61. Peres
Brod ,   USA   (01.10.13)
Is he giving ideas to the dark forces? Shuting his mouth is better than trying to undermine Israel's government. He should stop being a tool of external forces trying to usurp Judea and Samaria-the Land of Israel from Israel. The fact is this world is not Heaven. There will always be violence and conflicts as seen in the murderous rampages and slaughter of school children in America by demon-possessed people hellbent on the pathway of destruction.
62. Re: claim in title...
Mitzi   (01.10.13)
...that's Peres's most ardent wish in his life.

Terror will continue even if you give 100% of your homeland to the Arabs.

66. The worlds Jews will be proud of Israel when
Zev ,   Israel   (01.10.13)
Israeli's are proud of themselves and are willing to stand up for their rights.
67. PR WAR
Get Real ,   UK   (01.10.13)
Israeli politicians need to show the world a more united policy in regard to their efforts to secure a just and lasting peace with the Palestinians, and to show what those efforts are. Otherwise the PR war is lost.
68. Not sure terror ever stopped
Jacob E ,   Holon, Israel   (01.10.13)
We just got better at preventing it.

Those are Rabin's words not mine.
70. The Loser
abe4u ,   Migdal HaEmek Israel   (01.10.13)
Peres is trying his best to prop up the Leftist parties before the election, and the more the loser talks the more we see how desperate the Left is. Peres had his spotlight when he tried to have a New Mid East -- and he failed miserably. He was the one who brought the terror attacks upon us, and luckily he lost the elections to Bibi after Rabin's very suspicious assasination, and the terror attacks were consideably reduced. Now he has the audacity to criticise our elected government who has done a pretty good job - just take a look at our neighbours, and also Europe and the USA for that matter, Israel with all its problems is truely a shining light to the other nations who are facing bankruptcy, unemployment and civil wars. Peres should be praising the government for its achievments -- and not blaming them for all the worlds problems.

Fair manner !!!!!!!. Olmert & Ehud Barak gave an offer to the Palestinians over 90% and they refused. Few days ago the so called moderate arab Mr Abbassi have said that the Mufti is hero and he admire him ? Admiring Mufti to kill the Jews !!!!! Secondly Abbassi wants all of Israel from the sea to the river nothing less. Arabs have hatred deep inside their blood not because of Israel

The PM is elected in charge of policy making like in any other country, he puts together coalitions and basically runs runs the country. The President is supposed to be like the Queen of England and he is not elected he is appointed by the Knesset. He is supposed to stay out of politics, his one real political duty is deciding who should run the country after an election based on who has the best chance of forming a coalition. Last time round Kadima had the largest number of seats but Bibi was considered to have best chance to form a coalition so he was appointed PM rather than Livni. This time round Peres keeps overstepping the mark and getting political because he wants the left to win the election so he is trying to damage Bibi's image. The man cant seem to accept the fact he is president now and not PM so he has to keep out of politics.

So what do you suggest as an alternative ? Just war and keep on fighting forever or have a peaceful coexistence. What is your preference Sir ?? Please suggest something concrete and practical short of ugly war

In 1996 Mr. Peres was Prime Minister and Amnon Lipkin Shachak was IDF Chief – of – staff when IDF bombed Qana Village in South Lebanon. 28 civilians were killed, of which 16 were children. Here is a segment from Wikapedia: “Prime Minister Shimon Peres said, "We did not know that several hundred people were concentrated in that camp. It came to us as a bitter surprise."[12] Following the attack, Lt.-Gen. Amnon Shahak, Israel's chief of staff, at a press conference in Tel Aviv on April 18 defended the shelling: "I don't see any mistake in judgment… We fought Hezbollah there [in Qana], and when they fire on us, we will fire at them to defend ourselves… I don't know any other rules of the game, either for the army or for civilians…".[13] Mr. Peres was Prime Minister. Let us imagine the reaction in the anti Zionist world if then President Ezer Weizman would have granted an interview to Manchester Guardian and articulated an opinion that Misters Peres and Lipkin-Shachak were too loose with the cannon when it is aimed at innocent Moslems and Christians. What if he then added that for years he felt that Israel’s responses to homicidal attacks should be to turn the other cheek and thereby earn the respect, friendship and support of the free world and win the hearts of Palestinian freedom fighters. And here in Israel what would have been the reaction of non Sarid, Aloni and Beilin members of Knesset? It is plausible that the aforementioned trio would have proposed presidency for life plus 20 years after death for President Weizman. On the other hand, I vividly recall that Mr. Binyamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister Peres’ most formidable opponent for the office of Prime Minister, publicly told Mr.Peres and the nation that tragic, regrettable mistakes occur in war and that Mr.Peres must not soften his war against terror. The nation is behind you, Shimon. Do not retreat. Mr Netanyahu was elected in that 1996 election. Many said that Mr. Peres endorsed the hostilities against Hizballa in order to increase his chances of winning those 1996 elections. Those who say that President Peres is suffering from Alzheimer’s syndrome are granting the President a much undeserved defense. Mr. Shimon Peres is using demagoguery to find favor in the eyes and hearts of the many antagonists to the Zionist cause. These antagonists include the wealthiest, most influential and strongest powers in the press, diplomatic-political world and commercial industrial world. He knows the benefits of jeopardizing Israel or at least bashing protagonists of strong, safe and secure Israel: awards from Washington and Norway. Our late matered prime minister, Yitzchak Rabin said it for us for all times and all places: Peres is a tireless underminer, subverter (“chatran bilti nil’eh”).

Jennie ,   Israel/Us   (01.11.13)
FYI, the difference is, that Israel is and always was fighting defensive wars and battles against terror and offensive wars, waged on the Jewish State... When the enemy attacks your most vulnerable citizens, when your enemy refuses to negotiate peace and committ endless acts of war, what other choice do we have, sid ? Do you have another "practical solution" ? Stopping the enemy is the most "concrete" and only way to defend our Nation... It is also our sacred Right and Duty to defend our land as well ! How can you find a practical or peaceful solution for 2 people, when only one of them wants it, Sid... It takes 2 to, even to tango...
78. Jennie # 77
sid ,   Israel   (01.11.13)
Jennie: Peace can only be achieved through negotiations between "enemies" and not by shear power. Using war and might is like a surgeon using a shovel for brain surgery . Come on Jennie . War is an old fashion rusty tool that decent human being detest . War may solve problems momentarily while creating other type of problems . Those who who do not believe that may need brain surgery .

Jennie ,   Israel/US   (01.11.13)
You have no right to preach Israelis about negotiations, sid, or whoever you are... "Using war and might" ? Thanks to Our Might, We have our little Homeland... We are too patient in reply to acts of war on our innocent civilians especially children, by frequent kassams and brutal terror attacks, in our towns, homes and schools, settlements... If you were Israeli, you would acknowledge, that It is not Israel, who doesn't want to negotiate with the palis, but the other way around...Read some history and facts about who runs the "show" in Gaza and what their plans are for Israel, because they are very honest about want they want to do to us... Judging by your reply, I already know who you are...
80. To jennie # 79
sid ,   Israel/USA   (01.11.13)
I preach peace because I worry about my loved ones in Israel and elsewhere . Nothing wrong with that , right Jennie . We all should join hands for that noble goal .Do you have a problem with that ?
81. Maximum Concessions
Zechariah   (01.14.13)
What are Israels maximum concessions that the Palestinians can accept and Israel can survive with.Let's say the area of the June 4 borders with a land swap that allows settlements to stay as a step one interim and nebulous status for Jerusalem .Best is a confederation with Jordan's Moderate Leadership Moderate for now.Demilitirized and the Jordan valley is secured as is Lod airport by Strongly Reliable Forces .This Lasts a few years no jihadi no Fatah Ba'ath.thats the Best Deal for now.No shooting guns with live ammo into the air just Blanks Blanks .
82. arguing with Shimon Peres
Jan Thijssen ,   Arnhem Netherlands   (01.25.13)
Maybe not Netanyahu, but I argue with the President. However polite and hospitallyan Arab seems, he does have a knife behind his back. and according to his nature will use that knife because he can.The threat of terror does not make me flinch but it accuses Arabs of criminality
83. Peres is right
Jan Thijssen ,   Arnhem Netherlands   (01.25.13)
Palestinians cannot escape Jihad against Israel. Consequently Israel must allow them to flee voluntarily. not coerced.
