So the real problem is that a bunch of Leftists use protectsia to get enormous salaries to give "low quality research and teaching" And now the Leftists proclaim victory because they managed to keep getting public money for their "low quality research and teaching".

Go to website isracampus.org.il and read it, even casually, and critically study. The website was set up specifically to counter the strong leftist (read; anti-Israeli) tendencies and influence in Israeli universities. It appears that, as in the USA, the (faux) liberal element has a very disproportionate realm of power in the various academic settings.
