Israel, thanks to the huge fields of natural gas discovered off the coast of Haifa, has more natural gas than it knows what to do with. Of course, countries are lining up by the dozens to purchase Israel's natural gas ... but Egyptian natural gas is fairly irrelevant these days. Much more important is Egypt's willingness -- and ability -- to control the smuggling of arms and drugs along its border. Of course, if they are somewhat lackadaisical -- Israel is both willing and able.
The Egyptians need to start to police their border. If they cannot or will not, it will no longer be their border. It's really all that simple.
