31. #23. American POV: our feeling is mutual
Tom W ,   USA   (01.19.13)
During our fateful hours in '48 when the British Sir John Glubb Arab legion wanted to finish off the nascent Israel the U.S. - Truman - ordered arms embargo against Israel. American Jewry did nothing like they do now to help us: neither then nor now. It was Stalin who provided arms via the Czech to win our war. We're perfectly aware of the of the "goods" we can expect from the Soros-Hussein's America. We harbor no illusions about you friendship.
32. Diplomacy
Joseph ,   London England   (01.19.13)
Well said. Although I support Bibi, I recognise the need for diplomacy in foreign relations. I hope Bibi gets another term in office, but I also hope he wakes up. It's by the grace of G-d that Israel's closest ally is the world's only superpower, but it's up to Israel to nurture that special relationahip.
33. Reply to number 3
Danny ,   London England   (01.19.13)
Obama is not alone. Look at which countries voted against the creation of a Pal state. How many members of the Security Council voted against? Just one. The USA.
34. Impeachment on the horizon
ASTRONAUT ,   ME, USA   (01.19.13)
"This is the president of the United States?" Verily, Alon, he who "occupies" the chair in the Oval Office has isolated not only Israel, but a huge American constituency calling for his Impeachment; a conservative, patriotic majority. Keep abreast of American affairs before you bend at the knee to this "president."
35. Coming from Alon, this is strong stuff
StevieT ,   USA   (01.19.13)
Do not dismiss this lightly, your choice is near, exercise it well.
36. what?
Daniel   (01.19.13)
Devorah, you are talking sheer hallucinatory nonsense. You should - have to be - profoundly ashamed!
37. Obama will not be impeached
Bob ,   NY   (01.19.13)
His approval level is at 51%... that of congress in the low teens. There is no anti Obama majority outside of old white men with guns.
38. O came from Rev Wright Stable.Does anyone expect him to love
Alan ,   SA   (01.19.13)
Israel? He would give anything for Israel to just disappear.Of course it would be great if others could do the job for him Why does Israeli Population as a whole NOT trust him?? He does not engender any confidence . Who told Abbas to stop negociations until Israel stopped settlements?? Not even Arafat saw settlements a a cause of stopping talks!
39. Obama
MONA ,   US   (01.20.13)
what a silly excuse, you make me laugh
40. #27. Virtually ALL Israel's suffering due to leftist lunacy.
Chaim ,   Israel   (01.20.13)
#27 Avramele. Let's talk facts instead of hyperbole. Oslo murdered and maimed tens of thousands of Jews. It was entirely a leftist abomination. Israel's retreats from South Lebanon and Gaza caused ALL our Lebanon and Gaza Wars. They brought tens of thousands of rockets on Israel. These lunatic retreats were also leftist abominations. We could go on and on in this vein. Virtually ALL Israel's suffering are direct results of lunatic leftist appeasement and retreats.
41. Agent of Islam
bruce110 ,   Denver, USA   (01.20.13)
Obo is an Islamic Agent and Communist. His goal is to destroy Israel and America!
42. 34/37 No Cause or Reason
Mark of Lewiston ,   USA   (01.20.13)
Issuing an executive order to remind people of what a law already says is hardly a reason for impeachment. Talking Congress into passing a law is again no reason. And to 34, being non-white is not sufficient reason even for the idiots in the US House. That covers Sean Hannity's reasons - he has nothing but hate. Netanyahu is trying to make support for Israel into a partisan issue. But he is turning himself into an object of derision. His neocon allies are losing it.
43. Relationships
Karen Leslie ,   Chino, USA   (01.20.13)
As an American I suggest the response and position of Pres. Obama cannot be taken out of context of his overall presentation in the White House. Interpretation of his behavior and comments should not be so easily made.
44. Fragile alliance
jon ,   uk   (01.20.13)
although obama is the president of U S who has more experience for Israel Obama or Netanyahu and who knows better what is good for Israel security
45. We do NOT have a relationship with that caliphate kenyan
Zob ,   Ashqelon, Israel USA   (01.20.13)
There is no relationship with him at all. The enemy of Israel has many faces and his is the latest yet most vexing is the last decade. His flatteries and consession bribes are self serving to him. That isn't friendship in any capacity, its manipulation. He cannot even respect the prime minister of Israel.
46. #23 Manifest Destiny
ASTRONAUT ,   ME, USA   (01.20.13)
Worked fine for "arrogant, greedy" England, Spain, Holland, France as they "seized land inch by inch" from the indigenous peoples who lived on North and South America for thousands of years; slaughtering women and children in the name of MANIFEST DESTINY: From sea-to-shining-sea." Japan "seized" China "inch by inch" with the blessings of Teddy Roosevelt. And US "presidents" carp about a tiny country like Israel, surrounded by hostile neighbors? It's easy to spout high-minded ideals while living in the warm and cozy security of Los Estados Unidos.
47. Don't be simple minded
John ,   USA   (01.20.13)
Israel existence is at stake and we are con
48. Bravo #31
Old timer ,   USA   (01.20.13)
The only really positive US Israel action to help Israel was by President Nixon, blessed be his memory, He p[rovided weapons at the last moment during the Yom kippur war to turn the tide and from defeat to victory. all the other presidents since Israels creation have done only one thing: Presure Israel to cede territory and submit to the Arabs. In doing so they of course have offered inducements, such as weapons, and aid, as well as threats. Don't let the inducements deceive. They are only to create dependence, servitude. Ultimately you will be discarded like a worn out rag. Israel must look after its long term interest. that means holding on to territory, nuclear weapons, and strengthening its ties with the USSR, China and India and countries who are not beholden to the Arabs and America
49. The US does not need Israel
Truthseeker ,   USA   (01.20.13)
Israel needs the US far more than the US needs Israel. If you look at the vote in the UN both the US and Israel are almost isolated. US support for whatever Israel does has lost us friends and were it not for the powerful Jewish/Zionist Lobby it is likely that the "friendship" would not be what it is. As Israel moves farther and farther to the right they will begin to alienate more and more Americans who will start to ask why we continue to support a country that flouts international law, that gets over $3billion of our tax dollars every year and that puts us in danger. Israel is a liability to the US and unless they change their ways and end the damned occupation and theft of Palestinian lands they will become even more of a liability. Israel won't be able to count on the US forever. It won't be Obama who will wave "good-bye" but some future president who will put the welfare of the US first and foremost and not the welfare of Israel.
50. Take your 3 billion & ......
Avi W ,   Netanya, Il   (01.20.13)
Israel can live without America's 3 billion handout. True, it's a handy payment, although totally spent in the US on weapons, however, if it makes or breaks the relationship, we can do without. We can support ourselves with sales of high tech stuff of all sorts to make up for the shortfall. Don't kid yourselves...............
51. Knows more
Zechariah   (01.20.13)
Obama knows more .He wants to stop the settlements expanding and Iran assembling a nuclear weapon .He knows a Palestinian State is Going to be Hard to construct but would like a better life and more pride for the Arabs of Israel.Netanyahu ought form a centre left Coalition with the Haredim and chuck out lunatics.Sixty five mandates plus.Reasses in a year.
52. To # 11
(01.20.13)
I wonder if you will still hold that view 4 years from now. His legacy will show a Nuclear Iran, U.S. foreign policy in shambles, U.S military in decline and U.S. financial dominance no more.
53. Build Bibi Build
SD Charger ,   San Diego   (01.20.13)
The bond between us will never be broken. People get upset when Bibi stands tall and says the land belongs to Israel. So what? Not even the POTUS can change that. This article is full of half-truths. More people support Israel in the US then of those who don't.
54. #24 ed - great, except for one line
solomon ,   bklyn   (01.20.13)
"Mr. Obama was elected by people who care deeply about Israel, but share the view that the current govt is running Israel into an abyss." This is your own opinion and you want to paint everyone else with it. Jews with various opinions voted for Obama. Many support Israel and the current government, but considered domestic issues more important (some very important ones, if you take the time to remember). The election was more about domestic issues than anything else. Sorry to burst your bubble.
55. Allon Pinkas hates Netanyahu
Chaim ,   New York, NY   (01.20.13)
People need to know that Allon Pikas wanted to be the Israeli Ambassador to the UN and Netanyauh would not agree.
56. GOOD ARTICLE, SPOT-ON CORRECT!
Rafi ,   US   (01.20.13)
57. #49 Truthseeker
DavidR ,   USA   (01.20.13)
It is painfully obvious from your talkback that you are not finding what you seek. There is no truth in your words. You are a fool. Israel is the greatest asset the world has but it is only the ones who recognize it and bless Israel that will be blessed as a result. Those working to divide Yerushalayim and Eretz Israel are under judgment and it grows worse as the days go by. Soon there will no longer be a US. The so called president that you worship has already stolen most of your freedom and shreaded the constitution so essentially, the US as we know it is already gone. Wake up!
58. Thoughtful thinking of some ,...
split ,   US   (01.21.13)
... but it won't fly simply because of your leaders and majority that vote for them arrogance and short memory ,... "Israel, despite what it believes, is not a "strategic asset" of the US, just as it is not a "burden" – as it is often described by its critics" Agree with the first assessment and strongly disagree with the other - Anyone who have read O. B. Laden's 9/11 speech transcript knows that's not the case.
59. Stand Tall Bibi
A Yid ,   Jerusalem   (01.21.13)
Israel is neither a colony nor a protectorate of the United States. Remember, we are a four thousand year old civilization, and we waited 2000 years to reestablish Israel. Obama's four year term will pass in the blink of an eye. Don't concede anything to him. Just wait him out.
60. To: No. 49
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (01.21.13)
Oh, really? Are you sure about that? Where would the U.S. have been were it not for Israel having destroyed the Osirac reactor in Baghdad? You'd have had quite a different Gulf War, don't you think? Israel also destroyed the North Korean-built reactor in Syria. Wow! As if it weren't enough that Israel warned the United States that Saddam Hussein sent all his weapons of mass destruction across the border into Syria. Trust me -- Israel is not the target. Both Assad and the rebels in Syria know exactly what will happen if Israel were targeted. Basically, Syria will cease to exist. But the United States -- oh, you better believe you're a target. All those Americans at all those NATO bases in Turkey. The terrorists are not afraid of the United States. They are terrified of Israel. They know what Israel can do, and what the United States won't do. Israel has pulled the United States' chestnuts out of the coals in any number of countries. Whatever on earth will you do should we decide you are no longer worth the effort? Who's going to come to your rescue? France? Did a great job in Algeria, didn't they? Has it occurred to your dim brain that Israel is growing tired of saving you? We warned you about Libya, and you paid no attention. We warned you about Yemen, and you got your asses kicked there. We told you about Abbottabad, without which, you'd still be looking for bin Laden. Without us -- you'd be in worse shape than you already are. Get a grip. We don't really care about your fabled U.N. veto. We can do quite nicely without it, and without you. The reverse is not the case. You won't be able to count on us forever. We've grown quite tired of you.
