1. you can have a tatoo and still be buried in Jewish Cemetary
naftules ,   jerusalem   (02.19.13)
jeeze even a jewish paper like this one thinks that old story bubbie told you is true, its a lie to stop you from getting a tat. but holds not halakic truth whatsoever.
2. #1 Thank You I Never Knew That And
(02.19.13)
I'm Glad because as former military I got (2) Tats in the service and was afraid Of That Old Wivestale. Shalom P.S. My Bubbie did say that I was Young Dumb and full of piss and vineger.

It seems tons of people believe it. I think it is the biggest misconception in Judaism. I think if you asked the average frum Jew he would tell you that its true. I remember guys talking about it in Yesiva never made any sense.
4. Curb your enthusiasm
Shimon ,   Poleg   (02.19.13)
Larry David has a whole episode devoted to this myth. It's very funny!!! BTW the Palestinian chicken restaurant episode is also incredible
5. Holocaust Survivors
Robert Haymond ,   Tekoa, Israel   (02.19.13)
Think of it: All imprisoned Holocaust survivors had tattoos on their forearms...actually, numbers. One elderly man whom I knew long ago, when asked "What's that?" remarked: "A little memento from Europe." All of the survivors, including their "mementos", had the right to be buried in a Jewish cemetery, the resting field of their own forefathers. Whenever the subject of tattoos is raised, that's where my mind goes.
6. tatoos
mike ,   ny usa   (02.19.13)
It is however clearly and explicitly forbidden by the torah. The cemetery myth has been greatly aided by at least two very popular tv comedies written and acted in by jews, curb your enthusiasm and big bang theory.
7. With Drew's past in mind ...
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (02.19.13)
... to this day I can hardly watch that final departure scene in E.T. where the alien tells the young girl played by Barrymore, "Beeeee goooood." She responds meekly, "I will." And I think, "Well, you weren't." I'm glad to see she got her life together. While it's true one *can* be buried in a Jewish cemetery, tatoos are still frowned upon and most Jewish guys hate them. Still, my oldest nephew insisted on getting one of his nipples pierced. Ugh!
8. tattooed jew
joshvdb ,   Beit shemesh   (02.19.13)
As a tattoed Jew myself, please could the writter in the paper tell me where it's wriiten about not being buried. maybe because its not!! the only thing it say is not to get tattoos. doesn't say anthing about if you already have them.

#7 That is a huge sweeping statement that 'most Jewish guys hate them'... oy vey!
10. Scriptures forbids marking or cutting the body like the

heathen do. It is a good think for her to remove the tatoos. The more one does to please HaShem, the better.
11. She'll get over it once she knows what it really means...
Edithann ,   USA   (02.20.13)
She's not a hate-filled person...so it will be hard for her to become a real Jew...Once the bloom of new motherhood wears off, she'll come to her senses... TATA
12. the real problem with tatoos is the same,,,
Bluegrass Picker ,   Afula   (02.20.13)
...problem as body piercings: their ancient meanings are no longer respected. I actually sailed around the world in one voyage; that means I am allowed to have an earing in one ear. But wait; every spoiled rich 11-year old kid in San Francisco wants to spend daddy's money to get one down at the mall; AND DADDY ALLOWS IT. Gresham's law at work. Welcome to American Jewry. PS: second earing requires surviving the sinking of a ship.
13. Tattoos remain in the grave when the person is resurrected.
Rivkah   (02.20.13)
14. The only tattooed person in God's Kingdom will be
Rivkah   (02.20.13)
Yehoshua of Nazareth who has King of Kings and Lord of Lords tattooed on his thigh. The tattooes of all others remain in the grave at the resurrection of the body for eternal life with HaShem or eternal death. There are no tattoo parlors in HaShem's eternal Kingdom or in the Millenial Kingdom on Earth.
15. 5 Robert Haymond, Israel: The Holocaust survivors I knew
Rivkah   (02.20.13)
long ago would not have their prison camp tattoo on the arm removed. They wanted the world to remember what happened. Erasing the number and pretending they had not suffered was not something they were willing to do. They wanted to be buried with that number on their arm.
16. how does having/not having a tatoo make
fk   (02.20.13)
a person a good/better Jew? sometimes a tatoo or pierced ear is just that...and has nothing to do with one's faith

For an excellent example of a 'hate-filled person' please consult the nearest mirror or other reflective device.
18. #16...It doesen't but
Froike ,   NY NY   (02.20.13)
The Torah specifically forbids tatoos and piercings. As for #5, you took the words out of my mouth! I read a very touching story about a Russian B'aal Tshuvah who was covered with tatoos. He went to Mikvah on erev Yom Kippur where all the "Frum Yidden" were staring him like he had three eyes...and no one would immerse with him. A Rabbi came up to him and said, "My son, let's immerse together. I also have a tatoo." Of course, the Rabbi was referring to the tatoo he received as a youth in Auchwitz!
19. Hey Edithann #11...
Abie Dee ,   New York, US   (02.20.13)
Based on your theory, am i correct to assume that you yourself are Jewish ?
20. Drew Barrymore's "Conversion"
Cheryl ,   Chicago, IL   (02.25.13)
Her "conversion" to Judaism is not valid. She's doing it because her husband is Jewish and she is not doing it according to Orthodox Halacha.
