1. God bless Lapid
Mark Wiseman ,   Cleveland USA   (02.11.13)
The success of his mission will benefit all. Haredim are trapped in the stone ages and their leaders are incapable of making the needed changes. All citizens will contribute, or else. If many need to be jailed at the beginning, so what? Lawbreaker belong in jail.
2. Wow!
Joe ,   Israel-USA   (02.11.13)
I read the Orthodox reaction to Lapid's speech and I'm speechless! "If you want to enlist them (haredim) to non-haredi units, I tell you – these yeshiva students will draw your children into ultra-Orthodox practices; you will not recognize them when they return from service.".. and "Do you truly believe one can force 100,000 yeshuva students to enlist? How would we have enough space in prison for them if we don't have enough space for young couples? It would cost the state much more if they are jailed." There people are a serious threat to Israel existence. They need to be drafted immediately, cut off from all state funds, and those who can be deported, sent to Brooklyn or some island somewhere. There are a greater threat to the Jewish state than almost all outside forces.
3. I may not support lapid on everything
Meir   (02.11.13)
but he is absoloutely right about the haredim. either enlist and contribute to israeli society or get the hell out! same goes for israeli arabs.
4. An absolute imbecile..this is not a leader he is a bozo
Al   (02.11.13)
To think that Netanyahu has to cowtoe to this Obama stoolie tells alot about the absolute stupidiness of the Israel votor.
5. 1 is talking about unity, the says jail before sharing the l
Jonathan   (02.11.13)
The response of Menachem Eliezer Moses is exactly why we have to force everybody to serve in the army. Enough.
6. Civil War
Bill Stein ,   USA   (02.11.13)
The wont be a Civil War over Heridim but there could be Civil War over concessions to the PA in my opinion if done.
7. civil war?
Nick ,   Den Haag Holland   (02.11.13)
Start a civil war with no military experience,is like making Gefilte fish without Fish.
8. civil war
shalom ,   Jerusalem Israel   (02.11.13)
BTW the only place I saw mention of a civil war was here on ynet (http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-4340295,00.html) By Izhar Oplatka who I think talks for lapids guys :-)
9. His numbers are off.
i ,   jerusalem   (02.11.13)
10. Menachem Eliezer Moses
Jeff   (02.11.13)
"If you make the ultra-orthodox enlist, they might turn your kids RELIGIOUS... and you wouldn't want THAT, would you??" wow...
11. #2 Joe: well, said, couldn't have said it
Runner1983 ,   USA   (02.11.13)
better. They haredi culture is so different and doctrinaire. Their high growth rate threatens to become the dominant culture of Israel. As they say, demographics is destiny, and when the Haredim reach the point that they control the political agenda, Israel is doomed.
12. how is conscientious objection civil war?
Lemmings Hotline ,   sd usa   (02.11.13)
Sounds more like incitement to a civil war. I agree with 6. The civil war will be over more disengagements like exiling 100,000 jews into the PA.
13. Don't force everyone into the army
AY ,   USA   (02.11.13)
I am all for sharing equal burden, but does everyone here seriously want to see all the Haredi and Arab youth serving in the army? People who are either unwilling or have their loyalty elsewhere? (I'm actually talking about Haredim's primary loyalty to an imaginary being.) Why does everyone have to go to the army? Do Israelis really want a lot of unwilling soldiers? Why not mandate for those people some other form of national service instead? Is it so awful to require people to participate in community projects instead of forcing them to be reluctant soldiers? How good a soldier will a person like that be? Especially when their first loyalty is to an imaginary (in my view) being instead of to the state? Let them beautify parks, do bikkur cholim, help people who can not overcome some serious handicap. The question is will Shas and UTJ go even for something like this? I suspect they won't.
14. Lapid is grandstanding
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.11.13)
lapid has some legitimate ideas, but he is essntially a populist. his grandstanding is dangerous. he should stop screaming from the podium, and learn some quiet diplomacy. he should know that imitating obama is not good practice.
15. So much Hate
Dani ,   RBS, Israel   (02.11.13)
So much hate! if everyone agrees with Yair Lapid, how come you cant talk about things like unity, instead of nothing but hate speech?!?
16. Lapidor already delivers what he was elected to do
Daniel ,   na   (02.11.13)
He promised free bread and gladiator fights to the hoi polloi and gladiator fights he delivers. Never mind the bread, that was a bit of exaggeration to get elected.
17. Spreading FEAR is bb's governing style.
Big Mouth ,   On the face   (02.11.13)
18. Military precedence
Arnold ,   Canada   (02.11.13)
The USA military on at least two occasions put together an all black platoon. I hope I used the correct military term. This group was put together not at their request but as a way of getting them into the military without having the white Americans having to mingle with them. Tacky , tacky , tacky. But the IDF can do the same thing WITH the permission of the Haredim. The Haredim themselves do not want to mingle with the un-kosher Jews so why not put the Haredim into their own platoon. If they do not want to be on the front lines then let them be part of the logistics and supply line. This way everyone comes out a winner.
19. What about the 20% of population that do no service?
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (02.11.13)
The Arabs are not required to serve in the military nor do National Service. Why is this far larger number exempt? If we are going to be fair - Arabs must serve and the same with the leftist cafe commandos too.
20. Israel
john ,   toronto   (02.11.13)
The state of Israel if it wants Jewish support must allow Jewish worship to take place on the temple mount. Otherwise it is not worth to be part of the state. I hope the next PM starts by honouring God and Torah.
21. The Haredi's tactic of installing fear
David ,   Israel   (02.11.13)
Threatening with civil wars and even going as far to say that if ultra orthodox are drafted with secular, they won't recognize their secular children after. What a load of rubbish. I served in combat with Bnei Yeshiva volunteers and there was no influence from either upon the lifestyle choices. The religious could practice together and the secular could be secular together. Once in the field, you couldn't tell the difference between religious and non religious. The only reason why these religious leaders are so against it is because they see their money trees running out. Enough is enough, a little civil disruption will be forgotten as fast as Operation Pillar of Defence.
22. difference
john ,   toronto   (02.11.13)
What is the difference between state of Israel and Palestine. It is initiative if Israel is not willing or able to give right of worship to Jews, then Palestine also has the same opportunity. If they are able to give then Jews must think of joining Palestine. Torah will bring blessing for whichever side the Jews choose.
23. # 20 John ????
(02.11.13)
Thats a nice Jewish name.
24. # 21,,,Do you really think Pillars of Defence and Cast Lead
Edithann ,   USA   (02.12.13)
could ever be forgotten? Have Jews ever forgotten the myth of Israel ever belonging to Jews? You're either naive or stupid... TATA
25. #16:Spot on! That's how politics work in frustrated, divided
tom ,   tel aviv   (02.12.13)
societies. Lapid is dangerous in that he leads the unwashed, gullible masses further into the desert and one day he will leave them stranded there, waiting for the next Saviour! We may as well accept Jesus and be bloody done with it :-)
26. Lapid for PM
Haim ,   TA   (02.12.13)
27. #3 Yeah...
Alex   (02.12.13)
Great idea, give the Israeli Arabs free guns... Heck, I'm not sending my children to serve next to Arabs who hates them. I love Israel by all my heart, but if it comes to that point I'm heading to America. Universal draft will only work in combination with an oath of loyalty.
28. Reply to no.#24
Simone ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.12.13)
Israel belonging to the Jews is not a myth.
29. And the Arabs?
Lila ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.12.13)
Not one word from pretty boy Lapid on the millions of Israeli citizens who don't go to the Army, don't do National Service, hate the country, want to destroy the country and make one of their own, call for international boycotts against the country, mourn the establishment of the country - Lapid is just another hater of religious Jews. He could care less about equality. After teaching the "settlers" a lesson in Gush Katif, Lapid now wants to teach the haredim a lesson, eh?
30. Dump USA Go Regional
br ,   LA,USA   (02.13.13)
USA owe obligation and debt $87trillion per internet or talk radio. Hollywod is collecting guns and siezing property. Change your banking laws for transfer. ----- Genesis 17:18 18 And Abraham said unto God, “O that Ishmael might live before Thee!” Genesis 15:18 18 In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: 1 Kings 4:21 21 And Solomon reigned over all kingdoms from the river unto the land of the Philistines, and unto the border of Egypt: they brought presents, and served Solomon all the days of his life. Isaiah 19 23 In that day shall there be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian shall come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria, and the Egyptians shall serve with the Assyrians. 24 In that day shall Israel be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, even a blessing in the midst of the land: 25 Whom the Lord of hosts shall bless, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel mine inheritance. Galatians 3:29 29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
