1. What times the riot ?
Zionist forever ,   Israel   (02.18.13)
These people are quite simply discusting human beings, no doubt draft dodgers as well. Had they been drafted to the IDF and learnt some disipline im sure this discusting incident would not of occured
2. These two ultra-orthodox men are not
Runner1983 ,   USA   (02.18.13)
practicing Judaism, but something else. Their culture, which led them to commit these acts, will eventually become the dominate culture of Israel due to their high population growth rates and the resulting increase in their political power. Citizens of Israel, wake up before it is too late!
3. #1 No riot, just wear a Vendetta mask on Purim as
Israeili Jew ,   Israel   (02.18.13)

4. Happened to me before..
Avi ,   Belgium   (02.18.13)
a few years ago, when I was in Jerusalem and walking in the Haredi neighborhood of Geula and was verbally abused by one of those people for standing in the street. I was schocked and ever since I started to realise that the very ultra orthodox from Meah Shearim are simply aliens and people who have no dicipline and respect towards others...very sad
5. They are playing GD
B ,   USA   (02.18.13)
As Orthodox Jew I am sadden by all these events happening. There is only on GD. How dare they play GD! These people are acting like animals . Jew is Jew no matter how the person act. Beating and hold them hostage is form of Terrorism. I am glad these animals got caught.
6. To #1:
Simon says "No!"   (02.18.13)
1) "Would not of" is not even a grammatical structure. 2) The army is not a solution to anything - if it had been, our society (the majority of which has gone to the army) would not have looked the way it does today: divided, anger on the roads and streets, everyone is full of criticism of everybody else, intolerance toward the different.
7. Let's put things in perceptive
PaulD ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.18.13)
for those that want to follow Ynet's lead for some old fashioned religious Jew bashing. It's not the Haredim and other religiously committed, that make up the far greater majority of rapists, pedophilia, adulterers, and the promoters of other common forms of disrespect for woman.
8. #2 about 4.00 pm
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (02.18.13)
They have to pick up their welfare cheques first
9. Taliban Haredim practising Rabidolatry
NATAN ,   ISRAEL   (02.18.13)

10. They need rehabilitation to live within society

11. They represent Jews world-wide.

12. #2 Equality before the law
Mark ,   London, UK   (02.18.13)
Whatever sector of society people come from equality before the law is a pre-condition of a civilised society. rape, paedophilia, kidnapping, beating and threatening behaviour are crimes. To the best of my knowledge adultery is not. It makes not a job of difference whether you are haredi or not, criminal behaviour should not be overlooked either by neighbours or the state.
13. Was the state paying these men to study while they scouted
Jrebecca ,   modiin   (02.18.13)
their victims? If so they should be charged with fraud too. In that community it might be easier to prove.
14. beitar ilit is hardly the beach in tel aviv!
tsfatisha ,   tsfat   (02.18.13)
how come a) these guys weren't in yeshiva or kollel minding their own business b)unless they think everyone should be wearing burkahs i really don't know how they would find anyone who didn't fit the 'normal haredi dress code'.. it's a gated community after all and noone goes or lives there by accident...
15. #7: Aside from certain muslim cultures, what
Runner1983 ,   USA   (02.18.13)
cultures other than haredi have their members spit on little girls if they don't meet their subjective standards of modesty, remove images of women from advertisements, prohibit wives and mothers from eulogizing their husbands and fathers at funerals, force women to ride in the back of a bus, force them to walk on the opposite side of the street, etc, etc, etc? Shame on you and your aberrant culture for marginalizing and discriminating against women the way you do. Shame on you! If you feel that the Haredim get bashed, its because they deserve it.
16. #11: no they don't. Don't insult us.
Runner1983 ,   USA   (02.18.13)
17. terrorrists not in Israel
Hans ,   Netherlands   (02.18.13)
This is the behaviour of salafists, and other blinded extremists. Make them happy and transfer them to Gaza. It seems they have the same practice there. They will be very happy there, and Israel will be happy again.
18. #15 What are you talking about??
PaulD ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (02.18.13)
The point I made which obviously you missed, is that secular culture is abusive to women for the exact opposite reasons, which is, if you don't fit into a degraded level of immodesty, your worthless, for the simple reason there is a superficial level of respect for woman in secular culture. The degradation is so pervasive that woman end up abusing themselves, mentally and physically. And, as I said before it's not the Haradim who are to blame for sexiest abuse and violence against woman in society.
19. Haridim
benfivel ,   Jerusalem   (02.18.13)
They are not a religious movement. They are a cultural remnant. They are stealing my religion.
20. EDITOR!!!!! #11 made an anti Semitic comment

21. Totally agree, it's time for them to have a real education
Realist ,   The south   (02.18.13)
Instead of their blinkered reality in a very closed society. Felt ashamed of their behavior on a recent flight, it's hardly any wonder why the world is turning against us.
22. #18, to quote your post in #7:
Runner1983 ,   USA   (02.18.13)
" It's not the Haredim and other religiously committed, that make up the far greater majority of rapists, pedophilia, adulterers, and the promoters of other common forms of disrespect for woman." I don't have hard statistics, but anecdotally, in haredi communities around the world, Haredim commit more child sexual child abuse than non-haredi Jews, which is the right comparison group, not all people in general. What's even worse and unforgivable, haredi rabbis support the accused and tell victims and their parents not to report the abuse to the police, and when they do, the victim and parents are vilified, threatened and shunned by the haredi community. Don't believe me, just read the press from around the world. You call this Judaism? Give us all a break. So in answer to your question. That's what I am talking about. In this area, the haredi culture is shameful.
23. This is old news
Anonymous ,   Betar Ilit   (02.20.13)
What is new is that the police decided to stop drinking coffee and finally enforce the law. The same thing is going on in maale amos, another charedi yishuv and moetzet Gush Etzion is aware and does nothing.
