32. This is ridiculous
Alex   (02.10.13)
I thought Yesh Atid was a decent party, but if this view is shared by most members they're not better than the leftist extremist/Arabs parties. Pathethic.

Alex   (02.10.13)
Hatikvah is a core anthem of Israel and its Zionist spirit. If you don't like it move to "multicultural" Europe and enjoy abonding your heritage and culture so that you don't offend anyone...
34. Eli Yishai seems somewhat confused
Haim ,   TA   (02.10.13)
His Royal hollliness is under the disolution that Israel is a state run according to jewish law. Jewish character according to Eli Yishai and his bunch of religious criminals. There are secular people and yes dare i say it arabs who are classed as Israeli, Eli Yishai is a nothing but a rascist biggot who should keep his so called morality to himself,. Hasnt he got some 5 year old children to deport or something .
35. why Israel?
dolma ,   croatia   (02.10.13)
let's change the name of the country as well, so everyone can "feel" at home. How about "Republic of Kumbaya"?
36. This is a Jewish State
Keren IL-BR   (02.10.13)
I cannot believe they now want to change the words of our anthem. Will the USA change their lyrics to please the Hispanic community? Will France change La Marseillese to please the Arabs? O Jee... onde vamos parar?
37. There is no end to to the Diaspora mentality
JJJ   (02.10.13)
There is no end to to the Diaspora mentality, this women exhibit a clear case. Is there any place in the Arab universe considerations to other religions and in particular to Jews. If Israel is self declaring itself as a jewish state it must state so clearly, on the other side it must protect all equal rights to all citizens that are citizens of this country. As far as some of the arabs in Israel they receive all benefits of the democratic system in Israel while working hard trying to destroy the state of Israel, and I must say with enthusiastic help from few Jews
38. #28 that is up to you
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.10.13)
If you move here - and a vast majority of the population is Jewish, there if you want it to be your land - it is up to you to accept it the way it is or legally persuade the majority to change the rules. If neither of those work for you then no it would never be your land because you can't accept how democracy works. The choice is entirely yours and not ours
39. #3 see my explanation to your dilemma
JJJ   (02.10.13)
I am glad there are few hundreds like you, and millions that think you are nuts, and you are racist too?
40. Israel is the Jewish State, not some other state
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.10.13)
if the muslims do not want to sing, listen to hatikva, they are not obliged to do so. hatikva is not only our national anthem, but the expression of three thousand years of jewish existence and hope.
41. If no one is ready to change the lyrics
Gregg ,   Umbria Italy   (02.10.13)
The Israeli anthem is clearly aimed for the Jewish population. If no one is ready to change the words so the anthem would concern to all Israelis so nobody can expect non Jews to stay during a play
42. Is this what I voted for?
Ben ,   Israel   (02.10.13)
I did not vote for Yesh Atid so that you can change the national anthem. I don't recall the Druze population complaining about the song. The reason why the Arab MK walked out is because they want to show they are not supporters of even the idea if a Jewish State. This type of rhetoric shows the naiveté of you or your party and you better learn how irresponsible comments like yours reflects upon Yesh Atid and Yair Lapid. Your job is not to change the Jewish Nature of the State, it is to get the Haridim in the army and/or workforce!! Get back to work.

Vlad   (02.10.13)
Israel is Jewish like Ireland is Irish or Italy is Italian or Japan is Japanese. It is a nation-state with a minority, and if the minority doesn't like it, they can leave.
44. Lapid thinks he runs the show & Liberman will be dissapointe
zionist forever   (02.10.13)
The Lapid party is very much an anti religion party now though it seems they are going beyond religion and are even trying to remove any traces of jewishness from the country as a whole by trying to change the anthem get rid of the word jew. Today we remove the word Jew from the anthem so all citizens will be included. What about tomorrow do we change the flag as well so that is more representative, maybe get rid of the star have just 2 blue stripe. What next, do we change the country from being a jewish state to one where religion is something that takes place behind closed doors. Make it more representative. As long as we have coalition government no half hearted attempt at electoral reform will ever work. In a coalition system the real power is in the hands of the little single issue parties not the PM and so they will never support electoral reform which will put them out of jobs. Sadly I think in 2048 we will still be using the same dysfunctional system we have now whilst the arabs will have real democracy. The closest we can hope for when it comes to electoral reform is raising the threshold from 2% - 3% which won't change a thing.
45. Maybe America should remove "land of the free" from anthem..
Jake ,   USA   (02.10.13)
...so as not to offend Al Qaeda. Yesh Atid is a fleeting party.
46. # 15 Istvan.The origin of the Hatikva

melody is Sefardy, going back 600 years, the song is about the coming rain and dew, please go to, You Tube, first part of the history of Hatikva,by Astrid Belzen, very interesting.

zionis forever   (02.10.13)
As your so concerned about the fact that 1-4 are not jewish how do you justify calling the country a Jewish state? how do you justify making its national holidays and working week jewish one? Shouldn't that be taken into account? What about the countries name, Israel is Jewish represents the sons of Jacob. Not a name that represents non Jews. Why is Hebrew the national language if no other country in the world does? Another one of those jewish things How can we justify the law of return if 1-4 citizens are not jewish? A law that allows Jews from anywhere in the world to emigrate at states expense and get a bonus package of tax breaks and money but non jews don't qualify... is that fair? Once you start down the path to change it starts with little things then we say if we removed one little thing why not another. Then we say if we are willing to remove those things then no harm in removing these much bigger ones until eventually we reach a point where we are so open to change that there is nothing left to change and the country has no identity.
50. Israel wouldn't be a tiny bit less Jewish!!!
Noa   (02.10.13)
The wording of the anthem doesn't make our state more or less Jewish. I would even say that trying to win the non-Jewish minorities over to full support of the state is a very Jewish thing to do.
51. Arabs and the Hatikvah,The Arabs
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.10.13)
should sing the Hatikvah even louder than the Jews, when the Arabs in Israel look around and see what's happening in the Arab world ,they realise how thankfull they have to be to the Jews, for establishing Israel,no Arab in his right mind would change places with any Arab outside Israel, including rich Saudi Arabia,it's the Arab politicians and the Mullahs who incite against Israel.
52. Kol HaKavod, Eli Yishai

53. Hatiqvah is not only the anthem of the State of Israel, but
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (02.10.13)
that of the Jewish people, wherever its members may reside. And, since the state of Israel is the nation-state of a whole people, the anthem that happens to be of both ought to remain as such. The fact that non-Jews, i.e. Arabs, reside in our country doesn't change the fact that Israel is strictly the nation-state of the Jewish people and the symbols of Israel are also the symbols of the Jewish people.

Mike Carmel ,   Riahon le Zion   (02.10.13)
Your "logic" is upside down. Israel is Israeli. If Israel is Jewish then Italy and Ireland are Catholic. You mix up nationalities and religions.
55. Anothe Sacred Cow
EM ,   Ra'anana   (02.10.13)
It never fails to amaze how people who want understanding and empathy...are incapable giving it to another. Why is it so difficult to understand that the words to Hatikva do not represent non Jews living in Israel. COME ON PEOPLE...we have enough sacred cows here. Let's leave the song out of it. If we want the non-Jews to be proud of living in the Jewish State of Israel...let's just add a verse to the anthem which recognizes their commitment as well.
56. Ruth Calderon
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.10.13)
she is just another socialist globalist new age guru. she wants to turn judaism into a socialist utopian creed. she rejects all that the jewish state is based on, including the kibbutzim, the pioneering spirit. she might as well go and live in san francisco. she caters to the tel aviv elite and wants power.
57. To 46, 48.
Istvan ,   BUDAPEST HUNGARY   (02.11.13)
Hopefully you are right and the Hatikva is a sephardic music. But then Smetana must be suied for using the music in the "VLTAVA". There is a forgotten russian jewish componist Isac Dunayevsky, whoose songs are perfects for israeli national songs.
58. # 57 Istvan.The text and the melody of
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (02.12.13)
Hatikvah are beautiful, and is loved by all Jews, why change the anthem ?.Smetana isn't the only one who borrowed or confiscated music from others,so did the great Ludvig van Beethoven, one of his compositions is exactly a copy of Mozart's 25th symphony.
