Between them Lapid, Labor, Livni and Meretz and Kadima the left have 50 seats and they can all work together without any trouble Likud, Habayit Hayehudi without the religious can get 44 although that could be taken up to 64 with Shas alone and 72 if he also had UTJ Even though Bibi can make a rightist coalition of 64 with Shas if the left wanted to make a play for it all they need and were willing to let Shas join them then would be able to get the minimum 61. As largest of the leftist parties it would mean Lapid would be PM in a leftist coalition if he was willing to bring Shas into his coalition where they would only be small players. He would hate doing it but if the prize was the potential to be the next PM I am sure he would be willing. Bibi can form a right wing coalition that included both Bennet & Lapid but I think he still wants the religious to strengthen his power base so Lapid may have to work with the religious anyway. So if Peres came to both Lapid and Bibi and said can either of you form a coalition Lapid might try cut a deal especially because he knows he would be Peres proffered choice for PM anyway. Its probably unlike this but he will certainly use it as a tool to try blackmail Bibi insist on at the very least deputy PM so the fun and games isn't over yet and we could still see a leftist government and knowing how unpredictable this election has been so far who knows?

We can all speculate, but the best solution is to make a coalition of Likud-Beitanu, Yesh Atid, Habayit Hayehudi Hatnuah (if Livni is not selfish again), Shas, UTJ, and Kadima. Labor, Meretz and Arab parties can go into opposition. Shas, UTJ, Livni should swallow pride for the betterment of Israel. Shas, UTJ must accept that Haredim must serve, Livni must accept Bibi is PM, Har Habayit must accept that Israel is officially locked into a two state solution or will face isolation, but also understand that Israel's enemies will never accept Jerusalem not being divided and the Settlements remaining, so OSLO is still defunct. Every Israeli knows this, but we must keep on offering peace even if every Israeli knows that our enemies do not want it. We need unity now more than ever.
