Pastrami, coleslaw, Swiss cheese and Russian dressing, technically it may not be kosher but it's as Jewish as it could possibly be! Oh hell, now I'm hungry.....

First of all, anyone familiar with "Jewish food" knows you DO NOT put cheese on a meat sandwich & still call it "Jewish". Second, the name of the restaurant is Langer's DELLY? Every self-respecting Jew (except in LA) knows that it's spelled D-E-L-I. Now I know why some 50 years ago my husband's Army buddy from LA showed up at our Brooklyn apartment and thought he was in heaven.

You are spot on about Montreal!!! Schwartz's smoked meat remains the best anywhere in the world, even today. It all began at Montreal's "Ben's" in the mid 20's and that's the bottom line. And who spells "DELI" DELLY? Imbeciles and imposters.

ok. Lesters on Bernard in Qutremont is still ok. Problem is Jews are no longer in the industry save for Lesters. I am not going to speak about the kosher variety as its basically tinif. Sad but true.

As a New Yorker born and bred, it's a matter of faith that the Hudson River is the western limit of civilization. That means there can't possibly be a real Jewish Deli west of the river. The fact that their sign calls it a "Delly" proves it, in my mind. You'll NEVER find a pastrami sandwich with cheese in a New York Kosher Deli. What you will get is at least a quarter-pound of hot pastrami on real Jewish rye, baked in a gas-fired oven with hot mustard and a dill or half-sour pickle on the side. Any meat restaurant on the Lower East Side will have this as one of the mainstays on its menu and each one has a slightly different flavor, due to the different spices and seasonings. You can have you California "Delly", I'll stick to my New York Delis, thanks.
