Israel has no choice to make compromises. The Haredim don't realize that the more participation the Haredim have in Israeli society the better the life will be for them. Learning math and secular subjects will make them smarter, the army will make them more well rounded and better suited to obtain jobs which will make more money for their families. There is too much poverty among the Haredim and those that work can help those who study.
They don't see it now, but these changes will make studying Torah even better.
