have beaten them all up too. Stand up for yourself against these religious fanatical freaks that are ruining the country on your dime, so that we can have less stories about people with no backbone getting hammered by other people with no backbone!
3. Although there is only one side of the story
Mark ,   London, UK   (01.09.13)
Bad behaviour seems to be very common in Israel. Haredim don't seem to be immune from it. They seem to carry a whole load of prejudice and are unaware, or unconcerned, how negatively it reflects upon them. I wonder whether it has anything to do with the climate and the general wear and tear of life in Israel.
4. Where are the rights for seculars ?
Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (01.09.13)
Nexr time when i'll see a charedi woman sitting in a bus , i will dafka sit next to her . My right !
5. A shame !
European Jew   (01.09.13)
Israel have to adress the growing treat caused by hareidi fanaticsm otherwise it will loose its very legitimization in the world. Those shamefull behaviour ha s to be stopped and offender put on trial..
6. The difference between this and Rosa Parks
Avi   (01.09.13)
Whites back then in the US saw them as inferior but only with a haredi mantra could it be the same situation AND spout "you're not respecting my rights". This incredible form of haredi entitlement, abuse and superiority is completely logical. Because along with their education that they're the "true jews" and we're all goyim, they're god's people, holy. They're told to keep their distance from anyone not haredi. They don't even read non haredi newspapers. This perception is only so greatly enhanced by the fact that this disgusting behavior and lifestyle is supported by the state with billions. So when a haredi kid learns he's holy and superior, and then sees an entire non haredi state give him billions and even exclude him from the army, a service everyone else does, he realizes what he does and learns is important because we, all the non haredi, give it legitimacy. Why wouldn't he feel entitled until 15 years later he throws women at the back of a bus, spits at them and yells "you're not respecting my rights"?
7. Will join the Be Free Israel facebook page
JustMe ,   Israel   (01.09.13)
It's not their bus and Israel is not going to be their Jewish version of Iran, no matter who funds their bus tickets.
8. Israel is a cruel society. Fail.

9. My 80 year old mum discovered that by flying on a Shabbat
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (01.09.13)
to or from Israel, she could avoid getting her ankles rammed by Chareidi trolleys - a given on week day travel. Sad but true.
10. to 2: NOT a coward!
Y ,   Israel   (01.09.13)
It sounds like this woman was in a hostile environment and she reacted in a safe--and brave way. She walked through the bus, not the back door. I'm not sure why you feel the need to judge this woman.
11. woman verbally abused by haredi passengers
Malka ,   Jerusalem Israel   (01.09.13)
This is a Hillul Hashem. The Haredim on this bus have forgotten that every jew is a part of a multi-faceted diamond. What's with the fashion sense? Stuyot! Love your Neighbour is the essense of the Torah Shame on you b'emet.
12. @2 u need 2 improve ur skills
(01.09.13)
you are incapable of judging here because you weren't there on the bus with this brave young woman.
13. bus
Louis ,   Holon   (01.09.13)
As a Christian living here in Israel, i wish this would have happened to me...
14. buses
caleb ,   israel   (01.09.13)
Every bus driver who does not uphold the laws in this regard should be fired or taken to court or both. When an incident like this happens he can also call the police to report harassment. Eventually the charedim will learn.
15. Invented story
Vlad ,   Jerusalem   (01.09.13)
Its only purpose is to fan the hostility towards religious Jews in such people like Charles (# 4). The left-wing parties need more votes at the forthcoming election. How to get them? By uniting people based on Charedi-hatred.
16. can you imagine
ky   (01.09.13)
a world in which they have power over peoples lives? Its no wonder our forefathers left the shetls. One of the reasons must have been to get away from them.

American Sabrah ,   Israel   (01.09.13)
I agree that politeness, ethics and decency are lacking in Israeli society. There seems to be no concept of good manners and consideration for others. Haredim and hilonim alike can be just as crass, self righteous, obsess with their authority and immature. Sometimes I wonder if I were foolish to come here. Rudeness seems to be part of this "culture". Whether someone is religious or not, adult or child, every time I see someone behaving badly in public, I almost feel that this person should use a good spanking. It turns me off to living here more and more. If you want people to be tolerant and accepting of you, then it would behoove you to reciprocate in kind. I also agree that the climate and environment may have some influence in the way people behave here. Either way, its shameful.
18. Haredim destroying Israeli society
Shlomo ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.09.13)
We look at countries like Saudi Arabia and Iran and all those Islamic states that suppress women and we shake our heads in disgust. Yet the same thing is happening here. But because our government is a democracy, it seems to blanket the radical Judaism issue that the haredim are practicing. These people (yes, THESE PEOPLE) are the biggest problem in this country. They don't pay taxes, they dont serve in the army and are a general nuisance. Their influence over law and government is disgusting and they should have NO VOICE in this country. Put them all in Judea and Samaria and let them rot. They contribute NOTHING to our society. They live in there own fantasy world with no respect for anyone else. Its embarrassing that our government allows and promotes this sort of segregation.
19. busdrivers help
chana avraham ,   Tel Aviv, Israel   (01.09.13)
the driver should have helped her, she couldnt even asked for help, being in the back of the bus and not allowed to go to the front. Egged should not allow this on public busses, if charedim want to travel like this, they should go by taxi or have own buslines
20. #15, this isn't the first or the 15th time we've heard this
Avi   (01.09.13)
What are you implying? That we didn't hear about this 15 times already in the last year? Or that women don't sit in the back? Or that shiksa isn't really a word? That it's not 'logical' for a haredi to do that in that situation? Don't bullshit us. The fact that you choose to assault the victim and defend this disgusting haredi behavior instead of condemning it is well noted.
21. Equal treatment begins with equal treatment
Jacob E ,   Holon, Israel   (01.09.13)
If women would like to be treated equally, they need to start by not taking any sh*t from the people giving it. Of course it is completely unacceptable what they were doing, but they will keep doing it until someone stops them. Everyone has rights and one of them is to stand up for themselves. Especially to idiots like this.

A good SPANKING ??? Interesting idea.................
23. She should have known better
Zalman ,   Yerushalaim   (01.09.13)
..........if she's telling the truth
24. A question to YNet:
Johnny ,   Israel   (01.09.13)
Why do you write only how Charedim attack the seculars and never how seculars attack Charedim? I've been living in Jerusalem for 25 years and never saw the situations like that described in the article but witnessed several times the opposite: Charedim, especially, children abused and spat on by non-religious people. In general, I think that this story is not true.
25. You know what? This has gone too far for too long.
Bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (01.09.13)
This isn't Judaism, this is parallel to Shira law! The driver is a liar the men and women acted like animals. Time to end this more than ignorant, abusive, embarrassing behavior by so called "Religious' Taliban methods. Sue their asses.
26. SEPERATE STATE & RELIGION NOW
Moi ,   Ta/A'dam   (01.09.13)
27. # 2 Person A real Israeli woman shouldn't have to
bad Assed Jew ,   United States   (01.09.13)
have 'beaten them up.' What should she have done other than carry a gun and threaten or shoot them? What is apparent is that the laws need to be changed and enforced on these brutes who use the public transportation system as their own self made hell for any unfortunate soul who happens to need to take the bus that doesn't meet with their 'approval.'
28. There Are None So Blind As Those Who Will Not See
Runner1983 ,   USA   (01.09.13)
Wake up citizens of Israel! Due the their high birth rates, the Haredim will only grow in power and influence. Upset by the rude and disgusting behavior by these Haredim on this bus and how they treated this woman, or how they treat little girls who do not meet their standards of modesty, just wait and see how bad it will get in the future. You are slowly loosing your country. Wake up!
29. to#8 Israel less cruel than Fwance
Arik ,   Hadera Israel   (01.09.13)
Where your french terrorist Merah assassinated Jewish children in Toulouse and the French don't care because they hate the Jews anyway. The story in the bus sounds too exagerated to be true, no witnesses?
